Chapter 38 Preparing to Drop a Nuclear Bomb

On the nearby streets, lights suddenly flickered on, warm yellow light streaming through the windows, bringing a subtle hint of life to the otherwise dead night. Some people couldn't wait to open their living room doors and walk out onto the balcony, curiously gazing in the direction of the gunfire.

"Ah!" A shrill, agonizing scream instantly pierced the night sky, a sound like a wailing from the depths of hell, a terrifying sound. The curious crowd, terrified, fled in panic, frantically extinguishing their lights, fearing the terrifying scene outside would affect them and bring them to their deaths. However, a few courageous souls remained on the balcony, their hearts pounding, their eyes wide as bells, eager to see the horrifying scene unfold.

Bullets crackled like popcorn. A soldier ran frantically, firing recklessly behind him. His breathing was as rapid as a bellows, his face filled with fear and despair. Sirens blared shrilly in the silent street, and red and blue lights flashed continuously, rushing towards them.

The people hiding on the balcony were shaking like sieves, their teeth chattering. They saw a group of tall, strange figures viciously chasing a soldier. Their eyes were bloodshot, as if they were about to bleed, and their bodies were stiff yet filled with a strange power. Their eyes were blank and lifeless, yet they exuded a chilling murderous intent, as if they were demons from the abyss.

Behind them, a horde of strange creatures frantically fought over something. From afar, one could be seen gnawing at a bloody thigh, the sight of its mangled flesh making one's stomach churn. Another attempted to snatch it, but was easily repelled. His body seemed increasingly agile, his movements less stiff and sluggish, devouring the thigh in a matter of seconds. The red glow in his eyes intensified, like a blazing fire, and his body became even more agile and swift. As if he had spotted new prey, he charged at the fleeing soldier like a wolf. His speed was so swift that he burst through the somewhat stiff-moving crowd in a flash, sending the frightened soldier stumbling and nearly falling.

"Roar! Roar!" Several deafening roars echoed from behind, the sound waves rolling like thunder. Several tall, strange men rushed out like ghosts, chasing him madly. Their footsteps were like dull thunder, echoing in the silent streets and shaking the ground slightly.

The sirens were getting closer and closer. Seeing the terrifying scene before their eyes, the police officers in several police cars turned pale and their hands holding their guns trembled slightly. But as their duty required, they still gritted their teeth and hurriedly got out of the cars and fired wildly at these terrifying weirdos.

A barrage of bullets rained down upon these monsters, instantly sending up dazzling sparks and resounding crashes. They seemed to possess bodies of steel; the bullets left only shallow marks on their bodies, inflicting no substantial damage. However, the barrage of bullets did manage to slow their advance somewhat. While the police fired furiously, they shouted at the soldier to hurry and get into the car. They needed to evacuate quickly while they figured out a countermeasure.

Horrifying scenes of various monsters attacking humans unfolded crazily throughout southern Hunan. No, it was more a bloody massacre of the mutated creatures against those who hadn't mutated yet. The scene was like the end of the world, a hell on earth. Their methods were utterly brutal and bloodthirsty, each attack laced with madness and brutality, as if dragging the entire world into an endless abyss of darkness. The more flesh and blood they devoured, the stronger their bodies became, the more powerful they became, and the more difficult they became to defeat.

The situation spiraled completely out of control overnight. Countless military and police officers suddenly lost contact while on duty, their communications equipment carrying only their final cries of terror and despair, a swan song from hell. Even the rapidly taking off and landing helicopters could not escape their fate, instantly torn apart and destroyed by the mutants' astonishing speed and power. The wreckage rained down, hitting the ground with a terrifying roar.

The entire Shonan region had become a living hell, swarming with mutant creatures. Streets, alleys, skyscrapers, parks, and squares were all filled with their hideous forms. A bloody stench filled the air, leaving one nauseated and reminiscent of a bloody slaughterhouse. Countless birds flew like dark clouds toward the outskirts of Shonan, their flapping wings stirring up gusts of wind, as if to spread the disaster even further, plunging the entire world into a vortex of terror.

The quarantine zone near southern Hunan also saw a devastating increase in mutations. The once peaceful and tranquil region was instantly plunged into chaos and utter panic. The entire Dragon Nation's leadership immediately mobilized a vast army, moving like a tidal wave. Armored vehicles and tanks roared towards southern Hunan like steel behemoths, forming an impenetrable iron barrier. The soldiers, their faces solemn, their eyes as resolute as a rock, their weapons firmly gripped, formed a powerful barrier outside southern Hunan, like gods of war protecting the world. They knew that the lives and homes of countless civilians were at stake. They must not allow these mutants to break through their defenses, even at the cost of their own lives.

Medical teams quickly arrived, racing against time to set up a makeshift treatment center, ready to respond to any injuries. Researchers frantically analyzed the mutants' characteristics, attempting to find a solution. Their foreheads were covered in sweat, their eyes focused and anxious. Supplies from across the country poured in like a torrent, and a desperate battle against the mutants began.
