Chapter 827 Return Journey

The plane took off, and none of the three disturbed Zhang Hongmei, who had her eyes closed. They all followed her example and closed their eyes to rest.

During the thirteen-hour journey, Zhang Hongmei only drank two glasses of milk. All three of them were a little worried; this wouldn't do, but there was nothing they could do.

Zhang Hongmei didn't eat, and the three of them also lost their appetite, feeling particularly depressed.

The plane finally landed. Zeng Zhongkang, holding the documents for the four people, bought tickets to fly to X for the next afternoon.

Zhang Hongmei lay in bed, unable to sleep. She was filled with the urgency to go home and the reluctance to part with Annie and Daniel.

He took out paper, pen, and a book and wrote a letter to Zhang Shouyi: "Brother Zhang, we have arrived in Y country. Our flight is at 2 pm tomorrow, and we should arrive the day after tomorrow."

Zhang Shouyi didn't tell Zhang Hongmei that he was about to arrive in G City. His wife was coming back; he had made preparations ten days in advance. How could he not come to pick her up? He missed her so much.

After reading his wife's letter, he immediately replied, "Honey, I'm waiting for you to come home!"

Those few words were the best comfort to Zhang Hongmei. Yes, she had to go home. There will be many partings in life, but this time the distance is too far, though it doesn't mean there's no chance of seeing each other again.

Because she was away from home, Zhang Hongmei stopped writing letters and started reading.

The next morning, Zeng Zhongkang knocked on the door, and the four of them ate breakfast together.

The three of them felt that Zhang Hongmei seemed to be much better. "Zeng Zhongkang, why don't you take them both out for a walk? We can't just be passing by, can we?"

The three shook their heads. "Let's not. We'll just wait here. Besides, we're not really curious about this place."

The main concern is that something might happen. Right now, nothing is more important than going home.

Zhang Hongmei stopped trying to persuade them. She felt a sense of aversion towards Country Y, perhaps because of the lingering trauma from what happened last time.

After lunch, Cheng Guangxu urged them to go to the airport to wait.

"We're just waiting no matter where we are. Going to the airport is the safest option."

Our flight was at 2 PM. The four of us arrived at 1 PM, sat there, and watched the people coming and going at the airport.

Finally, the announcement came that tickets could be checked, and the four of them were first in line.

They boarded the plane smoothly. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. They were closer to home.

When the four of them stood at X's airport, they all had smiles on their faces.

Zeng Zhongkang looked around and noticed someone holding a large sign with Cheng Guangxu's name on it. He alerted the three of them.

The person in charge of receiving them was a middle-aged man, tall and imposing, who stood out from the crowd.

"The four of you have tickets for the ferry in two hours, and another for 8 a.m. tomorrow. What do you think?"

Zeng Zhongkang said, "How about two hours from now?"

"Okay, let's take a car there."

Zhang Hongmei tried out a rickshaw. She thought it was pretty good; at least she could see the buildings clearly.

It's 2 PM now. The manager led them into the tea restaurant.

The four of them ate a few bites, but their minds had already flown back to their hometown; even the delicious food couldn't entice them.

After resting for a while after the meal, we set off.

Upon arriving at the port, he said, "You four wait here, I'll go buy the tickets."

Finally, the ship set sail. Cheng Guangxu excitedly grabbed Cai Peilin's hand, "We're finally going home!"

Cai Peilin dismissively shook him off, saying, "You can wait until you get off the ship before you get excited."

"How could you do this? This boat will only take less than an hour."

None of the three paid him any attention. Zhang Hongmei gazed at the sea outside the window, feeling a pang of homesickness.

I felt a little disbelieving, yet incredibly excited, as I was about to set foot on their homeland. That meant I was home. Thinking of everything back home, a smile spread across my face.

The three of them were relieved to see her smiling face. Finally, she looked happy again. They had been really worried about her all the way here.

The four of them disembarked with the crowd. Cheng Guangxu jumped up excitedly, "We're finally home! Hahahaha!"

His exaggerated movements and laughter attracted a lot of attention.

Zhang Shouyi kept an eye on the exit while on the bus. When he saw his beloved wife, he immediately got off the bus.

Xiao Li was getting anxious; with so many people, the leader was really being too capricious.

Following closely behind, Zhang Shouyi walked through the crowd and headed straight for Zhang Hongmei.

As if sensing something, Zhang Hongmei suddenly looked over. She immediately spotted Zhang Shouyi striding towards her.

Now all she could see was him; his steady gait and his eyes fixed on her were striking Zhang Hongmei's heart.

Zeng Zhongkang noticed that Zhang Hongmei had stopped moving. Following her gaze, he saw someone striding towards him. His heart was filled with bitterness.

In those few steps, Zhang Shouyi reached Zhang Hongmei and embraced her tightly. He whispered in her ear, "Wife, wife, I've finally waited for you."

Cheng Guangxu was startled. Why was someone hugging Zhang Hongmei? But then he was startled again when he looked closer. The leader had come over?

"Brother Zhang, I'm back. I'm really back!"

"Yes, let's go home."

Cai Peilin knew everything. At first, she wanted to beat up that thug, but when she saw Zeng Zhongkang's bitter face and Cheng Guangxu's frightened expression, she realized that this was Zhang Hongmei's husband.

Zhang Hongmei finally realized they were outside and struggled slightly. Zhang Shouyi released her, but still held her hand and nodded to Zeng Zhongkang and the other two.

He took Zhang Hongmei's hand and turned to leave. The three of them followed behind, each with their own thoughts.

Xiao Li hurriedly opened the car door and nodded to Zhang Hongmei.

Zeng Zhongkang and the other two sat in the car behind.

"The leader came to pick me up personally," Cheng Guangxu muttered to himself.

The other two were in no mood to pay him any attention. They were both lost in their own thoughts.

Zhang Shouyi got into the car and hugged Zhang Hongmei tightly, saying, "Wife, I've missed you so much. There will be no more of this."

Zhang Hongmei's face instantly turned bright red. "Let go of me."

"I won't let go. Honey, don't you miss me?"

The way that young wife spoke made Xiao Li's hands slip on the steering wheel.

Zhang Hongmei was even more embarrassed now. All her excitement had vanished.

She whispered in Zhang Shouyi's ear, "Let go of me, there are people ahead."

Zhang Shouyi imitated Zhang Hongmei's actions, whispering in her ear, "So that means it's okay if no one's around?"

Knowing that Zhang Hongmei was easily embarrassed, and afraid that she would get angry, he was reluctant to let go of her hand, but he still held onto her hand tightly.

The military base is not far from the port. It takes about fifteen minutes to get there.

"Wife, we'll set off tomorrow morning and rest tonight."

"Mmm." Zhang Hongmei was completely unable to calm down. She thought she wouldn't see him for another ten days or so, but she didn't expect him to come in person. Now, all she could do was pound her heart.
