I'm a Doctor in the Apocalypse

My name is Lu Xiaonan, and I am a doctor. Three days ago, my friend Su Ming told me that the entire world would face a catastrophe and fall, and to be prepared. At the time, I didn't believe hi...

Chapter 7 Go Out

Then Shen Lin unfolded the paper in his hand, on which were written the three words "Not going out".

The result was obvious: the two people who went out were me and Zhang Jianzhou.

I have no thoughts on this result.

Zhang Jianzhou looked very scared, his hand holding the paper trembling.

Seeing this result, Liu's smile faded. He glanced at the two of us and said, "Um, Xiao Lu, Dr. Zhang, you two..."

I put down the paper in my hand and lowered my head.

Liu Neng continued, "This is the result of the draw. As we said before, whoever draws it gets to leave. Now that you two have drawn it, you two have to leave. I know this is a bit unfair, but... that's the only way. As for the grudge between you two, I don't want to get involved, but I still feel it's necessary to say something."

“Dr. Zhang, I understand what happened just now. Zhou Yang died because of you. So, I hope you won’t do anything to betray us. That way, the chances of you two surviving will be much greater.”

Zhang Jianzhou looked up at Liu Neng, his eyes filled with despair, and sneered, "If you're so right, why don't you go out?"

Liu Neng said, "If I drew it, I would definitely leave! But we agreed that whoever draws it leaves."

Looking at Liu Neng, I knew in my heart that he was actually scared too, but he had no choice but to say that in order to get the two of us out.

"Yeah, it was agreed before that whoever draws the card goes out, and there's no going back, otherwise we'll all just be waiting to die here," Shen Lin said indifferently.

Zhang Jianzhou clenched his fists, struggling with his thoughts. Everyone could see that he didn't want to go out, but in the end, he compromised.

"Okay, I'll go out."

Liu Neng breathed a sigh of relief and then said, "Well then, before you leave, I hope you can promise Xiao Lu that you will not do anything to harm or betray others again."

Zhang Jianzhou came to the door, stood in front of me and said, "Xiao Lu, I'm sorry about what happened with Zhou Yang before, but I had no choice at the time, I was too scared, so I pulled Zhou Yang, and as a result... I'm really sorry."

"You should say that to Zhou Yang." After saying this, he silently cursed a few times in his heart, and then said, "Let's go."

I stood at the door, gripping the doorknob, took a deep breath, mustered my courage, and carefully turned the doorknob.

I tried to remain silent, but I opened the door a crack and peeked outside.

There was a trail of blood in the hallway outside the door, clearly left by Zhou Yang. Zhou Yang should have turned into a monster by now and gone somewhere else, right?

I didn't see any monster outside the door through the crack.

I mustered my courage, opened the door, and cautiously peeked out. I looked around and spotted a monster lurking not far down the corridor to my left.

As for the corridor on the right, there were no monsters there.

Fortunately, the vending machine was at the end of the right-hand corridor.

"What's the situation outside?" Liu Neng asked me.

I turned to them and said, "There's only one monster, in the left corridor."

Zhang Jianzhou peeked out, then nodded at me and said, "Let's go."

"Um."

He took the first step, carefully leaving the ward, not daring to make a sound, for fear of attracting the monster on the left side of the corridor.

I followed him out of the ward, keeping a close eye on the monster behind me.

Liu Neng and the others left the door ajar, watching us.

We moved very slowly because we dared not make a sound; we tiptoed around, which naturally prevented us from going fast.

Fortunately, we didn't fail in our mission. Luckily, the monster behind us didn't notice us after we approached the lab door.

In another ten meters, I would reach the vending machine, which was filled with potato chips, cookies, and drinks, making my mouth water involuntarily.

However, after walking another five meters, Zhang Jianzhou stopped.

I don't quite understand why he stopped. There's a vending machine right ahead, and we'll be able to get our food soon!

"Hurry up!" I urged softly.

"See for yourself!" Zhang Jianzhou turned his head and pointed to the other side of the corner of the corridor.

I looked in the direction he was pointing, and my scalp tingled with fear.

In the other corridor around the corner, there were countless monsters, all with their backs to us.

I remember now, that corridor was the infusion area, and it was always crowded, day and night. These monsters must be patients from that area, right?

"What do we do now?" I asked.

Fear flashed in Zhang Jianzhou's eyes as he said, "Go back."

I nodded. This was the only option we had. If we went to the vending machine to get food, it would definitely attract the attention of these monsters, and then we would both be doomed.

We turned around, afraid to make a sound, lest we disturb the monster in the other corridor.

I glanced at the monster in the distance ahead; it was still lingering in the same spot, oblivious to our presence.

Bang!

Suddenly, a noise came from the door of the laboratory on my right, which startled me so much that my heart stopped!

Through the glass door, I saw a monster inside the laboratory. The moment it saw us, it pounced on the door and crashed into it, making that noise.

"Awooo—" Suddenly, a series of roars came from behind.

Turning around, we saw that all the monsters in the other corridor had turned around as well. Their unfocused eyes were fixed on the two of us, and as their roars came, the monsters charged forward.

"Run!" Zhang Jianzhou suddenly shouted, which almost made me collapse.

He took a step and ran up behind me, knocking me to the ground without even looking.

My head throbbed from hitting the wall. Without thinking, I scrambled to my feet and ran back with Zhang Jianzhou. Monsters were swarming behind me, their roars sending chills down my spine!

Fortunately, the door ahead wasn't far away. Liu saw this scene but didn't close the door. Instead, he opened it and waited for us to run in.

Zhang Jianzhou ran extremely fast, dashing into the ward in just over ten steps. Liu Neng originally wanted to wait for me to run in before closing the door, but at this moment, Zhang Jianzhou pushed Liu Neng open and slammed the ward door shut!

"No, don't close the door! Don't close the door!" I shouted as I ran toward the door with wide eyes.

When I got to the door, I kept banging on it and shouting, "Open the door! Please open the door..."

The monsters chasing me were incredibly fast. I knocked on the door twice, and they were right beside me.

I didn't dare hesitate at the door; I turned and ran!
