Returning to forty years ago after being reborn, what can one do?
Should one go with the flow of the times and ride the wave, or use the advantages of rebirth to avoid misfortune and seek goo...
Before getting too close, Sheng Xiping shone his flashlight on the roe deer's carcass, which looked much the same as it had in the morning.
In early November, just as winter was beginning, the sun was shining during the day and the temperature wasn't too low, so the roe deer meat was barely frozen.
Unlike in the dead of winter, it doesn't freeze solid overnight when left outside.
The fact that the roe deer's carcass didn't change much means that the lynx didn't come during the day.
Sheng Xiping didn't take the roe deer carcass during the day because he planned to come back at night to hunt lynxes. So he had already surveyed the surrounding area and memorized the terrain.
At this moment, Sheng Xiping found a spot about fifty or sixty meters away from the roe deer carcass, behind a large tree stump.
Then, spread half of the roe deer skin rug on your knees and sit on it, while draping the other half over your back to block the wind.
The tree stump was less than two feet tall, just enough to support five or six half of the tree, so that it didn't have to be held up all the time.
Sheng Xiping wrapped the front of the gun barrel with tin foil from a cigarette box to aid in aiming.
And so, Sheng Xi quietly hid behind the tree stump, motionless, and tried to keep her breathing steady and shallow so as not to disturb her prey.
The mountain forest at night was filled with all sorts of eerie sounds, a cacophony of wailing and sobbing that would be unbearable for anyone with a weak constitution.
Fortunately, Sheng Xiping was mentally strong and was not afraid of anything. He focused on what was in front of him and kept an eye on his surroundings.
In the quiet, cold night, every minute and every second seemed to pass very slowly.
I don't know how much time passed, but suddenly, there seemed to be a faint rustling sound in the woods.
Sheng Xiping felt a chill run down his spine and immediately focused his attention on what was ahead.
Under the moonlight, a lithe shadow flew swiftly from afar.
But when it pounced close, it did not go straight up to eat the roe deer's carcass. Instead, it leaped up and jumped onto a nearby tree.
Eyes glowing with a yellowish-green light in the darkness cautiously surveyed their surroundings.
This guy lay motionless on the tree for more than ten minutes.
After confirming that there was no danger around, he jumped down from the tree, pounced on the roe deer carcass, and began to devour it.
In early winter, the nighttime temperature wasn't particularly low, so even though the roe deer meat was frozen, it wasn't too difficult to gnaw on by the sharp teeth of wild animals.
Hiding behind the tree stump, Sheng Xiping heard a series of moaning sounds coming from ahead.
At this point, it could finally be confirmed that the creature eating on the other side was a raccoon dog.
It seems that felines make growling sounds when they eat to warn those around them.
Sheng Xiping didn't look at his watch, but silently counted in his mind. After about three or four minutes, the mountain fox had completely given up its vigilance and was focused on eating.
Sheng Xiping swiftly removed his gloves, pulled the bolt, held the gun to his face, and pulled the trigger.
A gunshot rang out, followed by a scream from the other side. A figure leaped into the air, attempting to escape.
Sheng Xiping remained calm and pulled the trigger again, firing another shot.
The shadow, which was in mid-air, fell to the ground with a thud, seemed to twitch twice, and then stopped moving.
Sheng Xiping got up from behind the tree stump, stretched his legs, and then walked towards the spot where the shadow had fallen, gun in hand.
Upon approaching and turning on the flashlight, an animal nearly a meter long, with grayish-brown fur, dark spots, a short, thick tail, and resembling a cat, lay motionless on the ground.
Sheng Xiping kicked the wildcat, but it didn't react at all.
Sheng Xiping squatted down, turned over the carcass of the mountain fox, and found that one shot had hit the creature in the stomach and the other in the head.
It's alright. Although the fur is a little damaged, it's not serious. It should fetch a good price.
"You stole my roe deer, now look what happened! You've even lost your life."
Sheng Xiping muttered something, bent down, grabbed the carcass of the mountain fox, dragged it to the vicinity of the roe deer carcass, and then pulled the roe deer carcass out of the snow.
Although the roe deer had been eaten quite a bit by the civets and raccoon dogs, there was still half left. Sheng Xiping planned to drag it home and feed it to the dogs.
He went to so much trouble to climb the mountain, so naturally he couldn't waste it; what he should bring back shouldn't be left behind.
Sheng Xiping dragged the roe deer and the civet to the spot where he had been hiding. He found a rope and tied the two prey together, planning to drag them back later.
Then, he put away the roe deer skin rug, tied it with rope, and carried it on his back.
He cocked the rifle and carried it on his right shoulder.
Actually, there's a reason for carrying a gun on your back. Slinging it across your shoulder is more convenient, as the gun won't slip backward, but it's more troublesome to take it off.
Carrying it directly in a single compartment, the stock is heavy, and it tends to sag backward as you walk, but it's easy to remove the gun in case of an emergency. It's a trade-off, I guess.
However, when Sheng Xiping went into the mountains, he usually carried his gun on his right shoulder, so he could react quickly if he encountered danger.
Once everything was ready, Sheng Xiping dragged his prey back home.
They caught two raccoons and one wildcat that day, a truly impressive haul.
Sheng Xiping was happy. Despite carrying things on his back and dragging prey, he still walked lightly and did not feel heavy at all.
But as he walked, Sheng Xiping suddenly felt something was wrong. A cold wind ran down his back, and he felt uneasy, as if something was watching him from behind.
Sheng Xiping didn't dare to stop; he simply passed the rope from his right hand to his left.
Then, using your right thumb to grip the strap of the gun, slide it upwards to remove the gun.
At the same time, he threw away the rope in his left hand, gripped the butt of the gun, raised his hand to pull down the bolt, and turned around to aim behind him.
Less than a hundred meters behind Sheng Xiping, two pairs of eyes gleaming with an eerie green light were staring at them.
