He groped cautiously through a small supermarket, the crunching of debris beneath his feet making his heart leap into his throat. Finally, he found some food and water, clutching them tightly in his arms as if they were treasures. He hid in a cluttered corner, his body trembling slightly as he nervously observed his surroundings, racking his brain for a response.
He had just contacted Academician Fang and his team using the cashier's phone and learned that Zhu Bei'er was not dead, having been taken away by another wave of alien mechas and should be safe. This news comforted him slightly, but he had no time to dwell on it at the moment, as he was still deeply trapped in this terrible crisis.
His most pressing concern now was finding a way out, but the ferocious mutants outside made him incredibly difficult to deal with. Every time he heard the approaching footsteps or roars of a mutant, his breathing would involuntarily quicken. He clenched his fist around the iron rod, his only weapon, and his palms were wet with sweat.
At this moment, two mutant dogs rushed in frantically. Their sharp claws easily tore open Yu Kai's locked door, making a heart-pounding sound. Their fangs were exposed, their blood-red tongues kept sniffing the ground, and low snoring sounds came from their throats.
Yu Kai toppled the shelf, sending it careening down upon the two mutant dogs. These dogs, clearly highly evolved and extremely agile, dodged to the sides. Seizing the opportunity, Yu Kai charged forward, channeling all his spiritual energy into the iron rod, and slammed it down on the heads of the nearest mutant dogs. The immense force, accompanied by a whistling sound, shattered the dogs' heads, sending brains splattering and the stench of blood filling the air.
At that moment, another mutant dog roared angrily and lunged forward. Yu Kai immediately blocked it with an iron rod, but the mutant dog's bloody jaws sank directly into the rod. The terrifying force knocked Yu Kai to the ground, knocking down rows of shelves. Sundries and merchandise scattered all over the floor, making a crackling sound.
Yu Kai had no time to consider the pain. His eyes blazed red as he roared, leaping to his feet and gripping the mutant's neck tightly. He gritted his teeth, veins bulging on his forehead as spiritual energy surged through his arms, gleaming with light. With a snap, the struggling mutant's neck was snapped. But he didn't dare let go, clinging to the animal with a fierce grip, as if clinging to his own survival. He breathed heavily and observed his surroundings warily.
Two more roars rang out, a sound like the howling of hell, terrifying and chilling. They were accompanied by heavy footsteps as they rushed towards the supermarket. Yu Kai immediately stood up, muscles tensed, grabbed the blood-stained iron rod on the ground, and tried to flee.
