Chapter 304 Old Classmate

Just as she quickened her pace, she suddenly heard a low dog barking.

She turned her head suddenly and saw four huge black dogs running towards the villa with fierce eyes.

"Oh my God." Ji Wan was so scared that his face turned pale and he ran away.

The four big dogs were getting closer and closer. Ji Wan was panicking and threw all the gifts in his hands to the ground in an attempt to distract the dogs. But he bumped into someone unexpectedly.

"Ouch."

Ji Wan was knocked back and looked up. It was Chi Wenyan standing there. He was wearing casual clothes and holding a book in his hand. It seemed that he had just come out of the villa for a walk.

"Dog, there's a dog." Ji Wan pointed behind him in horror.

Before Chi Wenyan could respond, the four big dogs had already caught up to him, staring at Ji Wan with bared teeth.

Ji Wan screamed in fright and instinctively pounced on Chi Wenyan, hugging his waist tightly with both hands, almost hanging on him.

"Help. I'm afraid of dogs."

Chi Wenyan was caught off guard by her sudden action and leaned back slightly, but he quickly steady himself.

He coughed lightly and ordered in a low voice: "Back off."

The four ferocious dogs immediately stopped barking and lay down on the ground obediently, but still stared at Ji Wan vigilantly.

Ji Wan still hugged Chi Wenyan tightly, her face buried in his chest, her whole body trembling.

"They won't hurt you anymore." Chi Wenyan's voice sounded above her head, with a hint of helplessness.

Only then did Ji Wan realize how awkward his posture was. He quickly let go of her hand, took two steps back, and his face flushed.

"I'm sorry, I, I was too scared." Ji Wan didn't dare to look into Chi Wenyan's eyes, and his gaze fell on his collar.

Chi Wenyan straightened his wrinkled clothes that Ji Wan had grabbed, "Why are you here?"

Ji Wan finally came back to his senses, "I heard that you were injured, I, I came to see you, and by the way, thank you for saving my life the day before yesterday."

"Injured?" Chi Wenyan frowned slightly. "Who told you?"

"Auntie Shang Yunmin called me and told me that you were injured while saving me."

Ji Wan looked at him doubtfully, "Aren't you injured?"

Chi Wenyan shook his head and said, "I'm fine, I'm not injured."

Ji Wan was stunned and looked at him in confusion, "Then why did Aunt Shang Yunmin?"

"Maybe her information is wrong." Chi Wenyan interrupted her, as if he didn't want to talk about this topic anymore, "Your gift fell."

He gestured to the scattered items behind him.

Ji Wan then remembered the gift he had thrown away and smiled awkwardly, "I was scared by the dog."

Chi Wenyan waved his hand and said, "Go, pick it up."

The four big dogs immediately ran to pick up the things that Ji Wan had dropped, brought them back in their mouths, and placed them at her feet.

Ji Wan was stunned. "Are they so obedient?"

"Well-trained." Chi Wenyan replied briefly, "Come in, since you are here."

Ji Wan hesitated for a moment, but still followed Chi Wenyan to the villa. However, he couldn't help but look back at the four big dogs from time to time, for fear that they would suddenly pounce on him.

"Don't be afraid, they won't hurt you."

Chi Wenyan seemed to see her worry, "Unless I give the order."

These words did not make Ji Wan feel at ease, but made her even more nervous.

The main house of Tanyuan is a Chinese-style villa, which is antique yet modern.

Walking into the living room, the simple decoration style is very consistent with Chi Wenyan's temperament.

"Please sit down." Chi Wenyan pointed to the sofa, walked to the coffee table and brewed a pot of tea.

"Are you really not hurt?" Ji Wan confirmed again.

Chi Wenyan handed her a cup of tea and asked, "How do I look injured?"

Ji Wan looked at him carefully and indeed did not see any scars, which made him even more confused.

"Then why did Aunt Shang Yunmin lie to me?"

Chi Wenyan glanced at her thoughtfully, "Maybe she has her own considerations."

The two fell into a brief silence. Ji Wan sipped his tea cautiously, feeling a little awkward.

"By the way, I have washed your coat and will return it to you another day." Ji Wan suddenly remembered something and spoke.

Chi Wenyan nodded, "No rush."

There was another silence.

"Your dog is so scary." Ji Wan tried to find a topic to talk about.

Chi Wenyan's mouth curled up slightly, "They are just protecting this place. They will be alert when strangers come in. Remember to tell me in advance next time you come, and I will let them know you."

Next time? Ji Wan's heart skipped a beat. Was he hinting that they might meet again in the future?

"I might not have a next time."

Ji Wan said softly, "I'm afraid Mr. Chi won't be happy if he knows I came to see you."

Chi Wenyan's eyes suddenly became sharp, "Chi Lin?"

Ji Wan agreed and said no more.

Chi Wenyan looked out the window and said, "It's getting late. I'll ask Zhou Yan to take you out so you don't get chased by the dog again."

He took out his cell phone, dialed a number, spoke briefly, and hung up.

"Zhou Yan will be here soon, please wait here for a while."

Ji Wan nodded, but her heart was filled with doubts. Chi Wenyan was clearly not injured, so why did Shang Yunmin trick her into coming? This was all too strange.

After a while, footsteps were heard outside the door.

"Second Master, are you looking for me?" Zhou Yan pushed the door open and walked in, followed by a woman.

Ji Wan looked up and saw the woman's face clearly. He was so shocked that he almost jumped up from the sofa.

"He Wanqing?"

Ji Wan was stunned where she was. The woman in front of her was wearing a beige suit. She had an elegant temperament and bright and lively eyes. She was her college classmate, He Wanqing.

"Long time no see, Ji Wan." He Wanqing's lips curled up slightly, her voice still sweet, but a hint of complex emotions flashed in her eyes.

Ji Wan nodded and forced a smile, "What a coincidence."

The feud between the two families was too deep, and Ji Wan never thought that he would meet He Wanqing here.

Chi Wenyan seemed to sense the subtle atmosphere between the two and frowned slightly, "Do you know each other?"

"College classmate." He Wanqing answered with a smile, but her eyes were always fixed on Ji Wan, as if gauging her reaction.

Ji Wan nodded, unwilling to discuss further. The He and Ji families were once business allies, but a collaborative project went awry and the two families became enemies. Ji's father was accused of betrayal by the He family, and the He family suffered heavy losses as a result.

"Miss Ji wants to leave, Zhou Yan, send her out." Chi Wenyan glanced at Ji Wan with a flat tone.

Zhou Yan took a step forward, "Miss Ji, please follow me."

Ji Wan stood up and said to Chi Wenyan with a little embarrassment: "Sorry to bother you, I will return the coat to you another day."

Chi Wenyan nodded lightly without saying much.

Ji Wan followed Zhou Yan to the door, but his heart was full of doubts.

Why did He Wanqing appear at Chi Wenyan's residence? What is her relationship with the Chi family?

Just as the two of them walked to the door, Chi Wenyan's low voice came from behind them.

"He Wanqing, I will give you an explanation about what happened before."
