Chapter 41 Lying

The aroma of food wafted from the kitchen.

Not long after, Xia Lian carefully placed two plates on the dining table.

"Is it done?" Wen Mo put down his phone and glanced at the plate with interest.

Inside was a large plate of fried rice, its color incredibly tempting. The soy sauce-colored rice, paired with large chunks of chicken and potatoes, looked absolutely delicious and made one's mouth water.

"Wow—not bad!" He smiled and gave a thumbs up.

? ˉ???ˉ?? )?

This must have been made with yesterday's rice and leftover braised chicken with potatoes; you can smell the aroma of this fried rice from several meters away.

"Thanks."

Xia Lian thanked her shyly and took out two spoons from the side. "Okay, eat it..." She looked a little uneasy, as if she was afraid that the taste wouldn't be good enough.

"Okay."

Wen Mo held the spoon, and without saying a word, scooped a spoonful of fried rice into the plate, then put it in his mouth, carefully savoring the taste.

The fried rice has a moderate texture and is not greasy. Each grain of rice is distinct and mixed with a rich aroma of oil and meat. With the addition of leftover rice, every grain of rice fully absorbs the flavor of chicken.

It's true that fried rice made with leftover rice is much more fragrant.

"Delicious!" Wen Mo's eyes lit up, especially since he was hungry and his appetite increased. "It tastes much better than the fried rice I make."

Seeing that Wen Mo was enjoying his meal, Xia Lian's previously anxious mood immediately relaxed, and she also started eating in small bites.

She used to eat like this all the time, using leftovers to make fried rice, and she was improving her cooking skills to some extent.

"Eat more, just a little more."

Wen Mo smiled and wiped his mouth. "I should be the one saying that to you." His appetite was much bigger than Xia Lian's.

A few minutes later, Xia Lian felt really uncomfortable from being so full, but there was still more than half a plate of fried rice left, so she could only look up at it longingly.

Wen Mo scratched his head, seemingly understanding what she meant.

"I'll eat the rest for you." He said, taking Xia Lian's portion of fried rice.

Suddenly, his mind went blank as if he remembered something. Wen Mo got up, took the delivery box from earlier, and placed it in her hand. "This is for you."

Xia Lian looked at the extra delivery box in her hand with a puzzled expression.

"This is……"

The delivery box was small, a square rectangular prism, and had some weight to it.

"Just open it and you'll see." Wen Mo smiled and took out a pair of scissors from the side to help open the package. Inside was a delicate white rectangular box.

Xia Lian was stunned. She subconsciously opened it, and inside lay a brand new cell phone.

"A cell phone...?" She hesitated, her eyes filled with confusion as she looked at Wen Mo.

"Here, have a hand with it and see how it feels?" Wen Mo said with a smile.

Actually, Wenmo wanted to buy her a cell phone after only a few days of her arrival. Otherwise, they couldn't even make a phone call when they were a little far apart. Moreover, the school cafeteria required payment by cell phone. He didn't know when it started, but cell phones have become an almost indispensable thing for a person.

After searching for a long time, I finally chose an Android phone with relatively good specs, but the logistics were really slow; it took quite a while just to ship it.

"I've already prepared the SIM card. I'll install it for you in a bit, and you can just use it directly." He helped her take out the charger and prepared to teach her how to use the phone.

It should have been a relatively happy thing.

However… Xia Lian’s face wasn’t as happy as he had imagined. Instead, it was more heavy and tense. He carefully put the phone back into the box without even turning it on.

“Wen Mo…” Xia Lian looked a little uneasy. She had never owned her own cell phone before, and even her mother used an old cell phone with a broken screen.

Her intuition told her that this thing was definitely not cheap.

"This...is too expensive..." She lowered her head, so she couldn't see Xia Lian's expression.

In just the past few days, she's spent money on clothes, tuition, and now a cell phone... The better her cousin treats her, the heavier the feeling in Xia Lian's heart becomes.

Staying at Wenmo's house was already a trouble enough for him, and then he bought so many things for her. The guilt she felt gradually became overwhelming.

Wen Mo's expression was calm, as if he had expected this scene to happen. He was silent for a moment, then pulled his chair forward a few steps and picked up the phone to examine it carefully for a while.

"Is this phone pretty?" he suddenly asked, causing Xia Lian to be slightly taken aback.

It is indeed very beautiful in appearance, with a white casing and a clean screen.

"Beautiful." Xia Lian answered truthfully without hesitation.

Wen Mo put down his phone and pushed the phone box forward a step. "When I give you a gift, what's your first thought?"

"..." Upon hearing this, Xia Lian lowered her eyes and carefully considered her words. Finally, under his gaze, Xia Lian slowly uttered a few words, "Very happy..."

Hearing this, Wen Mo raised the corners of his mouth and grinned, patting her on the back.

"Isn't that enough? As long as everyone's happy, I'm happy that you accepted it, and you're happy too. Why not do something that makes everyone happy?" He knew what Xia Lian was thinking; she just thought the gift was too valuable.

"But……"

"No buts. Just like we said when we first met, don't think that moving in will be a burden to me. Actually..."

Wenmo looked into her clear eyes, a blush rising on his cheeks, and he turned his face away somewhat shyly.

"Actually, I'm quite happy that you moved in..."
