A certain woman, for some inexplicable reason, became bound to an arrogant and deceptive system. She transmigrates into the bodies of cannon fodder characters in various worlds, fulfilling their wi...
Pushing open the office door, one sees Bai Ying, the department head; Wang Hua, the department manager; and two other executives specifically responsible for investigating the game data leak: Huang Pu, a man in his mid-thirties, and Zhang Qitian, a man in his forties.
When Xiang Wan went in, they were discussing something, but they all fell silent when they saw her.
Apart from Bai Ying nodding to her to reassure her, the other three people were basically looking at Xiang Wan with the same scrutinizing gaze one would give a suspect.
"Please sit down. We have some questions for you."
The executive surnamed Huang, who was sitting in the middle opposite, spoke first, holding a paper and pen in his hand, which was covered with dense writing.
Xiang Wan has excellent eyesight. With just a glance, she saw many names, including many of her colleagues and people from Men Qing's side.
Looking around, Xiang Wan didn't sit down as he had said. Instead, she went to Wang Hua's side and said, "Manager Wang, why wasn't there any surveillance footage of such a big incident?"
The meeting room is next to Wang Hua's office, and he uses it most often, so he's essentially in charge of it. Xiang Wan's question is therefore understandable.
Wang Hua doesn't usually like employees like Xiang Wan who only come when they have something to do, always feeling that such employees are likely to corrupt the company's atmosphere.
But Xiang Wan and the others were specially hired by the company, and although he didn't say it on the surface, he actually looked down on them a little.
Xiang Wan hadn't met him often and didn't try to curry favor. This time, her words were rather blunt, which made Wang Hua feel like he was offending her. A flash of displeasure crossed his eyes, but he quickly concealed it and said earnestly, "We usually don't install surveillance cameras in the conference room. Meetings are about discussing company secrets, and there's a risk of leaks if we're not careful. As a company employee, you should understand that."
By saying this, he was essentially telling her that the company would not disclose the data breach, and that it was doing its utmost to protect employee privacy, showing that it was for the employees' benefit.
However, from another perspective, it could cause great distress to employees.
Because the meeting content is not public, anyone who enters will be perceived as having problems. If someone with ulterior motives adds fuel to the fire, the employees will have no way to clear their names.
The company would never hold an all-staff meeting to publicly clarify something just because of a small employee.
At this point, the employee suspected by others will either have exceptional mental fortitude, persevere, and prove them wrong with their performance, or they will face exclusion, succumb to the pressure, and resign voluntarily. At this point, the person who was truly sabotaging the situation behind the scenes will have no further worries, because the departing employee has automatically taken the blame for them.
This is the cruelty of competition among company employees. Those who remain in the company in the end, regardless of right or wrong, are the biggest beneficiaries, and the company suffers no loss. The only ones who are harmed are those who are no longer considered company employees. Everyone is happy.
Xiang Wan nodded, pulled out a chair, and sat down opposite him.
"I can't control what others do, but I can record it, right?"
Xiang Wan said this to Huang Pu, who had initially asked her to sit down, and Zhang Qitian, who had remained silent until now.
They frowned, exchanged glances, and Zhang Qitian said, "We're just asking you a few questions as part of the procedure, don't be nervous."
"Manager Zhang, it's not that I'm being cynical, but it's about being fully prepared, just in case. What do you think?"
Having said all that, Huang Pu and Zhang Qitian exchanged a glance and tacitly approved of her actions.
Positioning her phone where it could capture everyone's image, Xiang Wan straightened her clothes, cleared her throat, and said, "I'm ready. We can begin."
Huang Pu took out a blank sheet of paper and began to ask questions.
"Xiang Wan, you've been with the company for almost three years. What are your thoughts on your current position?"
Xiang Wan smiled reservedly and asked in a low voice, "Can I say whatever comes to mind?"
The other party nodded, and Xiang Wan narrowed her eyes, saying, "I am a professional e-sports player, only interested in games and skills. I have participated in many competitions, big and small, and have won a lot of honors for the company. Logically speaking, the company should not doubt me, unless someone does not want me to win, or if my victory would not benefit them."
"To put it bluntly, in any competition I participate in, I basically win without any effort, or at worst, it's a draw."
"I believe you all saw the results of my competition during the two days I was hospitalized. Compared to teamwork, I prefer playing solo. Because that way, I can control the outcome, unlike team competitions where there is no unity and someone is always dragging the team down."
"Of course, I don't know what they're thinking. All I know is that my colleagues have many friends, while I always work alone, which isn't good, don't you think?"
His words, from initial self-praise to later self-examination, were on completely different levels.
Huang Pu didn't seem to mind; he wrote down Xiang Wan's words on a piece of white paper without even looking up.
Zhang Qitian then focused his gaze on Xiang Wan, as if trying to find a flower in her.
Seeing that neither of them seemed inclined to ask questions, Wang Hua decided to bring the conversation to the forefront. "On the day of your car accident, from the moment you entered the company until you left, tell us every detail: who you met, what you said, what you did—everything, big or small. Tell us as much as you can. You know why we called you here. Time is limited, so don't make us work for nothing."
After he finished speaking, Huang Pu, who was engrossed in writing, looked up at him and then lowered his head to continue writing furiously.
Zhang Qitian glanced at Wang Hua with some surprise, then at Xiang Wan, seemingly deep in thought.
