Chapter 27 Second Trial (Part 2)

"Li Wenjia! I originally thought you were someone special, but now it seems you're just ordinary." Lu Xianwu shook his head. "I've met many people like you."

"Oh? What happened to them later? Were there any successful ones?"

"No, not a single one. They lost everything; or became disgraced and became a frequent flier; or suddenly disappeared and their bodies disintegrated... You are just like them, a complete gambler!"

"Really?" Li Wenjia scoffed at his words. "I'm different from them! Look, I'm not after money, power, or sex. I even spent several months as a homeless person. I have nothing and want nothing. Guess what I'm gambling for?"

Lu Xianwu cast a deep glance at him, only to see half of his body, intently driving. His eyes welled up as that figure overlapped with that of his former comrade.

"For the people?" he asked.

Li Wenjia smiled and replied, "No, I don't have your lofty ambitions."

Time flew by as they spoke, and after they carefully drove across a broken bridge, the blizzard finally stopped. All around them was blanketed in snow, with almost no signs of human activity. Only behind them remained a few long tire tracks.

As the sky gradually brightened, Li Wenjia timely turned off the headlights. What troubled them now wasn't the drone or the snowstorm, but an aerial threat over a thousand kilometers away. They desperately needed a hard shelter, but there was none nearby.

Of course, those laser weapons in orbit will not necessarily attack the Gladiator III they are riding in. Compared with such small vehicles, high-value targets in urban areas are obviously more cost-effective.

Li Wenjia squinted his eyes and drove with one hand. His other hand fumbled in his leg pocket for a while, then pulled out a pair of sunglasses. The sun was still very hot, and the reflectivity of the snow was too high. If you don't prepare some good equipment, the naked eye will not be able to withstand such stimulation.

"We have to find a place to park quickly." Lu Xianwu urged.

"I know, I know. I remember all the combat instructions!" Li Wenjia replied, "Finding a place to park isn't important right now. What's more important is figuring out where they are."

"Them? Didn't you see the map sent by headquarters?" Lu Xianwu picked up the tablet and tapped on it twice. "They're all marked. Let me see. Fuling District, Central Park, North Station, West Station, and even the suburbs to the south are all possible entrances to the station. We'll search them one by one later, starting with the closest ones..."

"I don't think it's necessary to go to such trouble! We won't have enough time to search them all."

Li Wenjia observed his surroundings as he spoke. He stopped by the embankment on the bank of the Wu River. Not far away, another Gladiator of the same model sat quietly.

He jumped out of the car and quickly climbed up the embankment.

They are very vigilant.

As soon as Li Wenjia showed his head, he heard the sound of bullets being loaded from below.

"Fuck!" Li Wenjia reacted faster and immediately lay on the ground.

In a state of absolute silence, what should happen when scouts meet scouts?

Honestly, he hadn't considered this situation. And in fact, the prerequisites for this question were extremely demanding. In this timeline, Country Z hadn't had any issues with friend-or-foe identification for decades.

Li Wenjia found that he had never learned the relevant knowledge at all, and the same was true on the other side. Moreover, they were now in an unfavorable terrain and could only determine the approximate location of the sound source.

The two sides were deadlocked and no one dared to act rashly.

As time passed, Li Wenjia felt that this was not a solution. He thought about it again and again, and finally came up with a solution that was not a solution.

He reached for his waist, pulled a bullet from his pouch, and tossed it gently. The bullet, in a graceful parabola, landed below the embankment. The bullet bore three scratches, the exact number since yesterday afternoon.

After a while, a voice finally came from below: "Brother, you scared me."

Only then did Li Wenjia dare to stick his head out, and saw two exoskeleton warriors below, who were fiddling with something on the ice.

He shouted to the two men, "I'm Sharp Blade, what are you doing?"

"We can walk on the ice, there are no fish in this river!" one of them replied.

As they spoke, they worked together to pull a spherical object out of the hole in the ice, then packed up the cables connected to it and put them into a suitcase.

The two men returned to the embankment one after the other and nodded to Li Wenjia who was standing on the shore.

"I am a fox." said the leader.

"416. I thought we were the only ones coming here." Another person who was moving things continued.

"How did you get here? I didn't even see your tire tracks."

"We walked along the river bank, but didn't encounter the school of fish along the way. It seemed like there were hunters underwater. So we used this, but there was no signal at all." The fox knocked on the instrument.

Several people returned to the car, and after Li Wenjia called the last person over, they briefly exchanged opinions.

"Yesterday, the weather cleared up briefly, and I saw quite a bit of heavy robot activity in the city. They must have a destination. Following them will definitely lead us to an underground station. Their station might be on an industrial line. Then we can sneak in quietly and download offline data from the signal station."
