Duanmu Ci, courtesy name Zigong, a native of the State of Wei in the late Spring and Autumn period, was a highly esteemed disciple of Confucius, who has lived for two thousand years.
He once ...
Duanmu Ci was unaware of these matters; otherwise, he would have scoffed inwardly. Those so-called linguists, of course, had deciphered some mystery, because "Luoyin" was a lost language.
That was the language spoken by the Zhou emperor in the Luoyang palace more than two thousand years ago, so Duanmu Ci called it "Luoyin" (洛音). However, people in that era called it "Yayan" (雅言), which is the standard Mandarin we know today. Confucius, far away in the State of Lu, would use "Yayan" when reading poetry and performing rituals, so it was a very solemn and dignified language.
Later, when Duanmu Ci was engaged in business activities in modern times, he often discovered that some people would use the dishonest means of "eavesdropping" to obtain important business secrets of their competitors. Therefore, for the sake of secrecy, Duanmu Ci began to teach important members and young talents of the Duanmu family to collectively learn "Luoyin" and strictly forbade its dissemination to maintain its effectiveness.
This move had an immediate and remarkable effect. Even in an era when eavesdropping devices were rampant and corporate espionage was shrouded in secrecy, the Duanmu family's business secrets were never leaked. This was considered a miracle by outsiders, with some even jokingly calling it an unofficial "eighth wonder of the world," comparable to the Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang.
Later, some large families also wanted to adopt this method and even sent people to a small tribe in Africa to learn the language. After learning it, they would then teach it within the company, but the result was disastrous.
One problem is the inability to guarantee the loyalty of company personnel. Another is that even after they learn the language, they don't consistently use it. In important situations or moments, they still habitually speak their original language, which means they've learned it for nothing.
Of course, the most important point is that even the smallest African tribes still exist on this earth. Linguists and volunteers passionate about protecting endangered civilizations have long since ventured into places like the African savanna and rainforest to explore isolated tribes and have made detailed records. In other words, the languages they learned in African tribes can be deciphered.
This is truly a perfect example of "trying to draw a tiger but ending up with a dog instead".
After this failed case, other families or companies that had originally considered this approach all gave up and abandoned this path. As a result, it became a unique skill of the Duanmu family, and later even the extreme claim that "a spy who can steal the Duanmu family's trade secrets can manage a company" spread.
However, this also shows the level of secrecy surrounding the Duanmu family's business. It is rumored that the two major state-level intelligence agencies, A and B, which have a long-standing feud, once regarded "whether they could steal the Duanmu family's business secrets" as the ultimate contest between the two, and the loser had to admit that they were inferior to the other party.
But the result was quite unexpected. Both A and FB, two internationally renowned spy agencies, suffered humiliating defeats under the ironclad defenses of the Duanmu family, becoming a dark chapter in their shared history...
I heard that the White House was furious about this, and the president, despite his busy schedule, took time out of his busy schedule to call the two shameful bureau chiefs together and give them a good scolding...
The topic has strayed quite a bit, so let's now turn our attention back to the Hilton Hotel in Haishan. We can clearly see that, led by Tang Ke, Duanmu Ci and Bu Tongxun have entered the lobby, waiting for the birthday banquet to begin.
