Nine Lives, Nine Worlds of Tribulation

Memories are like ever-blooming stone flowers, yet only the self believes them to be eternal. Ultimately, what they bring is the ruthlessness of reincarnation; perhaps no one will wait this time.

Chapter 530 One Step, One Paradise

Gu Tao spent several days at Thousand Absolute Fortress, but she still hasn't met the true owner of the fortress.

Looking out the window at the garden, mostly with its cool-colored flowers, Gu Tao felt her already heavy mood deepen. But what bothered her even more was that the windows looked like prison windows, with iron bars—were they trying to keep someone from escaping?

Thinking about it carefully, it can only be Gu Tao himself!

Thinking about being trapped here for who knows how long, Gu Tao sighed repeatedly, "When will this ever end!"

Feeling utterly bored, Gu Tao shifted her gaze to the books in the study. There were more than a dozen bookshelves, each with nine shelves. It was more like a library than a study.

Faced with so many books, Gu Tao had absolutely no interest in appreciating them!

"Young Master, it's time to eat." Gu Cheng took the food from the delivery slot and placed it on the table next to him, saying to Gu Tao.

Gu Tao glanced at the "delicacy" made of wild vegetables. The first time, she was too embarrassed to say it was bad. The second time, she pointed out that it was monotonous. After eating the same dish repeatedly for several days, Gu Tao finally couldn't help but say, "You guys are really unique in feeding your young master wild vegetables!"

Hearing the dissatisfaction in Gu Tao's tone, Gu Cheng immediately said, "Young Master, you may not know this, but these are all grown by ourselves, absolutely all-natural! Eating them can even enhance your physique!"

Gu Tao didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He didn't need to improve his physique; he just hoped that each of his three meals would be different, with a variety of flavors including sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, and salty!

"Just leave it there, I'll eat it before I starve to death!" Gu Tao waved her hand, looking disgusted.

"Then, I'll leave it here," Gu Cheng said respectfully.

"I say, you seemed to have some feelings before, how come you look like you're being slaughtered now? You're actually not that old, are you?" Gu Tao said, sizing up Gu Cheng.

Gu Cheng had no wrinkles on his face, only his hair was slightly gray.

Gu Cheng smiled and said, "I was unaware of your identity when I spoke with you earlier, so please forgive me for any offense I may have caused." He then bowed respectfully to Gu Tao.

"No, no, no, don't flatter me like that. I'm still a child, I can't accept that!" Gu Tao hurriedly avoided him and kept her distance.

Gu Cheng smiled and took a step back, no longer being polite, but fell silent.

"Butler, I'm really, really curious, what is the identity of the owner of this house? You've mistaken me for the young master, wouldn't that be too embarrassing!" Gu Tao said.

“Young Master, the head of Thousand Absolute Fortress has always been Lord Ancient Fox King. As for you, Young Master, we are certain that we have not mistaken you, because we have seen your photo in the Thousand Absolute Fortress’s family tree,” Gu Cheng said.

Gu Tao looked at Gu Cheng in surprise. "Family tree? Where is it? Can I see it?"

"The family tree has been put away by the master, and I don't know where it is," Gu Cheng said.

"Your way of addressing me isn't right either. Why do you call me Young Master one minute, then say my father is the head of the family, and then there's this 'Master'?" Gu Tao was full of questions.

“The head of the family is your father, so you are the young master. As for ‘Master’, it’s a respectful title for an elder. We only know that you are related as family members, but we don’t know the specifics,” Gu Cheng explained.

"Oh! So where did this master go? When will he be back?" Gu Tao asked eagerly. "If he doesn't come back in a few more days, I'm leaving!"

Gu Tao didn't want to waste any more time here. Regardless of whether he could get out or not, he was determined to break down the doors and windows and escape!

Upon hearing this, Gu Cheng hurriedly said, "Please be patient and wait a few more days, young master. Master will really be back soon!"

"You keep saying that, but give me a definite answer on how many more days I'll be here! I can wait, but my father and mother can't! I've been out for so long now, they must be worried sick!" Gu Tao said anxiously. "Oh, right, why don't you call them and tell them I'm here? That way, my father, your patriarch, will be here too!"

Gu Cheng thought for a moment and nodded. "Alright, then may I ask, young master, what is the family head's mobile phone number?"

Gu Tao's face darkened, and she was immediately dumbfounded. She stammered awkwardly, "I...I forgot to ask for their phone number..."

After leaving the Quanjiu Orphanage, Gu Tao didn't have a cell phone, so she didn't ask for a phone number. When she needed it, she really messed things up!

Gu Cheng said helplessly, "Then there's nothing we can do. Young Master, please wait patiently."

Gu Tao stomped her feet in anger and said, "Wait, wait, wait! It's so boring to keep waiting in this room!"

Gu Tao's eyes darted around as she pleaded with Gu Cheng, "Butler, please think of a way, is there any other way to get out?"

"To be honest, young master, the master was afraid you wouldn't want to wait here and would try to sneak out, so he had me bring you into the study. The study door is equipped with a mechanism, so you can only enter but not exit. The windows also have special steel bars, so there's no way to get out either." Gu Cheng knew Gu Tao was getting impatient, but he still patiently said, "Young master, actually, I'm also quite troubled here. After all, I'm managing Thousand Absolute Fortress all by myself. If there were any other way, I would also like to get out!"

Hearing Gu Cheng say this, Gu Tao completely gave up, hanging her head and saying, "Alright, it seems we can only wait like this."

Bored, Gu Tao listened to the ticking clock in the study and pondered its rhythm. She stretched out her right hand to Gu Cheng and said, "Butler, do you have a cell phone? Can I borrow yours to play with?"

Gu Cheng smiled and said, "If the young master really feels bored, playing on your phone is fine too."
