When she was 8 years old—
Father brought home a boy. Little Chen Yu thought he was here to steal her father away. His name was Shen Yan.
Little Chen Yu tried all sorts of ways to to...
[Yang: Ahem, just to clarify the rumor from last night, Ma Qi just accidentally fell from the building, she didn't die.]
[Moon: Damn it, I knew your information was unreliable.]
[Yang: Isn't this just a case of the know-it-all having an accident? Hahaha.]
[Yue: Seriously, I'm speechless. If Ma Qi knew that she was being talked about like this behind her back, she'd probably be furious.]
[Yang: Whatever. If she gets angry, it just confirms my rumors.]
[Yang: I'm so bored, wanna go online?]
[Moon: Where's Chen Yu? I haven't seen her all day. Let's call her out to go online together.]
[Fish: Sorry everyone, I'm on the farm now, my phone just turned on.]
[Yang: When did you go to the farm?]
[fish: Just yesterday.]
Chen Yu didn't chat much. She left the group chat and started replying to private messages, which were mostly from her parents or Chen Le, or other classmates asking her questions.
The weather outside the window started to clear up, and Chen Le made a call to Chen Yu's cell phone.
"Hey, Uncle?"
"Xiaoyu, the typhoon is over. I'll be heading back tonight, but you and Xiaoyan will have to eat by yourselves."
"Is that all? That was fast. Okay, got it."
Chen Yu didn't waste any more words with Chen Le. She hung up the phone, opened the curtains, and glanced out. The previously dark sky had indeed cleared up. Excitedly, she ran downstairs, opened the door, and rushed out. The air outside was crisp and carried the scent of grass.
Shen Yan frowned as he watched Chen Yu playing around on the lawn from upstairs. He really couldn't understand what was so fun about running around. He thought it would be better to learn more. He didn't continue watching what Chen Yu was doing and instead lowered his head to continue reading his book.
The sky had turned blue with white clouds. Chen Yu ran into the forest. She remembered that when she was a child, she loved going to the wooden house in the forest. She broke off a blade of grass and skipped over to it. It was definitely more fun when she was a child.
After crossing several streams, she saw the wooden house. She skillfully climbed up. Although there was nothing inside, she still liked to stay there. Chen Yu was still immersed in her memories when she heard a rustling sound on the lawn below. She peeked out and saw a squirrel hopping around with fruit in its arms. Its eyes held a hint of provocation as it slowly walked away from Chen Yu's sight.
Chen Yu was stunned for a moment. She looked at the squirrel's location and realized that she had been provoked by a small animal. She quickly climbed down the wooden ladder. The squirrel did not run away when it saw her coming down, but stood there watching Chen Yu.
"Well, you little squirrel who can't even kill a chicken, how dare you provoke me!"
As if understanding her words, the squirrel threw the fruit in its hand, hitting Chen Yu squarely on the calf. She hissed in pain and limped toward the squirrel, beginning a game of cat and mouse.
Chen Yu chased the little squirrel deep into the forest. When she got tired, she wanted to find a place to rest. But when she looked up, she realized she was in an unfamiliar place. She was stunned for a moment before realizing something was wrong. She immediately started walking back the way she had come, but she couldn't find the way back after walking for a long time. Instead, she felt like she was in an even deeper place.
Chen Yu panicked for a moment. She took out her phone to check the map and follow the route, but she didn't expect that she had already gone quite far in. It would take some time to get out. She was glad that she had brought her phone. If she hadn't, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
After walking for a long time without finding a way out, and with his phone showing that the battery was dead, Chen Yu sat on a rock to rest for a while.
Looking at the unfamiliar surroundings and the gradually darkening sky, she suddenly felt a little anxious. She stood up, turned on her phone, and continued to follow the map, but the phone soon turned off. She followed the route from memory and froze at a fork in the road. She didn't remember seeing this fork on the map.
Chen Yu hesitated at the intersection for a moment, then relied on her sixth sense to walk down the right-hand road, praying in her heart that this was the right way. But obviously, things didn't go as planned, and she went the wrong way again. She had no idea where she was now, so she could only find a place to rest.
It had already gotten dark.
Shen Yan frowned as he looked at the sheep pen. He had been studying until after six in the afternoon when he remembered he had to cook dinner, so he went downstairs. To his surprise, he didn't see Chen Yu. He remembered seeing her on the lawn that afternoon. How could she have disappeared so suddenly? But he didn't think much of it. He just assumed that Chen Yu had gone out to play and would come back for dinner when it was time.
After waiting for an hour without seeing anyone, he sensed something was wrong, grabbed a flashlight, and went out.
"Chen Yu? Chen Yu! Where are you?"
Shen Yan shouted Chen Yu's name around the farm, searching every place but not finding him. He stood on the lawn, looking at the forest with some confusion. Had he run off to play? Just as he was about to set off to look for him, the little devil in his heart resurfaced.
Little Devil: "Why are you going to look for her? Isn't her disappearance just what you wanted? It would be better if she were dead."
Shen Yan: "Although I hate her, her crime doesn't warrant death..."
Little devil: "How does she usually treat you? She puts glue in your shoes, puts laxatives in your water cup, and even tears up your study materials. Aren't these capital offenses?"
As Shen Yan listened to the little devil's story, he suddenly fell silent. He didn't know whether he should go to find Chen Yu. He loathed her to the extreme. Just as the little devil said, it would be a good thing for him if she disappeared or died, but was it really a good thing? Shen Yan didn't know.
He waved to the chattering little devil beside him, turned on his flashlight, and resolutely walked into the forest; he still had a conscience.
