If given another chance at life, how would you choose?
My plan: First, make myself look stunningly beautiful. Then secure a comfortable stable job, preferably a golden rice bowl. Finally, pur...
One hundred and sixty-three cats have their own way of life
The park's railings are made of flat, round iron bars, decorated with curved, thin cloud patterns on the top and bottom. In the middle is a straight fence that is over a meter high, and on the topmost cloud pattern are spearhead-like points pointing towards the sky.
Every ten meters or so, there are square wall bases, covered with small ceramic tiles. On one side of the fence is a sidewalk planted with green trees, and on the other side is a grove of trees.
Li Wei rubbed her hands together. She didn't have the skill to step on the cloud-patterned decorations and jump over the fence like those boys did, and the young scoundrel clearly seemed to be looking forward to a good show.
She didn't want to go in the past, but who knew what bad things these guys might do once they entered the grove? But she couldn't stop thinking about it either. So Li Wei pretended to try to climb over the wall while trying to think of a way.
I tried stepping on the cloud pattern below with one foot and lifting the other foot high... but I couldn't even reach the cloud pattern above. I was wearing so many layers, and I looked like a panda scratching at the fence.
The boys who had flipped over on the other side were already laughing uncontrollably. Tong Cheng couldn't stand it anymore: "Can't you find another place? Don't think I can't see you stalling for time. If you piss me off, I'll throw you over there!" Although he didn't really care that Li Wei was stalling for time, he couldn't stand being treated like an idiot by a moron.
When one approach didn't work, Li Wei tried a different spot. She stepped on the low wall and shuffled towards the wall base. Poor thing, the front of her white fur coat was covered in gray fuzz.
Arriving at a wall pier, I looked at it and realized that pretending I couldn't climb it this time wouldn't work. Every twenty or thirty centimeters, there was a horizontal iron bar that went into the wall pier, which was just enough to step on.
Sigh, let's go. This time, Li Wei was like a polar bear that had finally stretched out its claws, climbing up the wall step by step.
The boys across from him laughed again, but the bully glared at him, telling him not to laugh. He, however, was laughing to himself, thinking it was much more fun than going to the zoo.
Li Wei exerted tremendous effort. Finally, she climbed to the top of the iron fence, straddling the piers like a tower, shrinking in circles until there was only a tiny spot left at the top, so small that it was uncomfortable to sit on.
Li Wei sat there panting. She glanced around, then her gaze suddenly fell on a branch, about the thickness of her forearm, lying horizontally overhead. Following the branch, she saw a roadside tree, easily four or five meters tall. Because of years of pruning and stunting, although still quite thick, it had lost its central trunk, leaving only many roughly the same thickness of side branches, growing in a large clump, like an umbrella.
The branch at the top of Li Wei's head is the lowest side branch. Because it has been growing for a longer time than the branches above, it is slightly thicker.
The branches were bare, trembling in the cold wind. All the leaves had long since fallen.
Li Wei swallowed hard. She looked down at Tong Cheng, who was watching her like a monkey on a show. His eyes and brows... he looked like a scoundrel no matter how you looked at him.
Li Wei went all out. She shifted her position on the wall, then took off her coat and tied it around her neck like a tracksuit. She looked at her thick cotton boots. These things were quite cumbersome. She already lacked the agility of a monkey; wearing boots and gloves made her look like a cat with its nails clipped.
Li Wei was about to take off her shoes. Tong Cheng, below, grew impatient: "Can you hurry up? If you can't get down, I can help. But if you keep delaying, let me tell you the truth. I'm waiting for that Huo Jianhua and Ding Anping to come down. Don't think you're so powerful just because someone's backing you up. Others might be afraid of them. In my eyes, they're nothing. Hurry up, or even more people will suffer, haha..."
Damn it, did she travel through time to ancient times? There are still such arrogant people here. Maybe it'll be another ten or eight years, with a generation steeped in violent films, before such a bizarre person appears. Now... isn't it a bit too early? Or... was her environment in her previous life too naive, and she was too ignorant?
No matter the era, Li Wei refused to believe that such a petty scoundrel would be left unattended and even rebelled against the heavens.
He casually stuffed his gloves into his pocket, quickly took off his boots, and threw them at the smug Tong Cheng: "You bastard, take this!"
Tong Cheng was caught off guard. He dodged twice, and the boot only hit his shoulder and body. Given Li Wei's strength, he didn't feel anything, but he was startled.
He couldn't help but get angry: "You brat, I..."
Looking up, he opened his mouth but couldn't speak.
Li Wei threw her boots away and stood up on the wall pier. She reached up and grabbed the tree branch above her head, then wrapped her legs around it. She clung to the branch with all four limbs and swayed back and forth on the iron fence.
Although the branches weren't thick, they were quite resilient, so there was no danger of them breaking. Li Wei's heart finally calmed down a bit, and she began to slowly move towards the trunk of the tree, using both her hands and feet like a koala, following the branches.
Those below stared in disbelief as the branch swayed violently. Li Wei hadn't looked down to see, but those below were filled with apprehension. If it broke, there would be sharp iron railings below…
Geng Xinyang's face grew increasingly ugly, and even Tong Cheng's previously carefree smile turned serious. Scaring people, fighting, and picking up girls were one thing, but as long as no one died, his parents would have to clean up his messes. This was a lesson he'd learned from countless experiences; it was clear that being a spoiled brat without brains wasn't easy.
However, judging from the girl's clothes and her connections with Ding Hong, she's not from an ordinary family. If something happens, money and intimidation won't solve the problem; what if someone dies...?
Li Wei's fluffy coat was tied around her neck, making her head look big and her body small. The hood was drooping and flapping as she moved toward the tree trunk. If she had a tail, she would really look like some kind of animal.
One of the clueless boys below was still laughing: "Not bad..."
"Shut up! Hurry up and come over here and keep an eye on things. You'll know what 'good' means if you fall and die!" Tong Cheng roared, silencing the boy.
Tong Cheng, who usually hung out with a bunch of cronies, was used to giving orders. Having developed some leadership skills, he immediately commanded his subordinates, including Geng Xinyang: "You, you, you, all of you come over here and keep an eye on things from below. If she falls, catch her. Anyone who dares to desert their post, you'd better think twice. And you, Lao Geng, you climb the tree over here and hold her, you hear me?"
He refused to believe that they couldn't catch a little girl; his group had gotten into plenty of fights and brawls.
After finishing speaking, Tong Cheng pointed to the only remaining boy and said, "Go help Lao Geng. If he can't climb up, help him first. If it really doesn't work, you climb."
The girls have already climbed up, so Lao Geng should be fine. But judging from this kid's appearance, he probably isn't on Lao Geng's side, so who knows?
As for himself, he will remain as the temporary commander-in-chief and see how things develop.
The branch that Li Wei climbed was from the lowest ring of the tree, because it had a curve. It was slightly higher than the main trunk, about five or six meters above the ground, a bit taller than an old-fashioned two-story building.
Although it looked scary from the ground, Li Wei felt that, given the thickness of the branches and her own weight, as long as she could hold on, it wouldn't be a problem.
Li Wei slowly moved towards the trunk. Fortunately, she had been training at the martial arts gym for the past semester, and her flexibility and strength had improved significantly. Otherwise, she really wouldn't have been able to keep going for long. In addition, the pack of wolves waiting to eat her below greatly stimulated her life potential, and she actually made her way to the trunk quite smoothly.
The distance from the roadside trees to the fence wasn't far. About two or three meters. Li Wei gritted her teeth and reached the other side smoothly. Her woolen socks were quite agile, hooking onto other branches on the main trunk. In a few quick movements, she reached the top of the tree, sat down in the middle of the uneven branches, wiped the cold sweat from her forehead, and panted.
Before she could even catch her breath, she saw Geng Xinyang climbing up below, and he was only a meter or so away, just an arm's length away from her. Li Wei panicked: "Geng Xinyang, get down here! If you dare to climb any further, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
Li Wei now holds the high ground. While her offensive capabilities are lacking, her advantage in self-defense is quite obvious.
Geng Xinyang looked up at Li Wei with a wry smile: "Um... why don't you come down? It's too dangerous up there..."
Li Wei interrupted, "Bullshit! It's dangerous for me to go down there. Look at your bunch of cronies, bullying a girl like me! Have you no shame? I'm not going down today! I'm telling you, whoever comes up here, I'll kick them! If they fall and die, I'll pay for it! I have plenty of money, humph!" Damn, the benefits of having money are finally showing! She really has the confidence to speak like that.
