How should I put it? This is a story about a dumb protagonist who transmigrates to another world, gains superpowers, and then lives a lazy life, interspersed with a bunch of weird things that pop u...
"Heroine! Heroine! This is the first time I've walked so far. Before this, I was just doing odd jobs for the search team!"
"Oh? Then why did you give up this relatively safe job?"
The guy laughed and was silent for a long time before replying, "It's nothing. What forces people to face danger is either love or hunger."
"Are you the former or the latter? I don't believe any love can withstand the dual test of wealth and power, except for unrequited love."
“…It can be considered love, I guess!”
"Is it true love or false love?"
The man remained silent. He thought carefully for a while, and finally stopped at a crossroads: "We're here!"
A road sign, twisted into a knot by the shockwave, stood in the middle of the road, with collapsed shops and houses on either side. Jiang Ling continued to look ahead and saw a hospital-like building still intact.
Jiang Ling pulled out a map from the small bag at her waist. She realized she had unknowingly walked a little further. If she returned to her destination right then, the extra distance she had walked would be a useless waste. So she figured, since she was already here, it would be a waste not to take something back.
"Then go ahead, and you have to pay me when you're done!"
Their destination was the hospital's underground warehouse, where an unknown number of various medicines should still be stored, if the search teams and mutants hadn't visited.
"Do you know the hospital here?"
"Yes, at least I'm familiar with part of this place!"
"But I remember that before the war, many patients here couldn't be transferred away, and many medical staff had to stay."
"Yes, they all volunteered. They held on until the very last moment!"
The two walked through several ruins and finally saw the flattened hospital gate. They stood in front of the burnt-white automatic door and looked up. All the window glass was shattered in the nuclear explosion.
"In most cases, they die from the shock wave." Jiang Ling sighed. She had good eyesight and saw that many enamel cups that fell from the window were shattered by the shock wave.
"I hope so. That way at least there won't be too much pain."
"No, you're wrong. People who died from shock waves were in great pain, their internal organs were shattered, but their brains were cushioned by bones and fluids, so they would probably retain consciousness for a few seconds to ten seconds. Besides, this place is too far away from the explosion point, so the damage may not be that serious." Jiang Ling should have a lot to say about nuclear explosions. This is really a sad story. Since then, she has looked up a lot of information.
Max hid in his helmet, tears streaming down his face. He listened to Old Joe's rational analysis and then cursed inwardly, "What bad luck!"
"Let's go! If you stop there, be careful or you might get taken away by a saber-toothed beast!" Jiang Ling stepped over a corpse that had been eaten up by something, kicked away the debris blocking the door, and was the first to enter the hospital building.
"Wait! There might be mutants in there!" Max hurriedly chased after him.
The tiles and flooring inside the building had been completely cracked, creaking when walked on. The hallways were littered with various unburned papers and plastic bottles of medicine. Some doors were ajar, hissing in the wind, while others simply lay on the ground, allowing the two searchers to step over them. Jiang Ling followed Max for a few minutes until they arrived at an elevator door. As Jiang Ling pried open the stuck elevator door with a shovel, the two discovered that the elevator to the basement was damaged, and the dark elevator shaft was welcoming the two new visitors.
"Is there somewhere else to go down? It would be best if there were stairs!"
"I remember there was an underground parking lot. It should be connected to the medicine warehouse, otherwise it would be inconvenient for them to restock the medicine." Max hesitated for a few seconds before answering. He didn't want to mention the underground parking lot, especially after his search team rescued the survivors down there.
"What's wrong? What happened down there?"
"No, nothing." Max continued to lead the way.
The two continued forward, passing through creaking corridors and internal passages strewn with rubble and damaged household items. After about ten minutes, they arrived at the entrance to an underground garage. Max stopped at the roadblock at the entrance. His legs were shaking, and he couldn't go any further. His helmet was pointed straight down, as if his soul had been sucked away by the darkness below.
"Hey! Are you okay?" Jiang Ling quickly stepped forward, patted his shoulder and said, "If you don't dare to go down, you can tell me your location! Then find a safe place outside and wait for me to come up."
"Okay, okay! I'll tell you! But you have to do me a favor!" Max came back to his senses and blinked a few times behind his helmet.
"Huh? I remember it!"
"After going down here, walk forward until you reach the wall, then turn left. You will see several light wells with light shining through. Walk to the third light well and turn left again. Walk a little further and you will reach the place. But the door is locked. The key is with the survivor who was inside at the time. She was wearing a white down jacket. If she hadn't moved, she should be lying next to the truck by the door! Inside... there are mutants in there, be careful!"
Jiang Ling took down the crossbow and a carbon arrow from his back, gently plucked the bowstring, and placed the arrow where it should be. Then, he passed Max and said to him without turning his head, "If I don't come back within an hour, you can go back!"
The underground garage wasn't as dark as she'd imagined, perhaps because Jiang Ling's darkvision was working. She sensed that there were indeed several mutants hiding there, but she couldn't tell what kind they were. As for the door key, she figured it had been moved to one of their nests or a pile of feces.
