Transmigrated to become a maid in the household of the Fourth Prince Hongli, Su Yushan trembled. She realized that when Hongli later ascended the throne as Emperor, she was highly likely to become ...
A few days ago, when Su Jiafeng was working as a waitress at Baozhen Restaurant, there were too many customers that day, and He Yuning also helped out. However, she stepped on some oily food, slipped, and accidentally fell down the stairs!
Seeing this, Su Jiafeng was worried that she might have hurt herself, so she immediately rushed over, picked her up, and ran to the nearby clinic.
Fortunately, the doctor treated her in time, so there was nothing seriously wrong. However, He Yunning injured her left leg and had to rest for half a month.
Su Jiafeng thought it was just a small favor and didn't take it seriously, but Manager He felt it was a big deal, because it was broad daylight and he had carried He Yuning all the way in front of everyone. Manager He felt that his daughter's reputation was ruined, so he discussed with him the idea of marrying Yuning.
Su Jiafeng was so eager to save lives that he didn't think much about it. When Manager He suddenly asked him to marry Miss He, he was completely stunned!
At this point, Yu Chan covered her mouth and laughed, "I was worried that my second brother wouldn't be able to find a wife! Now that someone is willing to marry their daughter to him, he is truly blessed."
Su Yushan had also heard of this restaurant. "I heard that Baozhen Restaurant is doing very well. Manager He has been in business for so many years, he must be very shrewd. Why would he be willing to marry his daughter to someone from out of town? Besides, our family is of ordinary background, and Jiafeng is not a rich young master. Doesn't Manager He mind?"
"I guess Manager He must know that you are the Fourth Master's favorite concubine, so he wants to take this opportunity to facilitate this marriage."
Favored concubine? That's how the world defines her, but Su Yushan feels she doesn't deserve that title.
In her mind, a favored concubine should be delicate, charming, and obedient, knowing how to please others. However, she lacked self-awareness and, despite being a prince's concubine, stubbornly tried to retain a shred of backbone, which was both stubborn and ridiculous.
At first, Hongli would try to coax her, but few men could endure such long-term neglect. Su Yushan felt that before long, Hongli would become impatient with her and probably would stop coming here all day long.
That's for the best. He left voluntarily, so she can't be blamed. She can just live her own life. It's just that the servants aren't very attentive, and the porridge they bring isn't hot, but she won't go hungry.
Recalling her first arrival, she tried hard to please Hongli just to get a hot meal, but later she became deeply entangled in the situation, giving him her heart and ending up heartbroken.
After all that turmoil, she suddenly felt that just having some warm porridge was fine; at least she wouldn't be troubled by love and torment herself.
Distracted, she forgot to reply until she heard Yu Chan's voice again, at which point she remembered that they were talking about Jia Feng.
If Manager He truly favored Su Jiafeng because she was associated with the Fourth Prince, that would be understandable. However, Su Yushan was more concerned about Manager He's attitude.
"What does Miss He think of Jia Feng? Is she willing to marry Jia Feng?"
"I don't know Miss He very well, but I've met her a few times. She's decisive and generous in her actions, and not at all pretentious. I like her very much. At first, she seemed to take good care of my second brother, but later, I don't know why, she stopped paying attention to him."
I asked my second brother, and he said it was because of Xin'er's matter. He had misunderstood Miss He, and she was still angry with him, so she didn't want to talk to him.
"Since he gets angry, he must care a little, right?" Su Yushan wasn't sure, just guessing. "What about Jiafeng? Xin'er has been gone for so long, surely he wouldn't still be thinking about her? Does he have any feelings for Miss He?"
"I asked him that too, but he only said that he was a poor boy and not good enough for Miss He, and that he was unwilling to climb the social ladder. He wouldn't say anything more."
Su Yushan pondered to herself, Jia Feng hadn't said he disliked her, only that he didn't dare to presume upon her. Perhaps he had developed feelings for Miss He over the past six months.
"Regardless of what Manager He and Jiafeng think, the most important thing is Miss He's opinion. If she is willing to marry, that would be a good thing. If she is not willing, then our Su family cannot use this matter to blackmail her."
Yu Chan shook her head helplessly and corrected, "Second Brother didn't threaten anyone! He didn't want to take advantage of others in their distress. It's Manager He who's threatening us now!"
So, it seems we're in a dilemma—neither advancing nor retreating is an option! After thinking for a moment, Su Yushan asked again, "What did my elder brother say?"
With a slight pursing of her cherry lips, Yu Chan whispered, "My eldest brother is a man who values etiquette very much. His thoughts are similar to Manager He's; he believes that my second brother should take responsibility. Sister, what do you think we should do about this?"
This question shouldn't be asked of her, but rather of Miss He. After a moment's consideration, Su Yushan said, "I would like to see Miss He."
"Ah?" The older sister's idea is good, but it seems difficult to implement. "But this is the Fourth Master's residence. I was able to enter thanks to the Fourth Master's special permission. I reckon it will be difficult for Miss He to enter."
Su Yushan also felt melancholy. "She is not related to me, so it is really inconvenient for me to invite her, lest she be criticized. But I am trapped here all day and cannot go out. What should I do?"
Yu Chan asked curiously, "Didn't your brother-in-law take you to the western suburbs last time?"
Upon hearing this, Su Yushan immediately sensed something was amiss and corrected him, "Call me Fourth Master, not Brother-in-law. I am not his wife, so this form of address cannot be used carelessly."
Yu Chan didn't understand any of this; all she knew was that it was personally approved by the Fourth Master. "But the Fourth Master told me to call him brother-in-law!"
Hongli didn't mind, because no one in the manor dared to say anything to him. But Yu Chan's visit was bound to cause controversy, so Su Yushan had to be careful. "You can't call her that randomly, lest someone find something to use against you and file a complaint against you."
Yu Chan had come to cheer up her sister, so she couldn't cause her any trouble. Since this title was so important, Yu Chan stopped joking and said seriously, "Okay, I'll remember it."
