Rebirth of the New Wedding Night: Clinging to the Rugged Husband and Not Letting Go

Shen Heng, the village bully of Shili Village, has a fierce and intimidating persona.

To everyone's surprise, his newly wedded little wife is not afraid of him at all. In fact, she keeps ...

Chapter 2: Encountering the "Ex-Boyfriend" Again

"..." Shen Heng's throat felt like it was choked by something.

The day after the wedding, the bride cried from hunger.

Is this saying he's capable or incapable?

Suppressing the anger rising in his heart, Shen Heng picked up Bai Jiaojiao and put her back on the kang (a heated brick bed).

He turned and hurried out, drew water from the well, and washed his face again to calm himself down.

When he went back into the house, he was carrying a sweet potato and an egg.

"That's all we have at home, just make do with this. I'll go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy you something else after I get off work today."

Shen Heng usually eats just enough to fill his stomach; he doesn't eat anything fancy.

Bai Jiaojiao had also recovered from the overwhelming excitement of her rebirth. She looked at Shen Heng with a hint of shyness on her face.

"Thank you, Brother Heng."

Bai Jiaojiao whispered.

No one had ever spoken to Shen Heng so gently and tenderly, let alone a beautiful woman lying on his kang (heated brick bed).

A strange feeling surged through Shen Heng like a heatwave. He frowned, but in reality, he resembled a tamed dog, looking down at Bai Jiaojiao.

"I'm going to work now, you can rest, I'll ask for leave for you."

Although it's a time to celebrate the glory of labor, no one would say anything if a man asked his new wife for leave on their wedding day.

"Brother Heng, I'm going too."

Having lost him and found him again, Bai Jiaojiao didn't want to be separated from Shen Heng, so she reached out and grabbed the hem of his clothes.

Shen Heng looked at Bai Jiaojiao's thin arms, his words of disdain stuck in his throat, and automatically turned into: "You were exhausted last night, you should rest."

Bai Jiaojiao didn't understand the meaning behind Shen Heng's words and shook her head anxiously: "I'm not tired."

Shen Heng's eyebrows twitched; he had a feeling that Bai Jiaojiao was challenging him in some way.

But remembering how obedient Bai Jiaojiao had been last night, her heart softened, and she became more patient: "Your legs are so weak, I'll let you stay home, don't argue with me."

Bai Jiaojiao finally understood what he was saying. She blushed, let go of his hand, and looked away.

Bai Jiaojiao's memory of last night was very clear. Thinking about how proactive she had been at the beginning of the night, she wanted to cover her head up.

Shen Heng was delighted.

He thought this fake young lady from the city would have a strange temper, but it turned out she was just a little kitten who hadn't even learned to bar her teeth and claws.

Chen Heng's mood has improved a lot:

"Alright, I'll do your work for you, I can support you."

They are now a married couple, and it's perfectly normal for a man to help his wife with chores. Besides, Bai Jiaojiao is a new bride on her first day in the family, so no one would say anything if she asked for leave.

Bai Jiaojiao did want to change her reputation for being "lazy and good-for-nothing" in Shili Village, but as had just happened, she was so exhausted by Shen Heng that she could barely get out of bed, so she gave up.

Seeing that Bai Jiaojiao was alright, Shen Heng hurried off to work.

He had barely stepped out of the room when he heard Bai Jiaojiao say behind him, "Brother Heng, I'll be good to you from now on!"

Shen Heng felt a tingling sensation starting from the soles of his feet. For a moment, even the strands of his hair seemed to tremble. He lost his footing and almost fell headfirst to the ground, staggering.

He wasn't sure if he had just imagined it, but he didn't have the courage to turn around and ask Bai Jiaojiao for confirmation.

Bai Jiaojiao had no idea what Shen Heng was thinking.

She lay in bed until 10:30 before stretching her arms and legs and getting up. The sweet potato was a bit cold; although it was sweet, it was also a little dry, so Bai Jiaojiao ate it with water.

She simply stopped complaining about the poor conditions; with Shen Heng around, everything was fine.

Bai Jiaojiao went out and looked around the small courtyard that was both familiar and unfamiliar to her.

The yard was empty except for a pile of firewood covered with a plastic sheet in the corner and two rows of radishes in the middle.

This was her last peaceful haven in her previous life.

Bai Jiaojiao looked up at the sky and stopped herself from crying.

Having been given a second chance at life, it's her turn to stand up for Shen Heng.

It was getting late, so Bai Jiaojiao went into the kitchen to make lunch, only to find that the kitchen was cleaner than the yard.

Rice isn't grown in Shili Village; the price of rice here is outrageously high.

Shen Heng didn't know how to handle flour, so his family didn't even have a flour container, let alone flour.

There was only a pile of sweet potatoes and a jar of pickled radishes.

It's the busy season for farming, and Bai Jiaojiao wanted to prepare something good to nourish Shen Heng's body.

Even a clever housewife can't cook without rice. Bai Jiaojiao glanced at the radishes planted in the yard and had an idea.

Shili Village is located by the sea, and it is rich in marine resources.

There are government-run fish and shrimp shops at the dock. They go out to sea in the morning, and their small boats return early, usually docking around this time.

Bai Jiaojiao rode her bicycle, intending to go to the dock to buy some shrimp to stew with radishes.

Shen Heng was capable and lived a simple life. He didn't have many social interactions, so he saved a lot of money.

There are two bicycles in the village, one belongs to the village chief Li Lide, and the other belongs to Chen Heng.

Bai Jiaojiao rode her bicycle, looking very cool in the village.

Bai Jiaojiao was born with beautiful features, and her adoptive parents in the city had made her fair and delicate. Although she had become a bit tanned after living in the village for two years, her complexion had improved a lot due to exercise.

The girls in the village all envied her, but a few couldn't stand seeing others do well.

Those who were jealous of Bai Jiaojiao were secretly gloating over her current situation.

"Tsk tsk, what bad luck, to actually marry that jinx Shen Heng."

"Didn't they say they gave a bride price of two hundred yuan? The Bai family has really made a killing this time."

Shili Village is not wealthy. A dowry of 200 yuan is enough for an average family to marry off several brothers.
