Chapter 339 Staking Out the Lynx

They were wolves, two vicious wolves that came out at night to hunt for food.

They were drawn by the smell of blood, originally planning to sneak up behind Sheng Xiping, find an opportunity to ambush him, and then have a hearty meal.

Unexpectedly, before they could find an opportunity, Sheng Xiping discovered their existence.

Discovered of their pursuit, the two wolves became furious, raised their heads, and let out loud "ooh ooh" sounds towards the sky.

The wolf's howl, with its soft exhalation and loud respiration, sounded even more eerie against the backdrop of the night, sending chills down one's spine.

Sheng Xiping felt a chill run down his spine. These two wolves were probably scouts sent out by the wolf pack, and their howls were likely a way of sending a message to the pack.

Many of the wolves in these mountains were killed by Sheng Xiping and his group during the last spring hunt.

However, no spring hunting was conducted in the forest farm and Dajianchang this year, so the wolf packs may have multiplied again.

Sheng Xiping couldn't guess how big the wolf pack was, and now was not the time to investigate that.

Now that the two wolves have spotted him and are relaying the message back, the wolf pack might arrive soon.

Although Sheng Xiping brought two packs of bullets into the mountains tonight, the night belongs to nocturnal beasts such as wolves.

Once surrounded by wolves, even with a lot of bullets, there's no guarantee you can kill them all.

If we run out of bullets, that would be dangerous.

Thinking of this, Sheng Xiping gritted his teeth, pulled the trigger, and fired at the wolf opposite him.

There were ten bullets in the chamber. Two were used to shoot the wildcat, leaving eight.

Sheng Xiping didn't lower his gun to the face, but instead pulled the trigger repeatedly, firing all eight bullets in one go.

If this were an old-fashioned musket, or a No. 16 pistol, things would be in trouble today.

Fortunately, Sheng Xiping was carrying Type 56 semi-automatic bullets. Eight bullets were fired in quick succession, and the two wolves opposite him didn't have time to dodge before being shot and falling to the ground.

Sheng Xiping didn't know where his shots had hit the wolf, nor did he have time to check; he needed to load the gun quickly.

Luckily, he had brought plenty of bullets with him into the mountains. He took out the bullets from the pocket of his fur coat, put them into the magazine, then pulled out the magazine, pulled down the bolt, and chambered ten bullets.

The two wolves in the distance must be dead, as they made no further noise. Sheng Xiping was too lazy to pay them any more attention. He simply bent down, picked up the rope, and dragged the lynx and roe deer away quickly.

Before Sheng Xiping had even walked two miles, he heard the distant howling of wolves.

This time, it seems there are more than just one or two wolves; judging from the noise, there are probably more than ten.

Sheng Xiping kept walking forward without stopping, going as far as he could at that moment.

If the wolves don't chase after us, fine. But if they do, his gun isn't just for show.

And so, Sheng Xiping walked a little further, and the wolf howls grew closer and closer.

Clearly, these vengeful fellows had followed the scent of blood.

It was already past ten o'clock, and the moon was high in the sky. Sheng Xiping used the moonlight to survey his surroundings but did not find any particularly advantageous terrain.

However, there are quite a few red pine trees here.

On a sudden inspiration, Sheng Xiping threw the lynx and roe deer carcasses under the tree and climbed up the pine tree with his gun on his back.
