Chapter Twenty-Six: The Aftermath of Gantang

"Su Xun, do you know that the goddess of your class has a boyfriend?"

After dinner, Su Xun and Tang Shi planned to go back to their dorm to put on some more clothes. It was already December, and Tang Shi had gotten up late that morning. She was in a rush to get dressed and wash up, and forgot to put on the sweater she was wearing underneath. When she got to the classroom, she felt cold all over. So she pulled Su Xun along to go back to the dorm to get some clothes, and they chatted about gossip they had heard from somewhere along the way.

Gantang?

Didn't she get rejected last time? How did she manage to win him over so quickly?

"I don't know," he replied casually.

"You didn't even know about something this big?" Thinking of Su Xun's usual obsession with studying the classics, she understood. "Never mind, you probably don't care about these things."

"Is this a big deal? It's just two people dating, there's no need to be so surprised." Su Xun was initially very surprised when she found out that the teachers were so strict in investigating early relationships and that many people were not afraid of being caught and went against the grain. But after hearing about it more and more, she became numb to it. Later, when she heard that so-and-so was dating or that two people were caught by the teacher while secretly walking together, she stopped paying attention.

However, for Tang Shi, who usually enjoys digging up all sorts of gossip to get the latest news and is very interested in the love affairs at school, this is a very big deal.

"Gan Tang, she was rejected by so many people who pursued her before. Everyone secretly thought that the goddess already had a boyfriend. Unexpectedly, a boy from our class confessed to her last week, and it actually happened."

She definitely has someone she likes.

Su Xun silently replied in his heart.

etc!

"You mean that boy is from your class?" Su Xun sensed something was off.

"Yeah, that short guy sitting behind me, you really can't judge a book by its cover."

"Are you sure?" Su Xun had been to Tang Shi's class and had naturally seen the "shorty" she mentioned. The boy's name was Song Yuan. He wasn't actually short, but he often played basketball with other boys and appeared somewhat short among them. However, he was indeed quite good at basketball.

However, Song Yuan was clearly not the same person as the boy she had seen at the milk tea shop that day. She had seen Song Yuan before, but the boy who rejected Gan Tang that day looked very tall and seemed to be older than them.

So, does that mean Gan Tang immediately moved on after being rejected and welcomed the next guest into her life?

"Wow, that's impressive," Su Xun thought to herself, giving Gan Tang a mental thumbs up. She disliked many heroines in novels who cried and whined for ages after being rejected, only stopping when the male lead came to coax them.

In the classroom, Pei Ke had already finished lunch and was sitting in his seat reading a book.

Su Xun noticed from afar that the words on the book in Pei Ke's hand were a bit strange. Upon closer inspection, he discovered that it was actually a book written entirely in English.

"Why are you so late today?" Su Xun usually gets back to the classroom earlier, but this time he was even later than him. Pei Ke put down his book, turned around and asked.

"Oh, I went to the dorm today." Su Xun tidied up his desk. "Were you reading an English book?"

"It's 'Pride and Prejudice.' I read the translated version before, and I felt that this kind of work is better appreciated when read in its original form."

"That's amazing!"

Pei Ke felt a little embarrassed by the sudden praise.

"Have you noticed that you're particularly good at foreign languages? You always get close to full marks in English. Didn't you win first prize in the citywide English competition a while ago?"

"Really? I'm just more interested in it, so I've been exposed to it more often." He does like foreign languages, not just English. He really enjoys the feeling of listening to different languages; it's quite magical.

"Yes, anyway, in my opinion your English is already very good. I'm super envious. Do you think you'll become a super excellent translator in the future?" Su Xun didn't hold back his praise for Pei Ke, and then thought of the translators he had seen in TV dramas before.

Pei Ke, on the other hand, was at a loss for how to respond to the barrage of praise, so he closed the book and put it away on the table.

Are you envious?

He had occasionally thought about spending his life with foreign languages, enjoying the feeling of foreign words swirling on his tongue. Even though they were completely different languages, they shared commonalities and could be easily converted between each other.

So a tiny seed took root in consciousness, waiting to be discovered by its owner the moment it sprouted from the soil.
