Seeing Xia Lian slowly extend her hand, Wen Mo tugged at the corner of his mouth.
This girl has been a bit too active lately, always hugging and using her lap as a pillow, and now she wants to hold hands. She seems like a completely different person compared to when we first met.
"No."
"Why?" she asked, looking at him with some confusion.
Wen Mo didn't speak, but his gaze shifted to a young couple on the side of the road. The two seemed to be in the throes of new love, holding hands and chatting happily.
"Look, only couples like them can hold hands."
Following Wen Mo's gaze, Xia Lian observed carefully for a while, pursed her lips and remained silent, before finally turning her head back.
"But... Yin Tao and the others aren't a couple, yet they were holding hands..."
Wenmer paused for a moment, his expression awkward.
"They can hold hands because they have a good relationship... It depends on the people involved, that's all."
Wen Mo casually added a few words, but he never expected that Yin Tao and Ye Qingzhou, who seemed to be bickering, would actually hold hands in private. It was unbelievable.
"Are we...not on good terms?"
Xia Lian wasn't fooled by him. Instead, she seized on the key words and asked him a question, her innocent big eyes staring straight at him.
"this……"
Seeing that Wen Mo didn't speak, Xia Lian paused for a moment, then slowly lowered her eyes and withdrew her outstretched hand. "I understand..."
Seeing Xia Lian's dejected look, Wen Mo felt his guilt grow even heavier.
Honestly...
Taking a deep breath, Wen Mo quietly moved closer and, taking advantage of her inattention, gently grasped that warm and soft little hand.
"Eh...?"
When Xia Lian realized what was happening, her hand was already being quietly held by him. When she looked up, Wen Mo had already turned his face away.
"You're new to this place, and I was afraid you'd get lost, so I held your hand." He explained as if he were talking to himself. Although Wen Mo seemed very casual on the surface, the extra layer of sweat on his hand showed that this guy was anything but calm inside.
"We'll only hold your hand for a little while, then we'll let go once we get home."
Xia Lian squinted her eyes slightly. From her perspective, the dim streetlights revealed the blush that Wen Mo was trying to hide.
He turned his face away, not wanting Xia Lian to see his flushed cheeks.
He blushed so much just from holding hands; Wen Mo is really pathetic.
The two continued walking along the night road. Unlike Xia Lian, whose expression was calm, Wen Mo was filled with anxiety and unease.
The sweaty palms made him wonder if he was weak, since he started sweating profusely even though he hadn't done anything.
"Wenmo".
"Um?"
"Has our relationship improved?" Xia Lian asked, tilting her head.
"...It's gotten better, better than ever."
He hadn't expected Xia Lian to still be concerned about the previous question, which made Wen Mo regret not taking her hand earlier.
"oh."
Xia Lian responded indifferently, her face still showing the same cold expression, but judging from her lighter steps, the girl was quite happy.
The two changed their positions from front to back to side to side, and their arms occasionally touched. However, Xia Lian seemed completely unconcerned and even deliberately moved closer to him.
Wenmo swallowed hard, pretending not to notice, but secretly hoping to get home as soon as possible.
Wen Mo glanced at Xia Lian's expressionless face and sometimes even wondered if she was even nervous.
As night fell, the two walked hand in hand on their way home, each lost in their own thoughts. What should have been a journey of less than fifteen minutes felt like an eternity to Wenmo.
About ten minutes later, the two returned to the entrance of the residential area, and Wen Mo let go of her hand beforehand.
"Hmm...?" Xia Lian looked at him with some confusion.
Why did they let go before we even got to our doorstep?
Patting her head, Wenmo led her to a rest stop in the neighborhood and gestured for her to wait outside for a while.
"Wait a moment, I'm picking up a package."
With that, he turned and went into the post station to look for a package.
A moment later, Wen Mo came out with a small, square box wrapped in cardboard, so it was impossible to tell what was inside.
Xia Lian curiously peered over.
"I'll let you see as much as you want when we get back, there's no rush now." Wen Mo grinned, then continued to hold her hand.
This should have been bought a long time ago.
"well?"
Xia Lian blinked, looking somewhat confused.
The two remained silent the entire way until they reached their front door. Wen Mo skillfully took out his key, inserted it into the lock, and turned it. With a "click," the security door slowly opened.
The moment they stepped into the house, their nerves relaxed almost simultaneously.
"Home is still the most comfortable place..." He stretched, feeling sore and achy after sleeping all afternoon. His desk couldn't compare to his bed at home.
Seeing this, Xia Lian also blankly imitated him by stretching, and her T-shirt was gradually lifted up a little as she raised her arm, revealing the girl's slender waist.
"Did you catch my clumsiness? You even copied my stretching." Wen Mo smiled as he closed the door and gently placed the package on the dining table.
Once home, she relaxed completely, but her hunger intensified. Xia Lian touched her stomach and blinked.
She tugged at Wenmo's sleeve.
"What's wrong?"
I'm hungry...
Hearing this, Wenmo also felt a little hungry, as there was nothing in his stomach.
During the summer vacation, I didn't exercise for a long time and rarely went out. I didn't feel hungry at the end of the day, and it was common for me to skip lunch or dinner.
I only feel particularly hungry when I'm at school.
"I'll go cook, you sit and wait a bit... Huh?"
Before Wen Mo could finish speaking, Xia Lian tugged at his sleeve again, shook her head, and walked into the kitchen by herself. A few seconds later, she poked her little head out.
"There's still a lot of food left from yesterday."
Yesterday, Xia Lian wasn't in a good mood and didn't eat much, so a lot of food was left in the refrigerator.
Seeing that Wen Mo didn't react, she continued, "Can we have leftovers tonight? I'll cook."
After saying that, Wen Mo nodded thoughtfully. He didn't care about eating leftovers; they would be eaten sooner or later anyway. But this was the first time his cousin had cooked for him.
In the past, Wen Mo always insisted on cooking, and Xia Lian, being short, couldn't compete with him, so she had to let him take charge of the cooking.
Wen Mo was really tired today, but then she thought it wouldn't hurt to try her cooking.
"Sure." With that thought, he grinned and pushed the delivery box aside a bit. "I'm really looking forward to your cooking."
