She is often expressionless, never revealing what she’s thinking.
No matter what, the cautious cousin arrived at Wenmo’s abode.
These two ended up living together inexplicably.
<...The orange-yellow rays of the setting sun shone into the room; I woke up just before dusk.
Wen Mo slowly opened his eyes. He had been sleeping since noon and his head was a little sore. He opened his eyes and looked around at the things around him.
"How did I fall asleep too..."
Just as I was about to get up and stretch, a little foot wearing a sock kicked straight at my face.
"Ouch...!"
Unable to dodge in time, he was kicked in the chin, instantly clearing his dazed mind. He sat on the bed and recovered.
Wenmo grabbed the toe and placed it aside. The girl seemed to feel a little ticklish, and her whole body involuntarily trembled slightly.
"He can't even sleep peacefully; he can kick me even in his dreams." Wen Mo still felt a slight pain in his chin, not knowing how much force Xia Lian used in that kick.
I was playing on my phone while leaning against the headboard, and somehow I fell asleep. Luckily, we weren't sleeping in the same direction.
As I was pondering, I heard a faint sound in front of me.
Xia Lian also woke up, rubbing her sleepy eyes as she slowly sat up, still seemingly a little groggy.
"Are you awake?"
The girl didn't answer. The first thing she did when she saw Wen Mo after getting up was to instinctively lean forward and stretch out her hands.
"hug……"
“No, this isn’t home.” Wen Mo immediately dodged away.
Xia Lian was left alone on the bed, staring blankly at him, before she remembered that she was not in that house, but in her uncle and aunt's house.
"oh."
Xia Lian obediently got out of bed and took off the blanket.
Because I tend to move around a lot in my sleep, my dress got a little wrinkled, and my hairstyle, which I had styled in the morning, was all messed up.
"Come here." Wen Mo frowned slightly and beckoned to her.
Xia Lian was still a little dazed at this moment, and obediently walked up to Wen Mo.
He carefully helped her straighten her skirt and brushed her messy hair aside. Xia Lian had taken off the bow while sleeping, and Wen Mo helped her put it back on.
"Hmm...very good, perfect as ever."
Wen Mo smiled and led Xia Lian to the living room. Su Juan was sitting on the sofa watching videos. The sound of hot oil frying came from the kitchen, so Wen Yiquan was cooking himself this time.
"Mom, is Dad cooking in there?"
The two cousins sat next to Su Juan, while Wen Mo peeked into the kitchen again.
"Yes, he insisted that Xiaolian try his cooking. He even insisted on cooking for her earlier." Su Juan rolled her eyes at this point, then turned her gaze to Xia Lian and asked with a smile, "How was Xiaolian's rest?"
She noticed that Xia Lian looked sleepy when she delivered the watermelon earlier, while Wen Mo was still awake. However, Su Juan did not expect that Wen Mo would fall asleep later as well.
Wen Mo breathed a sigh of relief, thankfully his mother hadn't seen him.
"I slept very comfortably," Xia Lian replied earnestly.
"That's good, that's good."
Su Juan smiled and nodded, thankfully she had been tidying up that room.
While the group was chatting, Wen Yiquan called out from the kitchen, signaling Wen Mo to bring the dishes out.
"Okay, I'm coming."
Wen Mo put down his phone and took a few steps toward the kitchen. Xia Lian had already been led to the dining table by Su Juan, who had already served her rice.
After Wen Yiquan and his son brought out all the dishes, dinner officially began.
The atmosphere at the table was warmer than at lunchtime, perhaps because it was evening, or perhaps because the group had become more familiar with each other. Xia Lian no longer had the timid demeanor she had shown before.
Wen Mo said that the more she ate at this meal, the happier her uncle and aunt would be. Xia Lian remembered this and even ate half a bowl of rice after finishing one bowl, until she was really full before putting down her chopsticks.
"I'm full..."
She clutched her stomach and whispered, but unexpectedly, she was so full that she involuntarily burped, which made everyone at the table laugh.
"I have to cook it myself. Look how happy this girl is eating it," Wen Yiquan said with pride.
"Tch~ You still have to eat my cooking all the time." Su Juan nudged his arm with her elbow and rolled her eyes in displeasure.
Meanwhile, Wenmo tried to smooth things over, his smile never fading.
"Alright, alright, everything you made is delicious."
Mid-Autumn Festival, a festival of reunion, the atmosphere and taste of home are indispensable. Xia Lian pursed her lips. She thought she was just here to have a symbolic meal, but everyone really liked her. The fragrant food and the warm family were wonderful.
Xia Lian felt a little uneasy.
After dinner, the cousins didn't intend to stay overnight. Wen Mo and Xia Lian changed their shoes at the door and prepared to say goodbye.
"It's getting late, so we'll be going now," Wen Mo said. Xia Lian, who was beside him, waved her little hand in response.
"Goodbye, Uncle and Aunt."
Seeing the two preparing to leave, Su Juan quickly called out to them, seemingly still clutching something in her hand, and walked up to them.
"Take this, little girl," she said with a smile, stuffing the thing in her hand into Xia Lian's hand. Before Xia Lian could answer, she gently hugged Xia Lian.
Xia Lian seemed a little lost in her arms, but after a while, she subconsciously reached out and hugged her back.
A warmth gradually filled her heart, and it wasn't until they parted that she could see clearly what was in her hand—a stack of red banknotes.
Wen Mo glanced at it and roughly calculated that it should be two thousand.
"You can use it to buy food or clothes. If it's not enough, just ask your auntie for more. Got it?" Su Juan gently leaned down and patted her head, giving her a few words of advice.
