Chapter 64 Getting to Know My Baby: I'm More Excited Than I Thought I Would Have…

"Bang! Bang! Rumble—"

A deafening thunderclap cleaved the sky in a narrow arc, illuminating the world that had been shrouded in darkness.

Zhou Jinqin put away her soaking wet umbrella, carefully folded it, and placed it in the dry temporary storage area. Only then did she push open the glass door of the pet hospital and walk inside. What she saw in front of her were two men facing each other in silence.

They seemed to have reached some kind of tacit understanding: after seeing Zhou Jinqin, they had to hide their surging emotions and absolutely not reveal them in front of her.

Jia Yang smiled politely from a distance. Liang Minghe stepped forward, his broad shoulders completely obscuring the figure of the man behind him. He smiled and wiped the fine sweat from her forehead, asking her as usual if she was hot.

After the rain that had been hanging in the air finally began to fall, the stuffiness in the air eased considerably. Zhou Jinqin shook her head: "It's not hot, I just ran a little too fast."

She asked him curiously, "But what are you doing here?"

Liang Minghe answered without changing his expression: "I brought Tuantuan for a physical examination."

When Tuantuan was brought home, her heart and leg bones weren't particularly healthy, and the doctor specifically instructed her to have regular checkups to prevent any accidents. Although it hadn't been three months since the last checkup, Liang Minghe's caring behavior was truly beyond reproach. Moreover, Zhou Jinqin certainly understood his motives.

She glanced at the man behind her, not intending to dwell on the matter, and nodded in agreement: "Okay, I'll go check on the kitten I found this morning."

Jia Yang seemed to have been waiting for her to say that, and immediately led her to see the kitten.

The kitten was dozing in a glass box, its belly round and plump, and the secretions on its eyelids had been carefully cleaned.

Perhaps because it had finally had a good meal, the kitten slept soundly. Despite the wind, rain, thunder, and lightning outside, it remained undisturbed. It seems like an easy cat to care for.

Jia Yang explained, "The doctor said it's probably only half a month old. Apart from a minor fracture in its right hind leg that needs some rest, there aren't any other major problems."

Zhou Jinqin looked at him, her eyes as soft as water: "You've worked hard. Did I delay your work today? Judging from the series of messages you received today, I guess you were distracted and ran around here quite a bit."

Jia Yang stared at those eyes for a moment, then quickly looked away, lowered his eyes and shook his head: "It's alright, I just happen to be working at the hospital across the street today, so it's very close."

Seeing that her feelings of guilt had eased somewhat, Jia Yang gently continued, "Have you thought about how to settle this cat?"

“I already have a big cat at home, so it’s probably not good to keep it with a cat that’s too different in size. Besides, it’s hard to guarantee that I can treat them both equally. If possible, I’ll try to find it a home.” Zhou Jinqin stared at the kitten’s sleeping face and said gently, “It’s actually quite cute. I think a lot of people would like it.”

Jia Yang glanced at the cat Liang Minghe had just brought out. It was huge, completely different from the little kitten he had been talking about. He might just turn around and crush this little cat to death.

Zhou Jinqin was still preparing for the worst: "If no one really wants me, then my husband and I..."

"What do you think of me?" Jia Yang suddenly interrupted her. "Although I may not be as wealthy as Mr. Liang, I have saved up some money over the years, which I think should be enough to support a kitten."

Zhou Jinqin certainly didn't doubt his abilities; he was absolutely dedicated and hardworking in his work, and naturally earned a very considerable salary. However…

“Of course,” Zhou Jinqin asked with concern, “but won’t you be too busy with work?”

Jia Yang is very meticulous and patient, and he can certainly do a good job taking care of kittens. However, the nature of his job means that he will be traveling for work all year round, so he cannot spend too much time with them.

He thought for a moment and said, "It is indeed a problem, but my cousin and I are neighbors living on different floors. When I go on business trips, I can ask her to help look after my daughter occasionally. She is very kind and gentle, and my niece is almost exactly like her."

Thinking of that thoughtful and kind girl, Zhou Jinqin felt completely at ease. She smiled and said, "That's great. I'm sure you'll take good care of the kitten."

"You trust me that much? Then I certainly can't let you down." Jia Yang's previous tension relaxed a lot. "It's just that I really lack experience in raising cats. Although there were many cats in the village before, they were basically free-range, so there was no responsibility for raising them. Especially such a small kitten, it might still be a bit tricky for me. I guess I'll have to trouble you to give me more guidance later."

Zhou Jinqin said shyly, "Actually, I don't know much about it either. Tuantuan has only been with us for a few months, and most of the time my husband has been taking care of her at home..."

Liang Minghe glanced at the man in front of him, whose smile had faded, and then said meaningfully, "If Mr. Jia needs anything in the future, please feel free to contact me. I will definitely answer all your questions."

Jia Yang's smile didn't reach his eyes: "I'd rather not trouble Mr. Liang. I think it would be more appropriate to communicate directly with a more professional doctor."

He turned to look at Zhou Jinqin again: "Do you have any good names for this cat?"

"Ask me?" Zhou Jinqin opened her eyes wide. "Now that it's part of your family, I think it's more appropriate for you to name it, since it will be living with you for a long time."

Jia Yang said, "Speaking of which, you were the one who found it and gave it a second life. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call you its mother..."

“Mr. Jia, my wife’s own child is still here. Why are you saying such hurtful and divisive things?” Liang Minghe said softly, his tone cold and hard.

If this continues, it won't just hurt the cat's heart, so Zhou Jinqin quickly stepped in to smooth things over between the two.

She gently pulled Liang Minghe's hand to comfort him, while smiling slightly at Jia Yang: "You can tell from the name I gave Tuantuan that he's not exactly a refined person. You should leave this kind of thing to worry about yourself."

Jia Yang knew he had crossed the line uncontrollably today, so he pursed his lips, said nothing more, and nodded in agreement.

The kitten is fine and can be taken away today. Jia Yang wouldn't let Zhou Jinqin pay for the medical expenses, so she simply bought some cat toys, cat bowls, and litter boxes as gifts and sent them over.

Jia Yang was raising a cat for the first time, and he had a lot of things to take home today. The torrential rain outside made it difficult to move one hand, and it would take at least four or five trips to get the things into the car. Zhou Jinqin offered to help, but Liang Minghe declined on her behalf.

“Men should do this kind of hard work.” Liang Minghe tucked the cat into her arms, held the umbrella over her, and carried her and the cat to the car. “Sit here for a while, I’ll go help him.”

Two tall, strong men worked together and, after two trips, neatly packed the items into Jia Yang's car trunk.

Jia Yang gripped the driver's side door handle, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "I'd like to correct something you just said."

Liang Minghe raised his left eyebrow: "What? You want to deny that you've fallen for my wife?"

“No, I admit I like her.” Jia Yang said calmly, “But I want to correct your wording. I don’t like the character of your wife, but Zhou Jinqin as a person. It just so happens that Zhou Jinqin is your wife.”

"Bang!"

The car door was slammed shut, and the raindrops that had just fallen on the window were startled and fell down in a flurry, leaving behind thin, narrow lines of rain.

"What's wrong?" Zhou Jinqin carefully observed Liang Minghe's expression, frowning as she guessed, "You two had a fight? How did you get so angry in just two minutes?"

Liang Minghe curled his lip and said, "I can't be bothered to argue with him."

He turned to kiss Zhou Jinqin's lips, using some unreasonable force, and in an instant, he kissed the woman's soft lips until they were red and swollen.

"So you took your anger out on me?" Zhou Jinqin asked softly, looking pitiful, as if the destination of the falling raindrops was right in her eyes.

Liang Minghe shook his head and rubbed his forehead against her cheek like a cat: "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have, but I was just insanely jealous."

He couldn't bring himself to tell her what Jia Yang had just said; it would only cause her more trouble. Besides, what kind of behavior would it be to tell his wife that another man liked her...?

Zhou Jinqin could also guess the contradiction, and she herself was troubled, but there was really nothing she could do.

On one hand, Jia Yang's feelings for her were merely her own speculation, unconfirmed, and she couldn't possibly rush to ask, as that would only put her in an awkward position regardless of the outcome. On the other hand, even if Jia Yang did indeed have a crush on her as she suspected, it was best not to expose their relationship given their status; otherwise, they would only find themselves in a dilemma.

Zhou Jinqin sighed, scratched Liang Minghe's chin like she was teasing a cat, and said softly, "Actually, I didn't handle this well, which made you always worry and waste so much emotion."

“Isn’t it too unfair to punish the person who is loved?” Liang Minghe quickly composed himself and looked at her with bright, smiling eyes. “You don’t need to feel guilty. Your goodness is obvious to everyone. It’s normal for people to like you. It’s just that I sometimes lack self-confidence.”

Zhou Jinqin smiled helplessly: "Only you would praise me to the skies, saying that I am outstanding in every way. In fact, there are many more people in this world who are biased towards you. I should be the one who feels uneasy."

Liang Minghe kissed her forehead very solemnly: "Indeed, my appearance is very deceptive. If the outside world is really deceived by me and tilts the scales of our relationship towards me, it is only because they do not know you well enough."

"Do you know me well?" Zhou Jinqin wasn't questioning, but rather seeking an answer in an almost naive tone.

“Of course it’s not enough. I need a long time to get to know you.” Liang Minghe said frankly, “But I think I know you better than most people in the world and can describe your courage and beauty more comprehensively.”

Like the explosive thunderstorm, Zhou Jinqin's originally calm and empty heart trembled, enveloped in a thick dampness.

The knot in her eyes easily dissipated, and Zhou Jinqin smiled innocently with her eyes crinkling: "It seems like all my previous troubles are no longer needed."

"Hmm? What's troubling you?" Liang Minghe glanced at her while waiting for the red light.

"I'm worried about how to keep you from getting upset," Zhou Jinqin said with a smile. "But I seem to have overlooked the fact that you're such a generous husband."

Liang Minghe's lips curled up slightly upon hearing that unusual form of address, and he feigned displeasure, saying, "Actually, it's not that generous..."

Zhou Jinqin pretended not to understand what he wanted, and only said something else with her ears turning red: "What if I buy you a gift? Will you be more soft-hearted towards me?"

The gift Zhou Jinqin mentioned was a long black silk robe. She went to a shopping mall near the company at noon today to buy a gift for the company's anniversary event and happened to come across this new arrival. Looking at the unrestrained and flamboyant model's pose, she immediately felt that this dress was tailor-made for Liang Minghe, so she bought it on the spot.

Liang Minghe tried it on and praised everything from the material and color to the pattern and workmanship, even the insignificant length, giving the gift-giver a lot of face.

Held in his arms, Zhou Jinqin felt both amused and incredibly happy.

She poked his chest and muttered softly, "Is it really that good?"

Liang Minghe leaned back against the dresser, lowered his head to kiss her ear, and whispered some sultry love words in her ear.

"I'd probably be even better if you called me husband."

Zhou Jinqin's ears were almost bleeding. She placed her hands on the man's chest, her gaze wandering, and after a long while, she finally uttered in a muffled voice, "Husband... Husband."

She could call out without worry because this was her third month of regular menstruation, and Liang Minghe couldn't do anything excessive.

But she forgot that if someone has bad intentions, you can't stop them.

Liang Minghe pulled her little finger to his waist, and with a slight hook at the knot of his belt, the loose robe opened easily.

He looked at the lovely woman in front of him, who had almost forgotten to breathe, and smiled until his eyes were red. He reached out and pulled her close, wrapping her tightly in his bathrobe, sharing her warmth with him.

He deliberately chose his tone, making his husky voice sound just the right amount of sexy: "Baby, I think I'm more excited than I thought. Can I ask you for more?"

"What do you mean?" Zhou Jinqin asked him, her breathing uneven, her eyes watery, as if the water that had just gotten into them was about to overflow.

"During the National Day holiday, I want to spend all day with you, is that okay?" Liang Ming's soft, hot lips lingered around her eyes. "Is that okay? My dearest wife."
