Chapter 36 Yanghua Cloud Sea (Twenty-Three)
Since Wei Feng mastered the method of cultivating his primordial spirit in his sea of consciousness, he felt that time was flying by.
After finishing his classes at Touchun Peak for the day, he would return to Qingping Peak in the evening, where Jiang Gu would check his learning progress. Then he would begin his cultivation. Every day at Yin Shi (3-5 AM), before dawn, Jiang Gu would wake him up to teach him swordsmanship. At Mao Shi (5-7 AM), he would run around Qingping Peak ten times. When the time came, he would go to Touchun Peak for his next class.
In just one month, Wei Feng had almost forgotten what it felt like to sleep.
That morning, he practiced his sword in front of the cave as usual.
The swordsmanship that Jiang Gu started teaching was very simple, consisting of nothing more than a few basic movements such as slashing, chopping, smashing, and blocking. Wei Feng had practiced it thousands of times, and blisters had formed on his hands and palms in just a few days. Every time he practiced swordsmanship, his palms were in excruciating pain.
But he didn't dare complain, for fear that Jiang Gu would dislike him and stop teaching him.
"Straighten your back." Jiang Gu stood beside him, his brows slightly furrowed, and the scabbard in his hand mercilessly struck his slightly hunched back.
Wei Feng groaned in pain, the sword in his hand trembled twice, and then the scabbard was pulled back to his arm.
"Don't let your arm shake." Jiang Gu's sword sheath slammed into the inside of his knee. "Get into a horse stance."
Wei Feng gritted his teeth, holding his sword high. Sweat trickled down his forehead and onto his chin. He stared straight ahead, his voice trembling slightly, "Master, I can't hold on much longer."
"Then let's take a break," Jiang Gu said.
Before Wei Feng could even smile, Jiang Gu said coldly, "When you're fighting someone, you'd better convince them to let you take a break."
Wei Feng immediately shut up and obediently held his sword until dawn. Only when Jiang Gu said it was okay did he sit down on the ground, his legs trembling.
He had just closed his eyes and was drifting off to sleep when Jiang Gu's icy voice rang in his ears like a death knell, "Go around the mountain."
Wei Fengsheng opened his eyes listlessly, his voice weak as he said, "Master, I actually don't plan to cultivate my body anymore..."
He doesn't really need to be very strong; as long as his magic is powerful, no one can get close to him.
"What if you lose all your magic power?" Jiang Gu stared down at him. "With your current cultivation level, anyone can get close to you. Do you really enjoy having your core extracted?"
Wei Feng suddenly recalled some unpleasant memories, and his lower abdomen began to ache slightly.
Jiang Gu looked at the boy who was sprawled on the ground like a rag doll and placed his hand on the sword sheath.
"I'll run to Master right now!" Wei Feng hurriedly got up and began running along the rugged mountain path around Qingping Peak with a pained expression.
Jiang Gu followed behind him on his sword the whole time. If he slowed down even slightly, the ice spikes formed from his spiritual energy would graze his heels and pierce into the rocks. Even though he knew that Jiang Gu wouldn't really hurt him, the icy touch still made his scalp tingle.
Who would have thought that it took him a whole day to climb Qingping Peak the first time, but now he can run ten laps in an hour?
After finally ending two hours of torture, Wei Feng felt relieved when he went to Touchun Peak for class.
"Senior Brother Wei!" Liu Xian saw him and ran over happily. "Senior Brother Wei, please slow down."
Wei Feng turned his head to look at him, "Good morning."
"Good morning, Senior Brother." Liu Xian tilted his head slightly. "Senior Brother Wei, have you grown taller recently?"
"Really?" Wei Feng raised his hand to gesture with him, and said with some surprise, "It does seem a bit taller."
"You've lost weight too," Liu Xian said with a smile. "Senior Brother must have had a tough time at Qingping Peak."
"It's alright." Wei Feng glanced at Mo Daojin turning around the corner and deliberately raised his voice, "My master has taught me day and night and taken care of me meticulously, so it's not hard work."
Upon hearing this, Mo Daojin glanced at him, then, carrying the book, went into the room without looking to the side.
Wei Feng crossed his arms and clicked his tongue.
His favorite class at Touchun Peak was the basic cultivation technique taught by Jiang Gu. He didn't know if it was his master's intention, but the pace of the class was very suitable for his cultivation speed. The only thing that bothered him was that whenever Jiang Gu appeared at Touchun Peak, Mo Daojin would always be by his side.
He's like a little tagalong.
Wei Feng had witnessed Mo Daojin asking Jiang Gu questions privately more than once, and Jiang Gu had explained them to him in great detail.
Even though he knew that Jiang Gu was very serious about his disciples' studies, and although he was cold and unapproachable, he would definitely give the most suitable advice whenever a disciple asked, Wei Feng just couldn't stand Mo Daojin.
Sure enough, Jiang Gu soon emerged from the corner of the connecting corridor.
"Master!" Wei Feng left Liu Xian behind and went to greet him excitedly.
Jiang Gu was already used to his wailing and howling during morning practice, but his lively and unruly behavior once he arrived at Touchun Peak, so he gave a lukewarm response.
"Master, tomorrow is a day off. Can I go down the mountain with Xuan Zhiyan and the others to play?" Wei Feng looked at him expectantly.
"Who are they?" Consultant Jiang asked.
Wei Feng held up his fingers to count for him, "Xuan Zhiyan, Liu Xian, Du Qing, Bai Jingtong, and several junior sisters from Yu Qianning's side. Senior Brother Feng will also be bringing people. There are a lot of people. They're even discussing going to Longyun City for dinner and staying overnight."
“Go ahead,” Jiang Gu said.
Wei Feng looked at Jiang Gu with surprise, "Really, Master?"
He didn't expect Jiang Gu to agree at all, since Jiang Gu was very strict about his cultivation. He asked purely to make conversation and keep Jiang Gu from seeing Mo Daojin.
"You've worked hard these past few days, it's good to relax a bit," Jiang Gu said. "Go in and start class."
"Thank you, Master!" Wei Feng immediately forgot about Mo Daojin. The joy of going out and having fun completely overshadowed the pain of his cultivation during this period.
Jiang Gu watched him run inside happily, only to be met by a black-haired boy who had been looking this way from the doorway.
How can you fish if you don't put out the bait?
That evening, Wei Feng enthusiastically packed his things for the next day in the small cave.
He had never gone out to play with so many fellow students before. Before becoming Jiang Gu's disciple, almost no one was willing to associate with him. The only one he could call a friend was Xuan Zhiyan, and then there were his senior and junior sisters. Most of them spent a lot of spirit stones and then nothing came of it. But all of this changed after he became Jiang Gu's disciple. He not only made many new friends, but even the elders who taught at Touchun Peak became more amiable.
Although he hadn't cared about these things before, he still liked the lively, harmonious, and normal learning environment, which made the books less boring.
“Master, Xuan Zhiyan and the others said they need to bring the sect's token when they go down the mountain, but it seems that Qingping Peak doesn't have one.” Wei Feng stuffed a handful of high-grade spirit stones into his storage bag. “I happen to know a carving craftsman in Longyun City. How about I ask him to design one for us?”
"Whatever you want." Jiang Gu wasn't particularly interested in these things.
"Alright!" Wei Feng grabbed another handful of spirit stones from his storage bag. "Master, I've noticed you only wear the same clothes every day. I'll go to Yunshang Pavilion and have a few made for you. Master, your sword still needs a tassel; I see the other elders have them. Your wrist guards are worn out and you haven't replaced them... Also, our cave is too spacious. I recently had a screen and two sets of tables and chairs custom-made. Master, if you don't like beds, we can put in a soft couch. What do you think, Master?"
Jiang Gu found his chatter annoying and didn't listen to a word he said, replying perfunctorily, "Whatever."
Seeing that he didn't refuse, Wei Feng was very happy. While packing his things, he kept rambling on. His master was probably used to being alone, and his life was rather dull and simple. He didn't even take care of his own sword. The most important function of that high-grade sword sheath was to whip him. Wei Feng quietly squatted down next to him and tugged at his sleeve.
Jiang Gu opened his eyes expressionlessly. "What now?"
"Master, would you like to have a piece of jade inlaid on your sword sheath?" Wei Feng smiled obediently. "I have a piece of fine blue jade on my peak, which is priceless and would be a perfect match for this precious sword."
Ideally, after it's inlaid, the master won't be able to bear using this scabbard to whip him.
This thing really hurts when it hits you.
Jiang Gu impatiently tossed the scabbard to him.
Wei Feng hugged the culprit who had been whipping him half to death every day and smiled slyly, "Alright, Master."
Wei Feng used to live a very refined life, with dozens of people serving him at Qingping Peak. Even after moving to Qingping Peak, he didn't compromise himself. He used the best of everything and decorated his simple little cave to be comfortable and luxurious. He even inlaid the cave ceiling with luminous pearls. Whenever he meditated in the cave, a dazzling light would surround him, making him look like he was about to ascend to heaven after achieving perfect merit.
Jiang Gu's eyes hurt from looking at it so much.
"Master, I've rarely felt sleepy since I started cultivating. Is it because I get plenty of rest in my sea of consciousness?" Wei Feng went into his little cave, put away his sword sheath, and felt smug. He was relieved that he wouldn't be whipped tomorrow morning and wouldn't have to practice swordsmanship anymore. Although he knew that his master was doing it for his own good, it was still nice to be able to rest for a day.
“It’s not about resting, it’s just about replenishing your energy in another sense. You can relax and sleep occasionally—” Before Jiang Gu could finish speaking, a soft snore could be heard.
He turned his head and saw Wei Feng lying on the rattan mat, fast asleep in a strange position, his right hand even stuck in the gap, as if he was about to reach for something.
Jiang Gu decisively looked away.
Seriously... they're incredibly stupid in every way imaginable.
As Jiang Gu had predicted, Wei Feng slept soundly the next morning and was unable to get up on time.
Xuan Zhiyan and Liu Xian called out to him for a long time from the foot of the mountain using sound transmission talismans, and finally had to muster up their courage to go up the mountain.
The two men respectfully performed a disciple's salute outside the cave. "Elder Jiang, we have arranged to go down the mountain with Wei Feng today."
Standing at the cave entrance, Jiang Gu nodded, flicked some spiritual energy with his hand behind his back, and hit Wei Feng squarely on the forehead.
"Ah, what's wrong!?" Wei Feng jumped up, looking around in alarm. Before he even opened his eyes, he reached for his sword. "Master, I'm going to practice my sword right now!"
"..." Jiang Gu glanced at him indifferently, "Weren't you supposed to be going down the mountain today?"
"Oh, right—" Wei Feng slapped his forehead, his face lighting up when he saw Xuan Zhiyan and Liu Xian outside the cave. He hurriedly changed his clothes, grabbed the storage bag stuffed full on the bedside table, ran halfway but then turned back to take a small box from a gap, and with a hair still in his mouth, he jumped onto a flying sword in a panic, shouting, "Master, I'm leaving!"
Jiang Gu didn't even turn his head, and directly sealed off the cave, enjoying a rare moment of peace and quiet.
"That's really going too far." Wei Feng muttered, handing the storage bag and wooden box to Xuan Zhiyan. "Hold these for me, I need to tie my hair."
The wind made his long hair fly wildly. Liu Xian said, "Senior Brother Wei, there are many of us, why don't we rent a flying boat?"
"Why rent a flying boat? I have several flying boats left at Lianyun Peak. Tell Senior Brother Feng that we'll leave from Lianyun Peak," Wei Feng said.
"That's great!" Liu Xian said happily. "It will save us a lot of money."
"Aren't you worried about being too flashy now?" Xuan Zhiyan looked at Wei Feng.
Wei Feng tied her hair up. "There are still many senior and junior sisters. It wouldn't be good if their skirts and hairpins were blown into disarray by the wind when we fly there on our swords."
"Mind your own business." Xuan Zhiyan chuckled.
Wei Feng clicked his tongue twice: "See? That's why they like to play with me but never with you."
"Get out! Get out!" Xuan Zhiyan punched him in annoyance.
Wei Feng chuckled, and the group headed straight for Lianyun Peak.
Several airships docked in the sea of clouds at Lianyun Peak. A dozen or so teenagers boarded the airships noisily, immersed in the joy of going down the mountain for a trip, completely unaware that someone had quietly followed behind the airships.
Jiang Gu put on the mask that changed his appearance and accurately found Wei Feng among the group of people.
His face was beaming with a bright smile as he leaned against the railing of the plank with his arm around Xuan Zhiyan's shoulder, chatting animatedly with several teenagers. His eyes were bright and burning, and behind him was an endless sea of clouds rushing by.
He really does seem like a carefree young master.
Unfortunately, it's only similar.
Wei Feng seemed to sense something and turned his head. Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of a blurry yet familiar figure in the sea of clouds, and his expression changed slightly.
"What's wrong, Wei Feng?" Du Qing asked, who was talking to him.
"It's nothing," Wei Feng smiled, concealing the unease in his eyes.
He thought he saw that old pervert.
