Chapter 71 Killing the Demon 11
Luther said nonchalantly, "You only just realized it now? With such a low IQ, do you think you're worthy of Inlai?"
Chen Ning, standing nearby, was amazed. Everyone says that when women argue, they're like crazy, unreasonable women, but men can be just as irrational.
She approached the captain of the guard, hoping to strike up a conversation.
The captain of the guards, looking utterly annoyed, his eyebrows twitching, roared at the two men, "Can't you shut up! Is your personal affection more important than the devil?! If you don't have that in mind, how about I kill Inlai to calm you down?!"
Luther's gaze was icy. "I advise you not to have such dangerous thoughts, or I wouldn't mind another soul dying under my arrow!"
Ados brandished his sword. "How about I send you to the Western Paradise right now?"
Chen Ning: "......"
She was really tired.
Whoosh whoosh——
Something made a soft rustling sound as it quickly passed through the grass.
Chen Ning's ears twitched, and he took a few steps outside. In the dim light, the rustling of the grass in the distance gradually became clearer.
Her expression changed. "The golden frog! The golden frog is here!"
Their speed was so fast that as soon as the words were spoken, a dozen or so golden frogs darted out of the grass, drew an arc in the air, and accurately bit the human's neck. With a snap of their sharp teeth, a large hole was torn in the neck, and blood immediately sprayed out, splattering onto the people and trees nearby.
The guard swayed, his eyes wide with resentment, and fell to the ground.
In the instant they met, three people were caught by the golden frogs. After landing, they formed a semi-circle and launched an attack on the humans. Chen Ning was so frightened that he hid behind them. Ados drew his longsword and blocked the attack of one of the golden frogs, while Luther shot arrows at him from behind, as if he were the vanguard.
Taking advantage of a moment of inattention, Ados dashed toward the carriage.
Lu Cen wasn't asleep when he suddenly heard fighting outside. His heart jumped into his throat. He pushed open a crack and saw two pale golden beasts leap onto the carriage shaft, ready to rush inside. Lu Cen screamed in fright and slammed the door shut and bolted it. But the golden frog's claws were sharp, and it shattered the openwork carriage window with a single blow. A violent cloud of dust rose and fell as it arched its back, opened its mouth, and charged in.
An arrow, swift as a shooting star, pierced through the golden frog's neck, pinning it firmly to the outside of the carriage. It whimpered twice, its bloodthirsty and savage eyes losing their color. Ados arrived just in time, finishing off the other frog with a single sword strike, and then pulled Lu Cen directly through the carriage window.
Lu Cen's leg scraped against the remaining wood on the car window, and he immediately screamed in pain, his face turning pale.
Ados, having brought Lucen and the others together, had a ruthless glint in his eyes. "There aren't many of these golden frogs. Kill them!"
The captain of the guards had a deep look in his eyes, sweat dripping from his forehead onto his cheeks and into the soil. He was less impulsive than usual, and more composed. "No! Move out immediately! A large number of golden frogs are coming from the south, heading towards the chasm!"
A few seconds later, countless golden frogs surged in like a tidal wave, and in an instant, they were right in front of us.
Ados looked at the captain of the guards for a few seconds. This man had been hiding his abilities all along. He hadn't even heard the golden frog's voice, but the other man had. His ears were extremely sensitive!
Ados pulled Lucen onto his horse and galloped off into the distance.
Chen Ning was protected by the guards in the middle, following behind them. When Lu De saw Lu Cen being taken away, he did not linger and leaped onto his horse.
Running wildly at night increases the danger exponentially.
Lu Cen was hit many times by different branches, his heart pounding wildly. He looked back as he turned a corner and saw the golden frogs chasing after him relentlessly. One of the guards, who was lagging behind, was even stopped in the middle by a thick branch and fell into the swarm of golden frogs, disappearing from sight in a moment.
Lu Cen trembled, gripping the saddle tightly. He said in a panic, "Running like this isn't going to work, we'll be caught!"
Ados knew perfectly well that they were still half a day away from the insurmountable barrier, and that distant water couldn't quench their immediate thirst. Gritting his teeth, Ados tightened the reins and changed direction, "Follow me!"
In the forest, only the Galo Guards were truly familiar with the area. As a member, Ados naturally remembered the locations of each spot. After running for about half an hour, they arrived at a soft, damp area. He had everyone abandon their horses and cracked the whips a few times. The horses, startled, continued to run forward. Ados then led the group to the left for two minutes. A patch of short, green plants grew densely, and a large tree lay fallen in the middle, its trunk mostly hollow. Ados stepped steadily onto the tree and, holding Lucen's hand, said, "Climb up the tree and don't make a sound."
Reaching the middle of the tree, where branches multiplied, Adosto helped Lucen climb up. In less than a minute, the group was hidden among the dense foliage, not revealing a trace. Lucen lay on a huge branch, listening to the golden frogs rushing away into the distance.
It's a pity about those horses.
The soil below was soft and bubbling. Lu Cen whispered, "Where is this?"
Ados supported him, saying, "Don't move around. There's a swamp below. If you fall in, you won't be able to get up."
Lu Cen was startled and squeezed her legs together.
Luther was also on the same tree, looking at Lucen with concern, "Are you hurt?"
Lu Cen was reminded and all his senses returned to normal. Pain, soreness, and discomfort assaulted him all at once, regardless of whether he could bear it.
"My leg hurts a little."
"Let me see." Luther pulled up his trouser leg and saw a scratch on his fair calf, about two centimeters long, still bleeding. Luther knew what had happened at a glance. He glanced at Ados with displeasure, took out a bottle from his bag, and sprinkled some medicine powder on the wound. Lu Cen made a "rip" sound and his body trembled twice in pain.
"Just bear with it, it will be over soon."
Chen Ning asked, "Are you alright?"
"It's nothing," Lu Cen replied, though her eyes were red and swollen from the pain.
Ados knew he was in the wrong and said nothing.
Captain of the Guard: "A little later, we need to send a few people back."
Ados shared the same thought. They had neither horses nor supplies, and if they rashly set off on foot, they would likely be torn to shreds before even reaching their destination. In the latter half of the night, the group moved away from the swamp and found a deep cave as a temporary resting place. Ados took two people with him on the return journey. He had no choice; only Ados knew the details best, and he had to go.
He wasn't entirely comfortable handing Lucen over to Luther, who scoffed, "I won't be as useless as you and hurt him."
The cave was naturally formed. They lit two fires deep inside. Above them were densely packed, milky-white rock spikes. Lu Cen was very timid. He stared at the cave, wondering where it led. He had a feeling that something terrifying was hidden inside. He huddled against the rock wall, anxiously hugging his legs.
"What's wrong?" Luther moved closer to him and touched his hand. "Are you cold?"
Lu Cen whispered, "I have a feeling there's something inside."
The others were either sitting or lying down, and the cave was completely silent. Luther walked a short distance away, observed for a while, and then came back and said, "There's nothing there. You can sleep peacefully."
Although he had only seen it up close a few times, Luther's words reassured Lucen, and he lay down against the hard stone wall, using Luther's animal skin as a pillow.
In a daze, Lu Cen heard someone get up rustlingly, walk through the crowd and out of the cave. After a while, they came back, bringing a cool breeze. Lu Cen guessed that they must have gone to relieve themselves. He wrapped his clothes tighter and turned over.
Whether it was due to the influence of that person before falling asleep or not, Lu Cen felt a bloating in her lower abdomen as she slept, and even in her dream she was searching for a toilet. Lu Cen's consciousness awoke from her deep sleep; the fire in the middle of the cave was still burning. The guard on night duty at the cave entrance heard the noise and turned around, "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to the restroom."
The guards ignored him.
Lu Cen, however, looked out at the dark woods and dared not go out.
He turned around and shook Luther awake, begging him to accompany him to the toilet. Luther instantly became alert and walked ahead of him. The guards looked at him strangely, probably thinking that Lu Cen was keeping Ados on his leash while still having an affair with Luther. Lu Cen didn't care what the guards were thinking; he was about to burst.
After walking about a hundred meters, using the trees for cover, Lu Cen pulled down his pants and let out a long sigh of relief.
While his hips were still shaking, a strong arm pulled him to the side. Lu Cen was shocked and staggered backward, his pants sliding down to his knees. "Wait, wait, my pants, my pants!"
His shoulder felt like it was being gripped by a huge, sharp claw, and he couldn't move. Lu Cen gasped. Lu De looked so refined, but he was so strong. The pain made his scalp tingle. He tried to pry it open, but the other man's fingers seemed to be attached to his body. He didn't know what had suddenly gone crazy, so he could only hold his breath and pull up his pants with one hand.
"What are you doing?!" Lu Cen asked angrily.
"You and Ados..." Luther's eyes were bloodshot, his mind consumed by rage. He was about to question him, but then realized his tone was too harsh, so he forced himself to use a gentler approach and asked, "Did Ados do anything inappropriate to you?"
Lu Cen didn't react immediately and asked blankly, "What kind of inappropriate action?"
"Just like now."
That's how it is now?
Lucen stared at Luther, increasingly confused.
The silvery moonlight draped the forest in a transparent cloak, and the two stood facing each other in the shadows.
Luther understood without needing an answer. He put his arm around Lu Cen's shoulder, as if it were nothing out of the ordinary. He must have been treated like this many times before. When the golden frogs attacked that night, Ados arrived at Lu Cen's side even faster than him, so tense, so anxious, and so panicked, afraid that something might happen to Lu Cen.
There is affection between them.
Luther felt it; the more he thought about it, the more his heart was filled with anxiety and torment. He was unwilling to admit his jealousy and the pain of being betrayed by his partner. These emotions formed countless arrows, invisiblely piercing his body, his bright red heart, and his reason.
He had known Inlai for many years, but had always maintained proper etiquette and never done anything inappropriate.
In his youth, he reduced his visits to the Earl's manor, and later stopped going altogether. He keenly sensed a change in the Earl's attitude towards him, and he knew why: they felt he was not good enough for Inlai, that Inlai deserved a better match than a poor boy like him.
He was unwilling to accept it and was in unbearable pain.
He hated the Earl and his wife for their coldness, and he also hated himself for being so incompetent.
