Rebirth of the Great Miss of the Inner Court Struggle

A daughter from a prominent family is desired by many, yet the daughter of the Yong family is sought by none. Noble families consider her nouveau riche and vulgar, while scholarly houses pride them...

Chapter 22 Goodnight

Back at Junhua Tower, everyone gathered together. Zhao Shu glanced around and was somewhat surprised to see that Wei Tingsi was also there.

Sun Yun and Huo Danlan were together when they saw Zhao Shu coming over, and they quickly asked her to come over.

He curtsied to Wei Tingsi and Ouyang Ping, then quickly walked towards Huo Danlan, "Aunt, has the Crown Prince woken up?"

"The master said it's time now." Huo Danlan straightened her clothes, her heart aching at her red eyes. "Was A-Jun bullied?"

"No." Zhao Shu shook her head, forcing a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Auntie, A-Jun is fine."

"It's good that you're alright. It's your aunt's fault for not taking good care of you and causing you all to be frightened." She patted Sun Yun's hand as she spoke, her eyes full of self-reproach.

Zhao Shu quickly smiled and comforted her, "It's not your fault, Aunt. It's not that you didn't take good care of us. It's just that the thieves were too cunning and took advantage of the Crown Prince's trust." The thought that when the Crown Prince was most helpless, the person he trusted most told him that his death would be the only right thing for him and would be good for everyone made her heart ache.

Huo Danlan knew perfectly well that Zhao Shu was in her arms, and gently patted her back, "It's alright, it's all over now, the Crown Prince will get better."

Zhao Shu nestled in Huo Danlan's arms, closed her eyes, feeling so tired and wanting to sleep. Her mind grew heavier and heavier, and soon she fell asleep in Huo Danlan's arms.

She used to not believe people who said they could fall asleep standing up, but now she actually can.

She was a light sleeper. Huo Danlan sensed that she was asleep and wanted to carry her to the room to sleep, but she woke up and asked, "Is Crown Prince Brother awake?"

"Ah Jun, go and rest if you're tired. We'll call you when His Highness the Crown Prince wakes up," Sun Yun said quickly, noticing the bloodstains on Zhao Shu's clothes and knowing she had experienced another dangerous situation while she was away.

Zhao Shu nodded. She didn't want to go to see the Crown Prince in such a disheveled state. "Aunt, A-Jun will go to bathe and change. She'll come back later."

"Go ahead, Grandma," Huo Danlan called out, and the ugly old woman suddenly appeared, arriving behind Zhao Shu like a gust of wind, and said dryly, "Please, Princess."

"Thank you, Auntie." The words of refusal were on the tip of her tongue, but she didn't say them in the end. After what had happened, Huo Danlan must be feeling terrible. If doing something could make her feel at ease, why should she refuse?

Early in the morning, Zhao Shu instructed Green Ivy to prepare hot water. The ugly old woman led her to the courtyard that Huo Danlan had actually arranged, which was indeed the courtyard that Sun Yun had come to earlier.

Throughout the journey, she kept recalling what the Crown Prince had told her: to take care of the Empress, to give her a package, and to tell her not to let anyone else see it, as well as the words, "I want to see Ah Jun one last time."

All of this proves that the Crown Prince had suicidal thoughts before he even saw her. So, the Crown Prince traveled all the way to Guanzhou just to die there.

Absolutely not. Zhao Shu was certain that he had no intention of dying before meeting the Hao family. Otherwise, he wouldn't have come to Guanzhou. Wei Tingsi was injured, which shows how dangerous the journey was. The Crown Prince wasn't a ruthless person. He wouldn't have thought of seeing her and then having someone risk their life to send him to Guanzhou.

The Huo family and Wei Tingsi would never persuade him to die. The only ones who made him contemplate suicide were the Hao family. The Hao family father and son were ruthless. They destroyed the crown prince from the root and were still not satisfied. They even sent people to secretly monitor him. If the crown prince suddenly refused to die, then the people they had secretly arranged would take the crown prince's life.

After taking a bath, it was already dark. Little Fatty came over to inform her that the Crown Prince had woken up. She hurriedly put on her cloak, not caring that her hair was still wet. She pulled the hood over her head, grabbed the bundle the Crown Prince had given her, and followed Little Fatty to the Junhua Pavilion.

On the way, Zhao Shu walked very fast, but she did not forget to express her gratitude, "Thank you, Mr. Huo, for sending Little Fatty to protect the Crown Prince, and thank you, Little Fatty, for protecting the Crown Prince."

"I dare not accept the thanks of a princess. It is a blessing for the world that the crown prince is safe and sound." He spoke words of great righteousness. He did not know whether the world was at peace or not. As long as the crown prince was not dead for the time being, the princes were at peace for the time being.

However, the undercurrents beneath this calm are about to overflow.

Zhao Shu smiled, "Did the Imperial Brother-in-law and his son come from Guanzhou with you?"

"No, the Imperial Uncle and the Imperial Father-in-law met us in Guanzhou. It was the Crown Prince who sent someone to inform the Imperial Uncle. After that, the Imperial Uncle took over the Crown Prince's daily life and meals. The Crown Prince trusts the Imperial Uncle more." The chubby boy was indignant, and his tone became unpleasant. They risked their lives to send the Crown Prince to Guanzhou, but the Crown Prince trusted the Imperial Uncle more.

Zhao Shu knew why he was speaking so harshly, but she did not intend to argue. The Crown Prince had suffered a great upheaval and was no longer the same as before, so naturally he dared not entrust his complete trust to the Huo family or Wei Tingsi.

Moreover, the Crown Prince did not entirely trust the Imperial Uncle. At least the Imperial Uncle and his son did not know the location of the gold mine. If his guess was correct, the Crown Prince had given him information about the gold mine.

As they spoke, they arrived at Junhua Tower. Huo Danlan, Sun Yun, Wei Tingsi, and others were still in the outer room, but Ouyang Ping was missing. Huo Danlan saw that she seemed to be looking for Ouyang Ping, so she quickly said, "Ajun, the Crown Prince has woken up. The doctor is inside. The Crown Prince instructed that you go in to see him as soon as you arrive."

"Oh dear." Zhao Shu hurriedly went into the inner room, where Ouyang Ping was taking the Crown Prince's pulse. Besides the Crown Prince and Ouyang Ping, the only other person in the room was the strong man she had seen when she went to see Wei Tingsi earlier. He was dressed in coarse cloth and was not a soldier.

As Zhao Shu approached, the Crown Prince managed a weak smile, "Ah Jun."

"Brother Crown Prince, you scared me to death." She walked to the bedside and sat on a low stool, tears streaming down her face.

"Don't cry, Ah Jun." The Crown Prince wanted to raise his hand to wipe Zhao Shu's tears, but his hand trembled violently. The effects of the medicine had not yet worn off. He frowned, hating himself for being so useless.

After taking his pulse, Ouyang Ping stood up, cupped his hands and bowed, saying, "Your Highness, Princess, I will prepare the medicine. Your Highness still has some residual toxins in your body, so your diet should be light and you should not be exposed to the wind."
