Eerie creatures descend upon Earth, rules become humanity's final showdown against the unspeakabl...
The room was spacious and bright, and because the lights were on, there was no scary atmosphere. The only strange thing was that there was no sound of conversation. The silence was a bit suffocating, and each ghost was doing its own thing.
The strange head stopped thumping much quieter and handed a sheet titled "Class Representative Instructions" to Kijima Suzuka without saying a word throughout the process.
Suzuka Kijima left the office immediately after receiving it.
After all, there wasn't just one teacher in this room who "hates the sound," but several.
When Suzuka Kijima returned to the classroom, she found a "Humanities and Social Sciences" class listed on her timetable. The rules stated that "at least four classes should be completed each day." She had probably already completed one class.
Kijima Suzuka checked her puppets' schedules and found that some had been added to the curriculum while others hadn't.
She carefully recalled the performance of others in class and quickly found a commonality—those who actively interacted with the teacher seemed to have an extra class, while those who did not make any moves still had no classes on their schedules.
In other words, the rules themselves encourage students to listen attentively and interact with the teacher.
However, none of that is the point. The point is that Suzuka Kijima came to this school for a reason—she came to find Hanako in the toilet. As for being a student, graduating, or becoming an adult, those are all unexpected events.
If Hanako is really that strong, she might not need to worry about the school rules at all and could use Hanako to break through directly.
With that in mind, Kijima Suzuka casually grabbed two puppet monsters, and the three of them headed towards the restroom together.
The toilets in the teaching buildings are usually located near the stairs, which makes it convenient for students to go up and down the stairs and take care of their hygiene needs. Even if there is a queue at the door, it will not block the way too much and cause congestion in the school corridor.
Soon, Suzuka Kijima found the restroom.
There is no distinction between male and female restrooms in this school. After all, everyone is a ghost, and it's hard to say whether some ghosts have identifiable body parts. So there are only individual toilet stalls.
Unfortunately, Suzuka Kijima saw a "Under Repair" sign hanging above the toilet, and it was sealed with a yellow tape.
"Repair? You must be kidding me."
Suzuka Kijima was puzzled. What kind of repair was this? Did some ghost clog the sewer while using the toilet?
Faced with reality, even the most impossible answer is now the truth. With the thought that "we might have gone to the wrong restroom," Kijima Suzuka led the ghosts to restrooms on other floors. Although they were no longer under repair, Hanako did not appear either.
That's really strange!
When Suzuka Kijima asked her classmates, she received the answer that "Hanako is in the toilet on the first floor."
It seems we won't be able to go into the restroom for the time being.
Kijima Suzuka frowned, forced to abandon her plan to quickly reach the Ghost Village Middle School and instead focus her efforts on expanding her ranks by targeting other indigenous ghosts.
If it weren't for the seventh rule—"Please get along well with your teachers and classmates"—Kishima Suzuka would probably have already started forcing other ghosts to drink things containing her own flesh and blood, turning them into her puppets.
Doing this now would probably be seen as having an unpleasant relationship with classmates.
Given the precedent of other yokai breaking the rules, even if Kijima Suzuka was foolish, she would never risk her life to test the limits of the rules.
The most troublesome thing is that the ghosts in the school are very wary.
She initially tried to trick the two ghosts who liked to play cards during breaks into drinking some water, but they refused outright, saying that they couldn't just eat or drink anything given to them by others in this school.
Other indigenous groups gave similar answers to varying degrees.
Therefore, it seems that the puppet army that Kijima Suzuka initially envisioned will likely take a long time to materialize. As for the immediate situation, there is an even more critical problem—
There were no further puppet sources.
As long as she cannot leave the school, and if she wants to use puppets to test the limits of the rules, Kijima Suzuka's puppets will only decrease in number.
She wanted to save it to protect herself in a critical moment, how could she waste it on something like this?
After attending three classes in a standard manner, it was lunchtime. Kijima Suzuka quickly followed the other "classmates" to the kitchen, and the moment she entered the cafeteria, she saw the rules posted there.
[Ghost Village Middle School Cafeteria Rules]
1. Take only what you can eat and avoid wasting food.
2. No staff will be present at the cafeteria windows; please get your food yourself. If anyone claiming to be a staff member appears at the cafeteria windows, please immediately notify the security guard at the cafeteria entrance.
3. The cafeteria is open 24 hours a day, so you can stay or rest here at any time.
4. Do not talk while eating. Do not make loud noises in the cafeteria and disturb other students' dining atmosphere. No matter how bad the food is, do not say anything.
5. If you accidentally knock over your plate while carrying your food, please pick up the contaminated food and put the plate in the recycling bin, then get a new serving of food.
Please remember, you cannot take a new plate until it has been placed in the recycling bin.
6. When all seats are occupied, please do not linger in the cafeteria or eat standing up. Pack your food and take it back to your dormitory to eat as soon as possible.
The cafeteria rules seem to run parallel to the school rules.
Kijima Suzuka suddenly had a thought: Could it be... that even the cafeteria at the Demon World School is outsourced?
Article 3 of the cafeteria rules explicitly contradicts the school's rules:
[3. The cafeteria is open 24 hours a day, so you can stay or rest here at any time.] In other words, the cafeteria is safe as long as there are seats available, and you can stay here at any time; it can even function as a dormitory.
