Rebirth 1983: I'll Make the Ungrateful Children Kneel and Beg for Mercy

Su Jianguo took his last breath on his sickbed, still hearing the quarrel of his five children fighting over 300,000 yuan for surgery fees.

When he opened his eyes again, he had returned to t...

Chapter 136 Deciding to Lie to Su Mingqiang for Life

Li Jinhua peeked out from the kitchen.

Wash your hands and eat. I made your favorite dish today.

Su Mingqiang nodded mechanically and took off his work clothes, which were covered in sawdust, and hung them behind the door.

His gaze swept across the living room.

The chest of drawers that had been sold has returned, not the original mahogany one, but a brand new white lacquered piece of furniture.

The sofa has also been replaced; it went from fabric to genuine leather. Although it's not big, it looks very expensive.

There was a plate of washed apples on the coffee table; they were bright red and looked delicious.

Out of guilt towards Su Mingqiang, Li Jinhua didn't skimp on money this time.

"What are you standing there for?"

Li Jinhua came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of braised pork, the steaming, dark brown pieces of meat trembling slightly in the bowl.

"Go wash your hands."

Su Mingqiang then came to his senses and ran to the bathroom.

The man in the mirror had a clean-shaven beard and neatly trimmed hair, making him look completely different from the drunken homeless man he had been before.

He scooped up some water and washed his face; the icy tap water sent a shiver down his spine.

This is not a dream.

On the dining table, Li Jinhua had already served two bowls of rice.

She was wearing a light pink loungewear set today, her hair loosely tied back, revealing her fair neck.

"Try it, how's the saltiness?"

Li Jinhua picked up a piece of braised pork with alternating layers of fat and lean meat and put it in his bowl.

Su Mingqiang took a bite, and the oil burst in his mouth, the sauce was rich and the meat was tender and juicy.

"tasty."

He mumbled something and then shoveled another mouthful of rice into his mouth.

"It tastes even better than what you get in restaurants."

Li Jinhua smiled.

"Eat slowly if it's delicious, no one's going to take it from you."

There was only a small half bowl of rice in her own bowl, and she had barely touched it.

Why aren't you eating?

Su Mingqiang asked.

"I haven't had much of an appetite lately."

As Li Jinhua was speaking, she suddenly covered her mouth and gagged, her face turning deathly pale instantly.

Su Mingqiang quickly put down his chopsticks.

"What's wrong? Is there something wrong with the meat?"

"fine."

Li Jinhua waved her hand and forced a smile.

"I'm probably just too tired lately."

She got up, poured herself a glass of warm water, and sipped it slowly.

Su Mingqiang looked at his wife with concern, then suddenly remembered something.

"By the way, where did you get the money to buy all this new furniture?"

Li Jinhua's fingers tightened on the glass.

"The money you got from selling your job, plus my salary this month..."

Her gaze drifted out the window.

"This house can't stay empty forever."

Su Mingqiang lowered his head in guilt.

"It's all my fault..."

"Let's not talk about that."

Li Jinhua interrupted him and reached out to cover the back of his hand.

"Let's eat."

After dinner, Li Jinhua invited Su Mingqiang to come inside and rest. She then washed the dishes and brought him a basin of water to wash his feet.

Su Mingqiang had never received such treatment before; he felt as if he were living in a dream.

the next day.

People's Hospital.

In the corridor of the obstetrics and gynecology department, Li Jinhua clutched the examination report, her face deathly pale.

The smell of disinfectant stung her eyes, and the doctor's stern voice echoed in her ears.

"Ms. Li, your uterine wall is naturally thin. If you have an abortion this time, it will probably be very difficult for you to get pregnant again."

"Isn't there any other way?"

She remembers her voice trembling uncontrollably at the time.

The old doctor pushed up his glasses.

"From a medical perspective, I recommend that you keep the baby. Of course, the decision is yours."

Li Jinhua stood in front of the bathroom mirror, looking at the pale-faced woman inside.

She gently stroked her flat stomach, where a life was growing—but it wasn't her husband's.

Why are you doing this to me?

She silently questioned herself in front of the mirror.

The woman in the mirror did not answer, but simply looked back at her with the same pained gaze.

That evening, Li Jinhua stayed in the bathroom for a long time.

Hot water washed over her body, and the steam blurred the mirror.

She carefully calculated the dates.

The last time she shared a room with Su Mingqiang was a month before Zhang Haiyang's affair.

If she says the baby was born late, she might be able to get away with it.

"Jin Hua? Are you alright?"

Su Mingqiang asked with concern from outside the door.

Li Jinhua turned off the tap.

"It's okay, I'll be done soon."

She dried herself off and looked at her blurry silhouette in the mist. A plan gradually took shape in her mind.

"Mingqiang, I have some news to tell you."

At the breakfast table on the weekend, Li Jinhua put down her chopsticks, her expression serious.

Su Mingqiang was eating a steamed bun when he heard this. He looked up, a little bit of fermented bean curd still stuck to the corner of his mouth.

"What's wrong?"

"I...I'm pregnant."

Li Jinhua spoke softly, her eyes fixed on Su Mingqiang.

Su Mingqiang's steamed bun fell onto the table.

His eyes widened, and his lips trembled.

"R-really?"

Li Jinhua nodded and took out the hospital's examination report from her pocket and handed it to him.

Su Mingqiang took the order, his hands trembling so much he could barely hold it.

His gaze swept back and forth across the paper, finally settling on the words "8 weeks pregnant".

"Eight weeks?"

He muttered to himself, then his eyes suddenly lit up.

"The one on the 15th?"

Li Jinhua's heart skipped a beat; she hadn't expected Su Mingqiang to remember it so clearly.

She lowered her eyes and nodded gently.

"Yes, it must have been that day."

"I'm going to be a dad!"

Su Mingqiang suddenly jumped up from his chair, picked up Li Jinhua, and spun her around in the living room.
