Chapter 27

The riverside night view is beautiful and enchanting, and the evening breeze brings a sense of tranquility and romance.

Hearing Kuang Ye's slightly resentful tone, Jiang Wanwan quickly denied it, "How could that be? I was just afraid of delaying your business."

Kuang Ye looked at the woman's anxious explanation and a sly glint flashed in his eyes. He pretended to glance at his phone and said with a smirk, "They left a long time ago. Sister, you have to buy me a late-night snack."

Immediately afterwards, Kuang Ye told Jiang Wanwan that it was a gathering of colleagues from their barbershop today, and he went to the restroom halfway through the meal, only to be used as a shield by Jiang Wanwan.

"I'm still not full." Kuang Ye put his hand on his stomach and rubbed it, looking innocent and pitiful.

Seeing the wronged look in his eyes, and considering that he had just helped her, Jiang Wanwan felt even more guilty. "Okay then, what do you want to eat?"

She asked the man about his tastes. Although she hadn't eaten much at the restaurant, she was disgusted by the fat man and still had no appetite.

Upon hearing this, Kuang Ye's eyebrows curved upwards. "Sister, let's go eat barbecue."

Jiang Wanwan naturally had no objection to Kuang Ye's simple request.

The two arrived at a nearby food street, which was obviously more lively and the prices were very reasonable.

After entering, Kuang Ye pointed to a barbecue restaurant and called out to Jiang Wanwan, "Sister, let's go to this one."

It was a street food stall with more than a dozen tables set up along the street, each with a white plastic chair. Even though it was already eight or nine o'clock in the evening, it was still packed.

Jiang Wanwan looked at the several large pots placed at the entrance of the shop, filled with edamame, peanuts and other foods, which looked very tempting.

"Okay." She hadn't felt hungry at first, but the aroma of barbecue instantly made her hungry.

When they arrived at the food stall, they found that a table in front of them had just been vacated. The waiter warmly invited them to sit down and handed them menus.

Kuang Ye slightly raised his chin, pointed in Jiang Wanwan's direction, and gestured for the waiter to give her the menu.

Jiang Wanwan didn't stand on ceremony and ordered several of her favorite dishes.

Lamb skewers, chicken gizzards, beef tendon, foil-wrapped tofu pudding... The waiters kept writing down their orders. They still use the traditional way of ordering, so the waiters have to write down the names of the dishes by hand.

"Is there anything else you'd like to eat?" Jiang Wanwan looked up, pushed the menu forward, and spread it out in front of Kuang Ye.

Unexpectedly, Kuang Ye didn't even look at it and said directly, "Add 20 oysters and two pitchers of beer."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Wanwan looked at the man in surprise, "20! Can you eat them all?"

Adhering to the principle of "clean plate" (meaning finishing all food on one's plate), she has always opposed wasting food.

Kuang Ye's thin lips curled slightly, and he winked meaningfully, teasingly saying, "Don't you know that oysters are a treasure to men?"

"Why?" Jiang Wanwan stared at the man with her clear eyes, puzzled.

Kuang Ye didn't reply, but instead gave her a knowing look.

The waitress couldn't help but laugh and offered an explanation: "Oysters can nourish yin and kidneys, which is indeed good for men."

Jiang Wanwan didn't like seafood, so she didn't know much about it. Only after hearing what the waiter said did she understand what Kuang Ye meant.

Two blushes immediately rose to her fair cheeks, and her expression became somewhat unnatural, so she quickly changed the subject, saying, "Then...why did you order two pitchers of beer? I don't want to drink."

Kuang Ye raised his thick eyebrows, his eyes showing a hint of regret. "Ah? This shop's beer is homemade, so it seems I'll have to enjoy it myself."

Barbecue and beer have been a perfect combination for diners since ancient times.

Jiang Wanwan isn't drinking today, mainly because she has to go to work tomorrow and is afraid of getting drunk.

Hearing Kuang Ye say that, even though she knew he was using reverse psychology, she was still tempted.

Just as Kuang Ye was about to tell the waiter to order one less draft beer, she quickly said, "Wait a minute! Then... I'll try it too. I want to see how good it is."

Kuang Ye looked at the woman's adorable, haughty appearance, a faint smile appearing in his eyes, and his fingers unconsciously tapped the table.

"Alright, please wait a moment." The waiter smiled, closed his notebook, and turned to go to the kitchen.

Amidst the bustling noise of the surrounding city at night, one could feel a completely different sense of peace and tranquility.

A short while later, all the ordered dishes were served.

When the last two draft beers were placed on the table, Jiang Wanwan's jaw nearly dropped when she saw the two enormous glasses.

This...this is way too big!

However, it does look delicious, with a clear and bright color and a faint wheat aroma that makes one's mouth water.

The bubbles in the beer kept rising. Jiang Wanwan took a big gulp, smacked her lips after drinking, and then her eyes lit up.

"It's delicious!" Her eyes widened, like a contented kitten, as she looked at the man opposite her with approval.

If it weren't for Kuang Ye's recommendation, she would have really missed out on this great product.

Kuang Ye raised his eyebrows, raised his glass, and clinked it against Jiang Wanwan's. "I wasn't lying to you, was I? Isn't this better than your fried rice?"

The mention of fried rice made Jiang Wanwan feel a bit amused. For some reason, she suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to vent and began to unleash her rant.

"You have no idea, my mom insists I go on a blind date, and she even said it's a handsome guy, I really..."

The woman talked as she drank, and in the blink of an eye, most of the wine in her glass had disappeared. As if encouraged by the alcohol, she spoke with increasing enthusiasm.

Jiang Wanwan did most of the talking, while Kuang Ye listened quietly, occasionally chiming in with a joke, which made the two of them laugh heartily.

The food on the table gradually decreased, and Jiang Wanwan let out a hiccup from drinking. The glass beside her was now empty.

"Waiter, the bill!" she waved to the waitress, then started rummaging through her bag for her phone, ready to pay.

Jiang Wanwan searched for a long time but couldn't find her phone, and her expression changed instantly.

"Oh no, I... I lost my phone."

She bit her lip, opened her big, watery eyes, and looked up at the man opposite her, her eyes filled with panic and grievance.

Kuang Ye observed the woman's every move, his forehead twitching. "Look at what you're holding."

He thought Jiang Wanwan was a good drinker because she was drinking so heartily, but he didn't expect that she was just pretending to be good, and was actually drunk and starting to act stupid.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Wanwan looked down at her hands and said, "Oh, so you were here."

She chuckled and talked to herself on her phone.

Kuang Ye's lips twitched slightly, and he immediately took out his phone to scan the code to pay.

Upon seeing this, Jiang Wanwan suddenly stood up, startling the older man at the next table.

She darted forward and appeared beside Kuang Ye, snatching his phone away. "I'll pay! No... you don't need to pay, I promised to treat you."

Jiang Wanwan quickly scanned the code to pay, her movements fluid and seamless, her charming demeanor causing the waiter to smile.

Before leaving, the waiter jokingly said to Kuang Ye, "You're a lucky guy." He rarely sees girls vying to pay the bill these days.

Over here, Jiang Wanwan had somehow gotten to sit on a large round bench by the roadside. When she saw Kuang Ye's gaze, she even waved at him with a silly smile.

Kuang Ye chuckled upon seeing this, and surprisingly did not refute the waiter's joke.

He turned and walked towards Jiang Wanwan, intending to take the little drunkard home.

Looking at the woman's obedient appearance, Kuang Ye's heart skipped a beat. He lowered his eyelashes, and his eyes were filled with hidden emotions.

If he hadn't known Jiang Wanwan's alcohol tolerance, he would have been fooled by her current state.

Even when drunk, Jiang Wanwan remained perfectly normal, even becoming more docile and charming, making one want to destroy and ravage her.

"Let's go, sister, I'll take you home."

Kuang Ye pulled the woman up from the round stool and asked her where she lived.

Because tomorrow is Monday and she has to go to work, Jiang Wanwan immediately gave the address of her public rental housing.

Seeing the woman's unguarded demeanor, Kuang Ye chuckled mischievously, "Sister trusts me so much, aren't you afraid I'm a bad person?"

Jiang Wanwan was stunned by his words, staring blankly at the man, her eyes filled with surprise and doubt. "You...you would lie to me?"

She hates being lied to more than anything in her life; even a white lie makes her feel very uncomfortable.

Kuang Ye's lips curled into a smile, his face full of mockery. "That's hard to say. Who can blame him when his sister is so adorable? Even a gentleman might turn into a villain."

Jiang Wanwan realized the other person was teasing her. She pouted and pretended to be fierce, saying, "Then I'll turn him from a baby into a eunuch!"

Upon hearing the woman's words, Kuang Ye's expression turned somewhat strange for a moment, but he quickly burst into laughter, laughing until tears streamed down his face.

"Hahaha, how can you be so funny? You're killing me with laughter."

Kuang Ye clutched his stomach, trying to relieve the stomach pain caused by laughing.

Jiang Wanwan seemed not to understand why the other person was laughing, but seeing the man laughing so heartily, she slowly smiled as well.

The taxi horn rang out, successfully stopping the two people from bursting into laughter.

Kuang Ye had just called a taxi on his phone. He opened the car door for Jiang Wanwan and let her get in first, then he sat in the back seat himself.

Through the car window, the night view on both sides rushed past, as if a movie had been sped up, making you want to hold onto the beauty of the story, yet unable to suppress your desire to know the ending.

The place where Jiang Wanwan rented a room in the snack street was not far away. The driver drove the car to the entrance of the community in about fifteen minutes.

"Driver, let's stop here." Kuang Ye said to the driver, looking at the brightly lit supermarket in the distance.

The car was parked on the side of the road, and Jiang Wanwan and Kuang Ye got out.

Kuang Ye stood under the streetlight and said to the woman in the white dress, "Sister, wait for me a moment, I'm going to the supermarket."

Jiang Wanwan nodded. Although she didn't know what he wanted to buy, she let him go.

Seeing the woman's obedient demeanor, Kuang Ye smiled and turned to jog towards the supermarket.

The orange streetlights shone on Jiang Wanwan, making her look as if she were draped in a shimmering veil, especially when paired with her sparkling, watery eyes, making one want to commit a crime.

Danger often strikes unexpectedly. Two men suddenly emerged from a dark alley not far away. They walked unsteadily and were carrying bottles of liquor, clearly two drunkards.

When they saw the woman under the streetlight, their eyes instantly lit up with lust. After exchanging a glance, they immediately walked towards Jiang Wanwan.
