Chapter 173 Strange

The people in their camp were very excited. After all, the bandits were either dead or captured, and they had finally regained their freedom and could live like human beings again.

The prisoners in District 1 were the main force in killing the bandits. They also collected all the supplies and equipment in the town. However, they had already informed everyone that this was only to maintain order and life in the town, and that there would be no more bandits oppressing them in the future.

That evening, to celebrate everyone's newfound freedom, the kitchen prepared a hearty bowl of meat soup noodles, complete with flatbread. With their stomachs full, everyone was in even better spirits.

After the lights were blown out, everyone lay in bed, still discussing how brave those people from District One had been that day. Now that their town had firearms and a group of powerful people from District One were protecting them, they probably wouldn't be bullied anymore.

Song Xian lay on the bed, but he was unusually silent. Li Jia was not mentioned in the conversations of these people, as if he had never been to this town at all. Song Xian was certain that the people in the town were saved because of the help of Brother Li Jia.

Brother Li told him not to mention him. He admired Brother Li's selfless act of doing good deeds, but he also felt a little wronged for him. Everyone thanked everyone in District 1, but no one knew who had really helped them.

His companions asked him why he had come back. He made up a lie, saying that he had walked a long way but hadn't seen a single person or found anything to eat. He was afraid of starving to death outside, so he rode back on a bicycle he had found by chance, hoping that at least he could get some soup if he came back.

After hearing his words, no one doubted him. When they fled here, they knew that apart from the city shelter below, there was indeed no one around. They had found that there was no one around when they went out to look for supplies in the cold winter.

The next morning, Song Xian rode his bicycle up the mountain again, carrying an iron shovel. He was still thinking about burying Pang Hu first. He couldn't explain his own feelings, but he couldn't bear to let the body rot in the air, perhaps because he was the one who killed that person.

When Song Xian arrived at the location, he was startled to see the burlap sack on the ground. The sack, which should have been bulging, was lying flat on the ground, with some bloodstains on it, left from yesterday, but it was clear that there was no one inside.

Song Xian's heart pounded wildly. Could it be that Fatty Tiger wasn't dead? But he had delivered the final blow to Fatty Tiger's vital points, and in the end, he had confirmed that the man was no longer breathing.

With his hands and feet ice-cold, Song Xian hugged the shovel and carefully examined the burlap sack's seal. He then discovered that the sack was still properly tied, the same way he had left it when he left last night.

Feeling a bit strange, Song Xian carefully used a shovel to pry open the sack and discovered that although it was flat, there seemed to be something inside, and it was quite heavy.

No matter what's inside, Song Xian wouldn't dare open it to check by himself. Moreover, because he couldn't expose Brother Li's existence, he couldn't bring anyone else with him. This matter had to be handled by him alone.

Gritting his teeth, Song Xian began digging a hole near the sack. Because the sack was flat, he didn't dig the hole very deep. When he felt it was about right, he used a shovel to put the sack into the hole, covered it with soil, and then, still not satisfied, used the shovel to firmly tamp it down.

Then he carefully returned to the cave where he had been hiding. After confirming that there was nothing unusual in the cave with an iron shovel, he put away the sleeping bag and tent that Li Ke had left him, tied them to the car, and drove it back.
