Chapter 90's ending leaves one with a lingering sense of unease. ...
Eleven years later, Ke Yanchen returned to Nanhai City. Looking at this familiar yet unfamiliar city, he felt an indescribable surge of emotions.
When old friends saw Ke Yanchen, they surrounded him as if he were an antique, saying that he had changed, but they couldn't quite put their finger on it.
Ke Yanchen leaned back in his chair with a faint smile, letting their unrestrained gazes roam freely.
After a long while, someone slapped their thigh and exclaimed, "His demeanor has changed! He's become humble!"
Someone chimed in: "Yes, it's that feeling of pride being shattered and then stitched back together, a resemblance in form but not in spirit. A kind of sedimentation that has weathered many storms."
"Sigh, Ke Zi used to be so handsome. There wasn't a single girl in our school who didn't like him."
"Hey, hey, hey, Ren Kezi isn't bad either."
"It doesn't have that flamboyant feeling anymore... all that cynical arrogance is gone."
"This is fine too..."
"Back then, Ke Zi, regarding your family's situation, I was also limited in my abilities."
"...I never believed any of those crazy rumors."
Fortunately, they've made a comeback...
"It's good that you divorced that woman. I'll introduce you to a better one another day..."
"Yeah, it's not easy for us to get together like this, come on, let's have a drink..."
Amidst the buzzing discussions, Ke Yanchen's sharp features were concealed, his usual fierce and unruly demeanor gone. He simply lowered his eyelids, a gentle smile playing on his lips, remaining silent as he toasted with his friends one by one.
...
Ke Yanchen has been busy with his trip abroad recently.
Due to company business restructuring, he plans to settle abroad in the future.
Ke Yanchen's company preparations are almost complete. Today, he's going to his son's school to complete the transfer procedures.
Ke Yanchen's son, Ke Zhi, is already nine years old. In the afternoon, Ke Yanchen came to the school and took his son to the academic affairs office to complete a series of procedures. Some documents will take a few more days to be processed.
The two walked side by side through the lush campus, the warm glow of the setting sun casting two shadows, one long and one short, on the road.
"Keke!" a childish voice rang out.
Ke Yanchen and Ke Zhi turned to look and saw a little girl with lively and adorable features. Her face was as bright and beautiful as a flower, her skin was snow-white, and she wore an exquisite white dress, clearly indicating that she was from a wealthy family.
The little girl ran up to Ke Zhi, looked up at him timidly, and asked, "Ke Ke, are you really transferring schools?"
Ke Zhi remained expressionless, even slightly frowning, and said coldly, "I told you not to follow me."
The little girl lowered her head in disappointment, stood there, wringing her hands helplessly without saying a word.
Ke Yanchen gave his son a warning look, then squatted down to meet the little girl's gaze. The moment their eyes met, Ke Yanchen was momentarily dazed, almost losing his balance.
The little girl looked timidly at Ke Yanchen, and said hesitantly in a low voice, "My mother doesn't let me talk to strangers..."
The implication is that you are a stranger and I will not talk to you.
Ke Yanchen chuckled and said softly to the little girl, "I'm your brother Ke's father. Do you consider me a stranger?"
The little girl's eyes lit up. She glanced at Ke Zhi beside her, then at Ke Yanchen, and chuckled, "Not exactly strangers!"
Ke Yanchen smiled faintly.
"Uncle," the little girl asked timidly, "is Brother Ke transferring schools?"
"Yes. My uncle's family will be settling abroad from now on."
The little girl let out a disappointed sigh, "Does that mean I'll never see Brother Ke again?"
Ke Yanchen smiled gently: "Yes, that should be true."
The little girl's face was scrunched up, and she looked very sad.
Ke Zhi lost his patience and stood beside Ke Yanchen, urging, "Don't waste time with this brat, let's go."
Ke Yanchen chuckled and teased him, "That little girl is so adorable, how come you, this blockhead, aren't moved at all?"
Ke Zhi remained unmoved, standing there coldly without uttering a sound.
The little girl tugged at Ke Yanchen's trouser leg, "Uncle Ke, please don't blame Brother Ke. My mom says I have a lot of bad habits and sometimes I deserve a beating."
Ke Yanchen felt a pang of pity, gazing at the little girl's exquisitely beautiful face, and felt a connection to someone he knew. He smiled and asked, "Oh? What bad habit?"
The little girl stomped her foot. "Mom is a picky eater herself! She keeps saying I'm a picky eater and deserve a beating! But I just don't like rice, I only like snacks!"
A ringing in my ears, and my heart pounding wildly.
—Those memories he had deliberately forgotten all came flooding back to him at once.
His heart suddenly felt like it had been violently ripped open, a bitter and painful ache spreading through his throat, a turbulent feeling choking him. After a long while, he lowered his eyes and replied somewhat dejectedly, "Oh, it's not a bad habit."
The little girl was overjoyed, her eyes crinkling as she tugged at his trouser leg and said in a sweet, coquettish voice, "Uncle, you're so kind."
Ke Yanchen stared at her blankly, as if he could see the girl with the black-rimmed glasses again, with the same satisfied smile, tugging at his clothes and calling him Ke Ke again and again.
Her dark pupils were truly like a veil of mist. Unable to find relief from the bitterness in his heart, Ke Yanchen's breath caught in his throat. He pursed his lips, turned his head uncomfortably, and swallowed the stinging tears welling up in his eyes.
*
Ke Yanchen and Ke Zhi escorted the little girl back to the teaching building. He was somewhat absent-minded, staring at the little girl's figure until it completely disappeared for a long time before turning around and walking out.
Ke Zhi noticed that his father was in low spirits and didn't say much along the way.
In the car, Ke Yanchen was driving, and Ke Zhi was sitting in the passenger seat.
While waiting at a red light, Ke Yanchen, who was next to me, suddenly asked, "What's that girl's surname?"
Ke Zhi frowned, not understanding why his father cared so much about that brat. He said calmly, "Cheng, Cheng Ziyu."
"Oh." The red light turned green, and Ke Yanchen started the car. "Don't be so cold to them."
Ke Zhi didn't understand his father's intentions, and he didn't understand what was so good about that chattering brat. He remained silent.
Ke Yanchen glanced at him sideways and smiled faintly: "I named you Ke Zhi in the hope that you would be passionate and sincere. I didn't expect you to be so cold-hearted."
Ke Zhi remained noncommittal, turning his head to look out the window with a blank expression.
*
Ke Zhi's transfer procedures have been completed, and Ke Yanchen and his son will be leaving the country tomorrow.
After tidying up the room, Ke Zhi was somewhat absent-minded. He didn't know what was wrong with him; he was about to go abroad, and all he could think about was that talkative kid.
What's so great about her? She's just a bit talkative, a bit pretty, and a bit too cheerful.
Ke Zhi forced himself not to think about her.
The more you try to forget, the clearer the face becomes.
At five o'clock in the evening, Ke Zhi appeared on time at the door of his father's study.
He stood ramrod straight, his expression indifferent, indicating that he wanted to visit the school.
Ke Yanchen looked up from the numerous documents on his desk, lifted his eyelids to look at him, and smiled faintly.
......
I waited at the school gate until six o'clock, and the students gradually came out of the school.
The little figure skipped out and ran towards a slender woman with a long neck. The mother and daughter hugged each other. The woman lowered her head and kissed the girl's forehead. The mother and daughter chatted and laughed as they got into the car.
Ke Yanchen couldn't tear his gaze away for a long time.
Ke Zhi also kept his eyes fixed on that direction.
Neither of them spoke.
After a long, long time, until darkness fell, Ke Yanchen suddenly awoke from his daze and silently started the car.
Along with Ke Zhi, it seemed as if he had merged into the darkness, silent and unnoticed.
......
Back home, Ke Yanchen went to the storage room and found the items that Yu Wu had donated to the Museum of Broken Relationships.
He stayed alone until midnight, then returned to his room and tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He finally managed to drift off to sleep, when suddenly the sharp pain struck him, the taste of blood rising in his throat. He sat bolt upright, drenched in sweat, gasping for breath.
In his life, he has experienced countless instances of deceit, betrayal by relatives and friends, and indifference from bystanders.
But only she could give him the excruciating pain that pierced his bones, suffocated him, and made his heart choke.
He turned his head, looking at the vast night outside the window, and inexplicably recalled how Yuwu often stared at him when their love was at its peak. Her watery, shy eyes appeared in his mind and wouldn't leave. Just looking at him, he could feel her passionate heart.
He coughed violently, swayed his body, and his spine slowly bent down, unable to straighten up.
The sound of ticking could be clearly heard in the otherwise silent room.
A drop or two soaked into the blanket, quickly disappearing. Only a winding tear trail remained on his face.
We probably won't see each other again.
He no longer had that burning courage and sincerity to love someone.
Love and courage are both non-renewable resources.
Only those who have loved deeply understand.
Therefore, he was ultimately resentful, filled with regret, and would spend the rest of his life in that state.
I feel deeply resentful.

Author's Note: The main story is finished! What follows is a bonus chapter. I really wanted to write more, but I've been quite busy lately due to a job change.
I wrote this story because of the boy, A, who deceived my true feelings. A is completely different from Ke Yanchen; he's more of a quiet, reserved engineering type. Therefore, none of the characters in this story have real-life counterparts! All the events are fictional!
There will be a bonus chapter in seven days (it's already written, but it won't be released for another seven days). My dear girls, please be sure to read it!
Xiao Bao, after watching, please give it a rating~
And please add my next book to your favorites! Thank you!!
