Chapter 40 The Line of Defense is Broken

Although their bodies were broken and battered, the fierce gleam in their eyes remained undiminished, and instead, their injuries made them even more frantic and violent. Some had broken legs and struggled to crawl with their remaining limbs; others had lost half their bodies but continued to roar.

Academician Fang's face was solemn, and he spoke in a low voice, "This isn't a solution. Conventional weapons can do very little damage to them." Academician Chao Tian clenched his fists, "We must find a way to completely eliminate them as soon as possible, otherwise the consequences will be disastrous."

The situation grew increasingly dire, as countless flying mutant creatures broke through the defenses, flying everywhere like a dark cloud. Their shrill cries pierced the sky, bringing endless panic.

On the defensive line, brave soldiers fought desperately. They fired frantically with their machine guns, bullets pouring out like a torrential rain. The deafening roar of "da da da!" was still unable to stop the mutants' ferocious onslaught.

A soldier shouted, "Brothers, fight to the death!" Before he could finish his words, a massive mutant bird swooped down, its sharp claws instantly ripping his body apart. Blood splattered everywhere, and his comrades nearby were horrified, but they didn't flinch at all, firing even more frantically.

"Boom!" The shells exploded among the mutants, flames shot up into the sky, and some low-level mutants were blown to pieces. But more mutants were fearless and rushed forward one after another.

At this crucial moment, a row of three heavy particle pulse cannons in the distant military base slowly activated. Their barrels shimmered with a blend of pale blue and silver-white light, their energy cores humming as if gathering enough force to rend space. At the commander's command, the three cannons fired simultaneously. Three beams of particles, each as thick as a water tank, roared out like a raging dragon emerging from the sea, carrying devastating energy. The air in their path compressed to extremes, a deafening explosion echoed, and ripples of distortion spread across space. The beams precisely struck the swarm of mutants, their powerful energy instantly vaporizing them, leaving only a void. The surrounding mutants were swept away by the aftermath, as if tossed by an invisible giant hand. A large area was instantly cleared, and the remains of the mutants rained down in a shower of blood.

A commander roared at the top of his lungs, "Fire the missiles! We can't let them get past!" Quantum armor-piercing missiles roared out, shrouded in dark blue quantum energy patterns, tracing dazzling paths through the air. Upon impact, the quantum energy burst could penetrate the mutants' hard shells, disintegrating them from the inside. However, some flying mutants still managed to break through the defenses.

Some of the flying mutants were still stained with blood, their eyes filled with madness and greed. Wherever they passed, the wind howled, and people looked up in horror, staring at this doomsday scene, their hearts filled with despair and helplessness.

On the ground, the soldiers who had been holding the line watched the flying mutants fly away, anxious but helpless. Their faces were filled with fatigue and worry, knowing that if these monsters spread, they would bring unimaginable disasters.

Alarms sounded everywhere, people fled to shelters, and the whole world seemed to be plunged into chaos and despair.

Before the soldiers on the defense line could rest, the mutant creatures on the ground rushed towards the defense line like a tide, baring their fangs and roaring. The deafening roar was terrifying.

Armored vehicles armed with rapid-fire Gauss cannons lay across the defense line, their muzzles flashing with blinding lightning. "Boom, boom, boom!" Gauss shells fired at an incredibly high rate of fire, their powerful kinetic energy blasting through the swarm of mutants, unleashing a bloody hailstorm. Limbs flew everywhere, dust billowed in the air, but the fearless mutants, stepping over the corpses of their comrades, continued their frantic charge.

The soldiers formed a dense barrage, their submachine guns and machine guns blasting out streams of fire, their bullets whizzing towards the mutants. A massive mutant bear, its body riddled with bullet holes, charged forward. Without hesitation, a soldier raised his laser launcher. With a whoosh, the rocket, carrying a blazing laser beam, pierced the mutant bear, blasting it to pieces. The bear's blood gushed out like a fountain, staining the surrounding ground red.

However, the number of mutants was too great. As one wave fell, another rushed in. The defense line was crumbling under their onslaught.

At that moment, reinforcements arrived, bringing with them even more powerful firepower and equipment. Tanks roared forward, armed with antimatter shells. Upon contact with matter, these projectiles triggered an annihilation reaction, releasing unimaginable energy that blasted the mutants charging ahead into smithereens. Furthermore, the reinforcements brought with them a new laser weapon system. Dazzling laser beams, like blazing lightsabers, instantly pierced the mutants' bodies, cleaving them in two. The scalding red blood instantly evaporated under the intense heat, emitting a pungent odor. Simultaneously, several massive heavy bombers appeared from the sky. Their specially designed bombs exploded among the mutant swarms, unleashing a powerful energy wave that blasted the surrounding mutants, causing them to bleed profusely and instantly pulverize their bodies. The soldiers' resolute resistance repelled wave after wave of mutant attacks, leaving a mountain of corpses before their lines of defense. But the soldiers dared not relax, knowing the consequences of a breach.

Yu Kai, now in a desperate state, fled to a dilapidated town, where a dead silence and a terrifying atmosphere permeated the air. The entire village was filled with mutant creatures, stalking the streets like ghosts, searching for living things. The rich smell of blood filled the air, making one nauseated, as if they were in a bloody hell.
