Chapter 292 Feigning Smile

The candlelight flickered in the bedroom, casting the silhouettes of two people embracing behind the thin silk curtains.

Su Wan leaned her head against Wei Jingzhuo's broad, firm chest and gently touched the red mark on his chest.

The faint marks on the fair skin, like a wisp of smoke, are the marks of love, proof of love.

Wei Jingzhuo's body was hot, like the warm sun of spring. Her body, however, was cool, like the cold dew of an autumn night. She had to press her whole body against Wei Jingzhuo and cling to him tightly to draw warmth from him.

"It's so warm," she joked, pressing her slender legs against Wei Jingzhuo's body and hugging him tightly, like a soft vine wrapped around a sturdy tree trunk. "You're my hand warmer."

Wei Jingzhuo opened his eyes, his gaze burning with desire: "Then let's do it again."

Su Wan's bright eyes widened in surprise, her eyelashes trembling as she said, "Didn't we just finish? So fast..."

Her gaze fell on Wei Jingzhuo's lower body, and her previously subdued state had somehow transformed into one of vigorous activity. Her face immediately turned red.

Wei Jingzhuo rolled over and pinned her beneath him, cupping her face in his hands as he said, "I know you've been unwell for so many days, that's why I've held back until now. Once isn't enough."

Su Wan reached out and hooked her arm around Wei Jingzhuo's neck, chuckling softly, "You rascal, old habits die hard. You start acting recklessly as soon as you see I'm feeling better."

Laughter echoed like tiny silver bells in the night, clear and melodious, which made Wei Jingzhuo's movements become rougher, spreading her legs apart.

She was about to wrap her legs around Wei Jingzhuo's waist as before when she suddenly trembled and put her legs down again.

She had been in a daze for days and only then did she realize that she was in her fertile period.

Wei Jingzhuo's eyes flashed, and he said softly, "You don't want to?"

A barely perceptible hint of panic flashed across Su Wan's delicate eyebrows. She turned her face away from Wei Jingzhuo's gaze and said, "It's nothing. I... I accidentally thought of the Ghost Army. It's really scary."

Wei Jingzhuo didn't continue. He propped himself up and sat on the edge of the bed, saying, "I'll have the imperial physician brew some calming medicine for you to nourish your body."

Su Wan also sat up, lifted the silk curtain and hung it on the hook, saying, "No need to trouble the imperial physician. I am the best doctor. I can just take some medicine myself. Can't you see I'm much better already?"

Wei Jingzhuo remained silent.

Su Wan opened her arms and hugged Wei Jingzhuo's body, pressing her face against his back: "Actually, when I'm not feeling well, you... you can also take some concubines into the palace."

Wei Jingzhuo said, "I don't want any other women, I only want to be good to you."

Su Wan said in a low voice, "Throughout history, which emperor has not had concubines? He could have chosen some dignified and virtuous women to enter the palace."

Wei Jingzhuo turned around, pulled her into his arms, and said, "I know you're testing me. You clearly don't like me having other women."

Su Wan looked up at his handsome face and said, "Those were all things I said when I was young and ignorant."

Wei Jingzhuo said, "Whether you tell me or not, I will not take a concubine. I want the whole world to know that you are the only one in my heart. From birth to death, I will never regret it."

Su Wan sighed softly and whispered, "Ah Jin, Ah Jin."

The voice of Granny Cui rang out from the doorway: "Your Majesty, the Prime Minister has urgent business to attend to and is waiting outside the palace gate."

Wei Jingzhuo released Su Wan and said coldly, "It's so late, what important matter needs to be discussed in the middle of the night?"

"This old servant does not know."

"Then let him come tomorrow. I need to speak with the Empress."

Su Wan stopped Cui Mama and said to Wei Jingzhuo, "Your Majesty, you are now the ruler of the country and should prioritize national affairs. The Prime Minister is old and frail; you should go and see him. Don't make everyone wait so long again, like last time."

Wei Jingzhuo asked, "The time I held you while you slept?"

Su Wan smiled, turned around, took the clothes and draped them over Wei Jingzhuo's back: "I hope Your Majesty will not disappoint these loyal ministers. I will personally help Your Majesty dress."

Wei Jingzhuo did not refute, and obediently stretched out his hand for Su Wan to put the sleeves on.

After Su Wan helped Wei Jingzhuo get dressed, she also got dressed and saw Wei Jingzhuo out of the bedroom.

Granny Cui had already led more than ten palace maids waiting outside, some carrying clothes, some carrying washbasins, all waiting to go in and serve him. Su Wan didn't give any instructions, so no one dared to go in. As a result, Wei Jingzhuo came out already dressed.

Granny Cui was terrified. These were things that servants usually did, so why was the Empress doing them herself? She quickly led everyone to kneel down and said, "Your Majesty, Your Majesty the Empress, please forgive this old servant for her negligence."

Wei Jingzhuo didn't say much. The affairs of the inner palace were under Su Wan's jurisdiction, and he wouldn't interfere. He walked straight outside. Lin Qingfeng and a group of guards greeted him as they headed towards the palace gate.

Seeing the people kneeling on the floor inside the room, Su Wan said, "You are all innocent, get up. Granny Cui, come inside and have a word with me."

Granny Cui got up and told the palace maids to leave and wait outside. She then followed Su Wan to the room next door.

Su Wan sat down first and said to Granny Cui, "Granny, please sit down."

Granny Cui said, "With Her Majesty the Empress here, how can this old servant have the right to sit?"

She was a self-aware person. The past was the past; now Su Wan was the Empress, and she could not overstep her bounds.

Su Wan smiled and said, "Granny Cui, you are different from outsiders. When I got married, you were the one who led the wedding procession. Don't be shy, sit down."

Granny Cui had served Wei Jingzhuo since his exile, and she and Lin Qingfeng were both loyal subordinates. On her wedding day, when she had a major falling out with Su Heng and his wife, it was Granny Cui who came to her rescue.

Seeing that Su Wan didn't seem to mind, Granny Cui boldly sat down and started chatting with her. She was good at small talk, and after telling a few jokes, Su Wan's pale face improved considerably, and a blush appeared.
