Chapter 54 The Beast with the Surname Zhou

Fifty minutes later, the taxi stopped at the old gate of the prison. The blue signposts on the roadside were rusted. Xia Xi looked at the scenery along the way without any fatigue. He scanned the code to pay the fare, pushed open the door and got out.

The driver lowered the window, leaned his head out slightly, and shouted at Xia Xi's back: "Hey, girl, it's hard to get a taxi here. How long will it take for you to come out? I can wait for you."

The driver was initially surprised to hear she was coming to the prison, but then he figured it out: this girl was probably visiting someone in her family who had committed a crime and was serving a prison sentence. Collective punishment wasn't the norm these days, and she was innocent, so she shouldn't be treated differently.

Xia Xi turned around, a faint smile on her lips: "Thank you, I may have to wait a little longer."

She hadn't seen her elder sister for a long time and had a lot to say to her.

However, the prison has regulations that visiting time cannot exceed one hour.

"It's okay, I'll wait for you." The driver waved his hand.

Xia Xi thanked him again, turned around and strode into the prison, showing her ID to the guard. As required, special personnel would come to check her personal belongings, and some things that were not allowed to be brought in would be stored outside.

Fortunately, Xia Xi was well prepared. Since she couldn't bring her cell phone in, she printed out the photos in advance.

After completing the process, she was led to the meeting room and sat down to wait.

This was not the first time Xia Xi came to visit the prison. Every time she came, she felt very heavy-hearted, as if her heart was like a sponge filled with water, slowly sinking down to the bottom of the sea. She felt stuffy and couldn't breathe.

While waiting, she adjusted her expression several times, trying to appear more relaxed and natural, less serious. She thought of it as just a reunion with a long-lost sister, albeit in a strange location. That way, her older sister would feel better.

Hearing the footsteps, Xia Xi immediately raised her eyelids and saw Xia Yue in handcuffs, followed by a prison guard.

All the psychological preparations made before were useless. The moment she saw her sister, Xia Xi's eyes seemed to be squeezed with lemon juice, so sour that she almost shed tears. She tried hard to pull up the corners of her lips and smile.

The eyes are crying and the mouth is laughing, it looks funny and weird.

On the contrary, Xia Yue saw that she was smiling happily. It was not a forced smile, but a smile that came from the heart: "Are you back?"

Xia Xi's throat was blocked and he couldn't speak, so he nodded vigorously.

Xia Yue also sat down. The guard reminded them to "pay attention to the time" and left, leaving the two of them alone. Xia Yue's handcuffed hands hung between her legs. When she smiled, wrinkles appeared at the corners of her eyes.

She was only thirty-four years old, six years older than Xia Xi, and the eldest in the family. The three sisters all looked like Su Jinru, but each had her own style. Xia Yue was gentle, Xia Xi was bright, and Xia Xuan was cute. They were the "three sisters" praised by everyone in Ganlin back then.

The Xia family runs the most famous restaurant in Ganlin, and few people have not heard of them.

"You, how come you're not as good as Xuanxuan? The last time she came to see me, she was so cheerful and said she had found the right person and was getting married." Xia Yue pouted and laughed at her, "Look at you again, your eyes are filled with tears."

Xia Xi covered half of her face with one hand and burst into laughter.

"Stop crying." Xia Yue shrugged, smiling even happier than before, "You're the craziest person in our family."

"No way." Xia Xi scolded, her voice tinged with a muffled nasal sound.

She took out a tissue to wipe her tears and blow her nose. Xia Yue kept looking at her and smiling: "I don't know who it is, but the first time she brought her boyfriend home, she yelled for the entire hotel staff to call him son-in-law."

Xia Xi covered her face with both hands: "Stop talking, save your dignity."

Her early twenties were the age when she was most unrestrained and uninhibited. She was as warm as the sun. She said and did whatever she wanted based on her mood and never cared about anything else. She could indeed be called "crazy".

"If it weren't for what happened to our father, our mother would have wanted you to inherit the restaurant. You were smart and capable, with an outgoing personality, and you could have been successful in all aspects of life. It's a pity that the restaurant is gone."

Xia Yue said the last sentence with infinite regret.

"Let's not talk about that guy." After all, their father, who was worse than a beast, was the source of all their troubles. Mentioning him made her feel awful. Xia Xi pulled out a few photos from her chest like a magic trick and showed them to her, "This is Youyou. She looks like you. Look, she's doing well."

Xia Yue was chatting happily with Xia Xi just now, but when her eyes fell on the photo, tears fell without warning.

She raised her hands that were hidden under the table. The handcuffs on her wrists reflected a cold silver light. She took the photos with both hands and looked through them one by one. The more she looked, the more her tears flowed.

The little girl wore a beautiful light yellow dress and pigtails. Her face was white and tender, and she grinned carefree, revealing two rows of tiny teeth. She held a fluffy penguin stuffed animal and tilted her head to give the camera a "V" sign. Another photo showed her at a water park, wearing a tight, cartoon-style swimsuit, her belly bulging as she lay in a large pink flamingo swim ring. Her tiny hands clung to the bird's neck, her eyes blurred with laughter, her face splashed with water. The next photo was taken on the day she started kindergarten. She was wearing a tiny uniform, her arms folded, self-consciously cool, and her legs at ease.

There is another photo, which is a group photo of two children, sitting on the carpet at home, each holding an ice cream in his hand. When taking the photo, Xia Xi did not greet them in advance, but just called them. The two children raised their heads at the same time, with confused expressions, very cute, and Xia Xi captured it.

Xia Yue stroked the photo as if she were stroking her daughter's face. After a while, she looked at Xia Xi with tears in her eyes: "Looking at the little girl, I know you take good care of her. It's just... it's hard for you, raising two children alone."
