A tragic childhood under the shadow of a stepfather, a desolate love that could never be, a clown-masked man in a late-night alley, the crisp moonlight, and the cold blade.

Oh, and the waiter...

Chapter One: Damn People

The night was as black as ink, pressing down on the entire planet. A few rumbles of thunder sounded on the horizon, growing ever closer. Finally, it exploded as if right next to our ears. Soon after, rain poured down from afar, roaring and torrential, washing the once bustling streets into silence.

Xiao Ning, a diligent employee at a well-known restaurant, couldn't help but complain at this sudden downpour. He felt aggrieved for his restaurant and secretly resented his boss's decision. As a famous local restaurant, it was always packed with customers. However, the boss insisted on taking on delivery services, and the delivery area was incredibly far. Unfortunately, when there was a shortage of staff, Xiao Ning had to work part-time as a delivery driver. That evening, the restaurant received an order from a regular customer in the suburbs. With no other option, to satisfy his regular customer, Xiao Ning had to brave the rain and set off.

Another clap of thunder boomed in the distance, making Xiao Ning's ears ache. He steadied the handlebars of his little donkey, pulled it over to the side of the road, vigorously wiped the rain from his face, and then shook the remaining water off his hands. He glanced at his watch, estimating that he had less than an hour to go before reaching his destination. Xiao Ning sighed, looking at the dark area between the city and the suburbs, the streetlights casting a dim glow. A gust of wind blew a few raindrops down his neck. Xiao Ning shivered, turned up his collar, pulled his neck in, wiped the rain from his face again, and after confirming that the food behind him was safe, the little donkey sped off again into the dark, rainy night.

The lights gradually brightened, revealing a cluster of villas in the suburbs, worth a considerable sum. Xiao Ning had been here several times and recognized the customer who had placed the order. The community had strict access control, prohibiting all outside vehicles from entering, especially delivery vehicles. Xiao Ning parked his car at the entrance, lowered his collar, picked up the food from the back of the car, and walked into the community. Light was indeed a good remedy for fear; Xiao Ning's courage grew.

"Meow!" A sharp meow pierced the roadside bushes, followed by a dark shadow darting past Xiao Ning's feet. Xiao Ning's previously calmed heart jolted, and she leaped into the air. Startled, she quickly checked the food beside her before relaxing. Staring resentfully in the direction the stray cat had disappeared, she cursed angrily, "Damn cat!"

Xiao Ning finally stood before the familiar villa. He walked to the door and rang the doorbell, but there was no response. The curtains were all drawn, so Xiao Ning couldn't see inside. He dialed the customer's number again, but the call didn't go through. Xiao Ning had no choice but to walk to the door and knock. Unexpectedly, the door was ajar. After Xiao Ning knocked, the door slowly opened a crack.

"Is anyone home?" Xiao Ning asked from outside, but still received no response. Xiao Ning glanced at the food in her hand, then steeled herself, determined to complete the delivery. She planned to open the door, put the food inside, and leave a message for the customer explaining the situation. "Okay, that's what I'll do," Xiao Ning decided.

Xiao Ning gently pushed the door open. The door faced the hall, and all the lights in the room were on, dazzling the eyes.

"Hello, your takeout has arrived." Opening the door, Xiao Ning found the customer slumped over the coffee table in the living room, seemingly asleep. Xiao Ning stomped her feet on the carpet outside to shake off the rain before entering the house. She walked over to the customer and put the food down. "Hello, your order is complete. If there are no problems, I'll be going now." Xiao Ning was about to turn around when she realized the customer wasn't awake at all. Was she sleeping soundly? Xiao Ning frowned and gently patted the customer's shoulder. Still not awake… Xiao Ning stood there, her mind racing. She glanced at the customer, temporarily stopping her wandering thoughts, mustered her courage, and gave the customer a gentle nudge.

"Ah!" A bright flash of lightning outside accompanied Xiao Ning's shout. Xiao Ning took two steps back, slipped, and fell to the ground. She swallowed hard, her body trembling, but she managed to get up. Xiao Ning approached the guest again. The guest was now slumped on the coffee table, her makeup beautiful, but her face was very pale and her lips blue. Xiao Ning mustered her courage and checked the guest's breath. Sure enough, she was dead.

The music of the night shifted from a solo of thunder and rain to a reverberation mixed with the sirens of police sirens. Xiao Ning was frightened, but her mind remained clear; she knew that calling the police was the best option in this situation. After conducting the necessary questioning and following the proper procedures, the police confirmed that Xiao Ning was not capable of committing any crime and released her.

"Boss, look at this." A young policeman held up a phone screen to his face. "This is the deceased's Weibo account. About three hours ago, she posted this status."
