Chapter 65 Unwavering Love (Part 9)

She and Song Lei inquired about the base again, learning that there were quite a few people with superpowers there, and that they were even divided into levels, which surprised her. She didn't know which level her strength should belong to, but she found it rather interesting. She asked, and since it wasn't exactly a secret, Song Lei didn't hide anything from her.

There are many superhumans in the Rising Sun Base, most of whom are from the military, and the entire base is guarded and protected by the military. Song Lei is also a military personnel; he awakened wind-type superhuman abilities and is a strong member of the military.

That's why they were sent to clear out the zombies in the farmland.

Who knew that they would suffer a crushing defeat upon emerging from the fields? No one could have imagined that a high-level zombie would appear in what appeared to be an empty farmland.

Thinking of that incredibly powerful zombie, Song Lei's gaze darkened, and he looked at Ah Xuan.

“That gentleman was very powerful,” he said fairly to Nan Lan. “I have to thank him; if it weren’t for him, we would probably be dead by now.”

That zombie was practically invulnerable; bullets and supernatural abilities struck it without causing the slightest harm, only enraging the already ferocious creature. Song Lei, confident in his newfound power after awakening his abilities, resigned himself to his fate under the zombie's overwhelming attack, closing his eyes to await death. But then, Ah Xuan suddenly appeared and crushed the zombie's skull in one swift motion.

Song Lei was dumbfounded. He had followed Ah Xuan all the way here in order to figure out what was going on.

It turns out he's all bark and no bite, far inferior to Ah Xuan.

Nan Lan smiled outwardly, but inwardly she felt a surge of disdain.

She gave Ah Xuan an approving look.

The zombies hated her the most, so they turned their heads away, pretending not to see her, and even taught themselves to adjust their sunglasses.

"Wow, that's amazing!" Shen Wangshu asked with a smile, feeling quite proud.

Ah Xuan mumbled twice, then suddenly seemed to remember something and hurriedly took out a crystal core from his pocket.

This crystal core is crystal clear. Although its quality is not as good as the one that Shen Wangshu absorbed after upgrading, it is not much different.

The crystal core was bright and clean, without a trace of blood, clearly having been diligently wiped clean by the zombies before being given to Shen Wangshu.

Ah Xuan presented the crystal core to Shen Wangshu like a treasure, and seeing her smile as she accepted it into her arms, his mind immediately began to wander with interest.

He enjoyed seeing Shen Wangshu's smiling face. Since she liked crystal cores, he could go and collect more.

As long as... she keeps smiling at herself.

The zombie let out a soft growl.

Without hesitation, he handed the crystal core to Shen Wangshu. Song Lei was stunned for a moment, then said in a low voice, "You may not know, but the crystal core can help you advance your superpowers."

He feared these people might be wasting precious resources because they didn't know the uses of the crystal cores, but seeing Nan Lan's indifferent expression, he guessed they probably already knew. He noticed Shen Wangshu's gaze was fixed solely on Ah Xuan, seemingly uninterested in anyone else, and a hint of amusement appeared in his eyes. He gave Shen Wangshu a deep look and said to Nan Lan, "We're about to return to the base, why don't we go together?"

"Then I'll have to trouble you, Brother Song," Nan Lan said slowly.

She nodded slightly to Shen Wangshu, clearly having her own ideas.

Shen Wangshu didn't think there was anything wrong with it. Going into the base with Song Lei, who seemed to have a lot of connections, would also save Ah Xuan from being searched. It was a really good deal.

Only Ah Xuan let out a soft roar.

He keenly sensed that this unpleasant food made him feel threatened.

However, he tilted his head slightly, did nothing to Song Lei, and instead looked around in confusion.

He felt a sense of familiarity with the scene, and the overgrown weeds inexplicably made his hands itch. He rubbed his face against Shen Wangshu's, and seeing her nod, he darted off. Shen Wangshu saw him disappear in the blink of an eye, his lively charm was adorable. She looked tenderly in the direction where Ah Xuan had disappeared, and sensing Song Lei's gaze, she subconsciously turned her head, frowned, and turned her back to the man.

He looked so much like Shen Xuan that it stirred up many memories of Shen Xuan in her mind.

But when she saw this similar face, she felt no emotion at all.

What she loved was not Ah Xuan's appearance, but his soul.

It sounds sentimental, but Shen Wangshu felt it was his true feeling.

"Miss Ning," Song Lei said, his expression softening as he approached Shen Wangshu. "You can call me Song Lei."

"Hello, hello, hello!" His focused gaze made Shen Wangshu a little unhappy, and she had no intention of talking to him. Just when the atmosphere was a little awkward, Ning's father stepped forward from the side without hesitation.

He rubbed his thigh, which his zombie son-in-law had been massaging so hard, and said with a polite but insincere smile, "I'm Rou Rou's father. Nephew Song, you can call me Uncle Ning." He subtly puffed out his chest and rubbed his hands together under Song Lei's slightly furrowed brows, asking, "Um... I wonder if the base provides enough food? Are there any big houses?"

He looked worried about having enough to eat and wear, and with a few words he pulled Song Lei aside.

Shen Wangshu's lips twitched as she looked at her father, who was going all out, and coughed without saying a word.

She was indeed a bit impolite, but when she saw that Ah Xuan was unhappy, she felt that her impoliteness didn't matter.

Are we going to make Ah Xuan uncomfortable and feel abandoned just for the sake of hypocritical favors?

“Uncle, there’s no need to worry. The base is well-stocked.” Shen Wangshu’s indifference and aloofness only deepened Song Lei’s gaze.
