Chapter 36 Identity
Kris and Nuhra had laughed enough and calmed down. Nuhra stood up from the sofa, walked over to Kris, and put her arm around his shoulders. "Okay, let's put this behind us for now. I don't think he'll bother you for a while."
Chris's shoulders visibly slumped, and he sighed in relief, complaining to Nuhra, "Oh, this is making me hungry."
Nuhra glanced at the time display. It was almost time for lunch, so she offered, "Let's go. It's a rare visit to the military headquarters. I'll take you to try some of the local specialties."
"Oh?" Kris was intrigued. He stood up from Nuhra's embrace and returned to the table to pick up the terminal. "I'm looking forward to it. Shall we go now?"
Nuhra had a gentle expression on her face and was standing by the door waiting for him. Chris grabbed the terminal and walked out of the office with Nuhra.
Chris didn't feel anything at first in the office, but when he walked out of the door, he ran into a few clerks walking quickly with documents, and Chris felt a little embarrassed.
He consciously slowed his pace, walking half a body length slower than Nuhra. Nuhra, ever attentive, naturally noticed this. Once they were in the elevator, Nuhra softly asked, "What's wrong? Why are you slowing down so suddenly?"
Chris wiped his face with his hand and spoke carefully, "I feel a little embarrassed. After all, everyone can see that my uniform is different from yours..."
Nuhra chuckled, patted Corris's back gently, and explained, "It's okay. Military cadets are essentially part of the Imperial Army. There's nothing wrong with that."
Chris could only nod reluctantly, unsure if he'd truly understood. Nuhra had been with him for so long that she'd naturally figured out some patterns. She knew that if she gave Chris some time, he'd figure things out on his own. For now, she just needed to quietly stay by his side and comfort him...
Kris seemed to be still thinking, but the elevator had already reached the floor Nuhra had chosen. The two walked into the corridor. Kris looked at the somewhat familiar furnishings and asked puzzledly, "Where is this?"
"The Officers' Club and banquet hall are on this floor. We're having the Officers' Club's special dish today," Nuhra said casually, not forgetting to mention what Chris was most concerned about. "The club's pastry chef's fresh fruit lava tart is absolutely amazing. I think you're sure to like it."
When Chris heard the word dessert, his eyes lit up, but when he thought about going to a place like the Officers' Club, he felt a little scared. He reached out and grabbed Nuhra, and hesitated to speak.
Nuhra knew he was still thinking about what he had just said, so she took a step back and walked side by side with Corris. She said, "Don't worry, the club has private rooms for senior officers... Come to think of it, you've been here before?"
Upon hearing this, Corris searched his brain for all his memories of this place, but only vague fragments could be found. He shook his head helplessly, "Okay, but I really don't remember anything about it."
Nuhra and Corris walked along the corridor, passing by the private rooms of other officers. Some of the doors were locked tightly, while some had a crack in the door, through which they could vaguely see the figures moving around inside.
Corris didn't dare to look around, for fear of seeing something he shouldn't see. He kept his eyes on his nose and his nose on his heart, and subconsciously stayed close to Nuhra beside him.
Fortunately, this situation did not last long, and they finally arrived at Nuhra's private room. This private room was indeed located at the back, in the middle and back part of the entire corridor.
The smart access control system successfully recognized Nuhra's iris, the door of the private room slowly opened, and the lights in the room lit up. The decoration style of the entire room was bright and simple.
Nuhra turned sideways and made a "come in" gesture, while Chris entered the house cautiously, looking around at the furnishings inside.
Nuhra's eyes fell squarely on Corris, and she said with a smile, "When you fainted at the banquet before, you happened to faint here."
"This corridor is cut off in the middle, connecting the club and the banquet hall, forming a cross-shaped structure...so you will walk into this corridor after coming out of the banquet hall." Nuhra explained the structure of this floor to Chris, who seemed to understand it.
However, as Nuhra continued to narrate, some scenes from that time came to Chris's mind. He nodded thoughtfully without saying anything.
The door closed, and now they were the only two in the room, Chris seemed much more relaxed. He plopped down on the sofa, and Nuhra followed suit.
Chris was sitting quietly, but suddenly he seemed to remember something funny and chuckled softly.
"What fun things have you thought of?" While waiting for the dishes to be served, the robotic arm brought the two of them aperitifs. Nuhra raised the glass and took a sip, not missing Chris's smile from the corner of her eye.
"I found that you seem to be very good at playing the type of... uh, lustful person." Chris smiled obviously, as if this discovery really hit his funny bone.
It took Nuhra a moment to react and respond to what he was saying. She smiled and casually explained, "If you meet more people like this, you'll naturally be able to act... Coincidentally, many of the people I've worked with are of this type."
"Besides, you're very beautiful," Nuhra said half-seriously, staring at Corris. "It's hard not to be lustful."
Chris was a little surprised to hear this. He didn't expect Nuhra to see him this way. In Chris's own eyes, Nuhra was the one who made him more lustful.
He recalled the touch of Nuhra's warm and powerful body when she was sitting on his legs, and the subtle woody fragrance on her body, which was soft and mellow...Chris's ears couldn't help but turn red with shyness.
The atmosphere was tense for a moment, and Chris opened and closed his mouth, not knowing what to say. Fortunately, the dishes they had been waiting for finally arrived, effectively changing the subject for Chris.
As soon as he saw these delicious dishes, Chris immediately threw everything else out of his mind and focused all his attention on them, which made Nuhra laugh and cry.
It was a rare occasion for Nuhra to have dinner with Chris today, but she didn't eat too much. After she was full, she chose to watch the other person in front of her eat heartily.
"Don't be anxious, eat slowly. You can add more if it's not enough." Nuhra watched Corris wolfing down his food and advised him softly.
"It's so delicious! And there are so many things I haven't tried!" Chris couldn't stop eating, and he didn't forget Nuhra sitting across from him, "You eat too."
"The club's chef specializes in specialty dishes. The ingredients are all local specialties from various star systems within the empire, and the dishes are quite innovative." Nuhra saw a little crumb stuck to the corner of Corris's mouth and leaned forward to remove it with her fingers. "I'm full."
Feeling the warmth of Nuhra's fingertips, Chris reacted belatedly and took the napkin beside him to wipe the corner of his mouth.
After hearing what Nuhra said, he finally felt a little full. Chris also put down his cutlery and looked forward to it. He was really looking forward to the desserts here.
Not long after, the robotic arm placed two plates precisely in front of them. As they lifted the lid, Nuhra frowned, "This isn't what we ordered."
The intelligent assistant in the room politely responded, "This is a little gift from Captain Samantha for you two."
Chris didn't understand what she meant, so he lowered his head and looked at the cake in front of him - it was a heart-shaped pastry, perhaps mixed with some flower petals or fruits, and the whole cake was covered with pink cream.
After completing his observation, Corris looked up at Nuhra across from him. His expression remained unchanged. Upon hearing the message relayed by the intelligent system, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly, and he responded appropriately, "Thank Captain Samantha for my kindness. If she's free, please come to my training room this afternoon for a meeting."
Chris was a little worried. He had no idea who Samantha was, and he had no idea why she'd suddenly sent them something. After the intelligent system went into sleep mode, Chris asked, "Who is Captain Samantha...?"
Nuhra, as if nothing had happened, scooped a small piece of the exquisite pastry in front of her with a dessert spoon and began to savor it. Hearing Corris's question, he calmly explained, "She's Samantha de Fontaine, Captain of the Royal Guard. Although the Royal Guard and the Imperial Army are administratively equal, the Captain of the Guard actually holds an Imperial rank, so she's considered part of the Imperial Army."
"So that's why she is here?" Seeing that Nuhra had eaten it, Coris felt relieved and began to enjoy the gift.
"Yes, she might have just seen us coming." Nuhra said noncommittally, "She and I are pretty compatible colleagues. Samantha has always been loyal to His Majesty the Emperor, so there's no need to worry too much."
Chris understood that Nuhra meant that Samantha was a friend, not an enemy, but because of their slightly different positions, some things could not be mentioned in front of her.
"I'm a little curious, what kind of organization is the Royal Guard?" Coris had let down his guard in front of Nuhra and asked whatever he thought of without any scruples.
Nuhra pondered for a moment, then formulated his words carefully and slowly. "They are considered His Majesty's personal guards. They are numerous, equivalent to a regular army. Their primary duty is to protect the capital planet and complete missions directly assigned by the Emperor."
Chris nodded, with a guess in his mind. Samantha's sudden appearance in front of the two of them probably meant that the emperor had long been aware of the mess such as the collusion between the Rui Lisi and Nar families.
"Should I go to the training room with you in the afternoon?" When he said this, Chris couldn't help feeling uneasy.
"Of course, she's wanted to meet you for a long time," Nuhra raised an eyebrow, a warm smile on her face. "When you first came to live in my house, she might have guessed that there was someone like you, but she just didn't know it was you."
"Ah!" Chris was shocked and strangely felt nervous as if he was about to meet the parents.
Nuhra noticed his nervousness and reached out to wrap her hand around Kris's clenched fist on the table. "Don't worry too much. She's quite easy to get along with, but..."
"But what?" Chris's facial muscles were tense and his voice tone was a little higher.
"She's just teasing us all the time," Nuhra said sincerely. "If we make her laugh, she might even give us some information..."
"So bear with it, dear." Nuhra said sadly.
