Chapter 157 Dark Fairy Tale (28)

“Let’s assume this is a teddy bear.” Fang He seemed to have completely ignored Xiao Cheng’s words. “This sentence means that this person’s teddy bear is missing.”

"So, I'd like to ask everyone here to recall their childhood: has anyone ever lost a poor teddy bear?"

The group looked at each other in bewilderment.

Xiao Cheng was the first to distance herself from the situation: "Hilarious, I had no childhood at all."

"I've been studying candlestick charts and exchange rates since I was three years old, such a ridiculous thing as a teddy bear." Number One sneered.

Others also said that they had never lost a teddy bear.

“Ah… someone is lying, without a doubt.” Xiao Cheng concluded, spreading his hands. “If a wolf knows it is a wolf, then it must stay as far away from the clues as possible.”

A stalemate ensued.

Until the mute girl timidly raised her hand, indicating that she had something to say.

She slowly extended her finger and wrote in the air, stroke by stroke, which the crowd deciphered with some difficulty, one character at a time.

"You once gave Number Five a bear keychain, but you lost it later?" Number Three asked her, stringing the words together.

The mute girl nodded, then lowered her arm and shrank back into the corner.

"The keychain...it shouldn't have much to do with Little Bear, right?" Number Three asked uncertainly. "Besides, Number Five is already dead. A dead person can't possibly...ah, sorry, I didn't mean to bring that up."

The mute girl shook her head to indicate that she didn't mind, but her face betrayed her deep sorrow.

"Let's leave it as a question for now, since this is the only thing that's out in the open and related to it," Number Two concluded.

They waited until eight o'clock, but no new clues appeared on the electronic screen.

"It seems our guess was wrong; the clues don't appear every hour," Fang He said, not particularly surprised.

“There’s no point in just waiting here.” Number One straightened up again. “Let’s move freely. Since we can’t find the wolf… let’s give him a chance to make his move.”

No one spoke, and in the silence, Number Four reached out and tugged at Number Three's arm, whispering, "Brother, come upstairs with me. I haven't had breakfast, and I'm hungry."

The two brothers went upstairs to have breakfast. Xiao Cheng watched their backs, pondered for a moment, then turned to Fang He and gave him a smile.

Fang He sighed helplessly, "Let's go." This meant he was particularly aware of his role as a meal ticket.

So downstairs, only number one and number two remained, along with a mute girl huddled in a corner, barely noticeable.

"Aren't you going upstairs?" Number Two asked.

The mute girl was stunned for a moment before she realized that he was talking to her. So she slowly shook her head and pointed to the electronic screen.

“Perfect, let’s keep an eye on it together.” Number Two nodded to indicate that he understood her meaning.

Number One scoffed from the side, "Who knows, she might be the wolf."

"Then I will protect you too," Number Two said with certainty.

In the kitchen on the second floor, Xiao Cheng crossed her arms and watched Fang He fry steamed bun slices.

The first few slices weren't cooked properly and were slightly burnt, but Fang He's movements became noticeably more skillful afterward, and the evenly thick slices of steamed bun were fried until golden brown and fragrant.

"You've made great progress," Xiao Cheng praised without reservation.

The two brothers watched in stunned silence. Number Three looked at the dry steamed bun in his hand and said, "Aren't the ingredients supposed to be divided up for each meal every day? How can it be like this?"

“The ingredients are dead, but people are alive,” Xiao Cheng said philosophically.

"Speaking of which, what do you think about that clue?" Fang He plated the fried bread slices and handed them to Xiao Cheng, then turned off the heat and washed the pan.

"Shouldn't the focus be on the little bear brother?" Number Four suddenly interjected.

"Little Bear... there are only two brothers here." Xiao Cheng casually mentioned.

Number Three quickly waved his hand to distance himself: "How could that be? You can't assume we're brothers just because someone calls me 'little bear brother,' can you? Wasn't it supposed to be a teddy bear? Besides, I'm not even..."

"Shh." Xiao Cheng raised a finger, interrupting his explanation.

"Be careful," she said with a nonchalant smile, her tone teasing. "If you reveal your identity, you're done for."

Number Three was stunned for a moment, and when he came to his senses, he almost broke out in a cold sweat. He tried to cover up his mistake by taking several bites of the steamed bun, stuffing his mouth full.

"Don't be nervous, it's okay if she didn't say anything." Fang He kindly handed him a glass of water. "In fact, compared to you, the mute girl is closer to the clues."

"Because of the keychain?" Number Three used the water to slide the steamed bun down.

“Unless we can find a teddy bear, a keychain is the most suitable thing,” Xiao Cheng explained.

“She doesn’t seem like it,” Number Four spoke again. “I can’t describe the feeling, but… she’s not a wolf.”

"Oh?" Xiao Cheng raised an eyebrow. "That's quite a strange ability. Why don't you try to sense it again and guess if I'm a wolf?"

Number Four silently lowered his head, not responding to her words. Number Three awkwardly stepped in to smooth things over: "My brother isn't very good at talking."

"She's not very good at talking, don't worry, she doesn't mean any harm. Don't overthink what she says, just take it literally," Fang He said calmly.

"Ah..." Number Three scratched his head sheepishly, "You two have a really good relationship."

Xiao Cheng paused, his chopsticks still in his hand, and suddenly the slice of steamed bread in his hand lost its flavor. He looked at Number Three with particular confusion: "How did you come to this conclusion?"

"Alright, enough with the formalities, go eat." Fang He pushed the plate towards Xiao Cheng again.
