On the brink of the apocalypse, Zuo Ling is brought back to her distant relatives' Ding family and safely survives countless disasters through the chaos.
However, on the verge of death, s...
Liu Guojun carried Liu Bao'er on his back, praying that they wouldn't encounter anyone else; he really didn't want Liu Bao'er to go crazy again.
What I feared most came to pass: I ran right into a security team.
Security captain Feng Wei glanced at the basket in Liu Guojun's hand, "Hey, wild vegetables, where did you dig them up?"
"It's over there," Liu Guojun casually pointed in a direction.
Feng Wei knew Liu Bao'er's family and didn't suspect anything, smiling as he said:
"You're really lucky. Many people travel a long way and can't find even one, but you have several here."
He took a step closer, and the faint smell of blood in the air wafted into his nostrils, causing his expression to change.
Liu Bao'er lazily raised her head and glanced at Feng Wei. Feng Wei felt as if he had been pricked by a needle; his heart pounded, and the words he was about to say came out as:
"Have you seen any suspicious people around here?"
Liu Guojun tensed up and turned to look at Liu Bao'er. Liu Bao'er had her eyes closed and seemed very tired.
"No, I didn't see any. I did see a few people returning to base when I left the base."
His gaze swept over the two of them several times, but Feng Wei didn't ask any more questions.
After they walked away, one of the team members asked the other soldiers, "Do you think that basket in that man's hand looks familiar? I feel like I've seen it somewhere before."
Everyone looked at him, and one of the team members gestured, "The handle of the basket is wrapped with a circle of red sweater yarn. You guys have really never seen that before?"
Another team member exclaimed, "Yes, yes, I feel like I've seen this somewhere before. There are so many people coming and going, but I can't remember."
Feng Wei said, "Maybe what you saw was what the father and son were carrying."
"No, it's definitely not them. The Golden Doll family only arrived a few days ago. I saw that basket a long time ago. It's definitely not them."
The young soldier denied it.
Now that you mention it, I think I vaguely remember it.
The other young soldiers all said they had seen that basket somewhere before.
"Perhaps the Golden Doll family traded something with someone else to get it?"
Feng Wei proposed a possibility.
"Hmm...that's possible." The matter of the basket was thus put to rest.
Feng Wei then asked the others, "Can you smell blood?"
The soldiers sniffed the air intently. "No, can you smell it?"
"Captain, everyone knows you have a keen sense of smell. If you say it's there, then it definitely is."
Many people know that Feng Wei has a keen sense of smell; even the leaders jokingly say that Feng Wei has a dog's nose.
"Look around and see if there's anything unusual."
Feng Wei issued the order.
A while had passed, and in this open, deserted place, the faint smell of blood had long since dissipated. The soldiers searched for a long time but found nothing unusual.
Feng Wei frowned even more. He trusted his nose; his sense of smell had never been wrong.
"Maybe it's just my imagination," Feng Wei consoled himself.
"Let's go back first, it's time to hand over the shift."
As he turned to leave, Feng Wei couldn't help but glance back at the spot where he had found Liu Guojun and Liu Bao'er; his doubts remained.
Liu Bao'er and her companion hid in the shade, watching the security team gradually disappear into the distance.
Consider yourself lucky. If you were discovered, you'd be sent down to keep those two company.
Liu Guojun said in a low voice, "Elder, that guy who's leading the group is a bit troublesome. We'll have to be more careful from now on."
Liu Bao'er glanced at Liu Guojun out of the corner of her eye.
Liu Guojun suddenly felt a chill run down his spine, and quickly put on a forced smile, saying:
"How can we let a bunch of petty scoundrels interfere with the elder's recovery? Those who are an eyesore should go where they belong."
Liu Bao'er snorted and reached out to Liu Guojun, signaling him to carry her on his back and leave quickly.
Liu Guojun wiped the sweat from his forehead, inwardly groaning, "Oh God, when will this life of constant anxiety end?"
He was terrified, afraid that one day the elder would be in a bad mood and eat him up too, imagining himself reduced to a pile of hair and teeth...
Liu Guojun's vision blurred.
That day, after finishing her work, Zuo Ling and Pei Nansheng took the three little ones out.
They planned to stay outside for a few days to breathe some fresh air and relax.
As soon as they stepped out of the base gate, the three little ones ran up the mountain like wild horses.
The three children's emotions infected Pei Nansheng and Zuo Ling, who were also filled with childlike wonder and followed closely behind.
The dog was so excited, barking loudly, and took the lead.
Confined to the base all day, the little wolf's nature was suppressed, and he was already fed up with it. Given the chance to run and play to his heart's content, of course he would run to his heart's content.
The waterfall was too short to keep up with everyone, so it screamed in anger and cursed the bunch of disloyal people.
Although the little wolf was impatient, he stopped and waited for the waterfall to jump onto his back.
A sharp shriek came from the waterfall's mouth. "Run! Run! Catch them!" the little wolf howled as it charged forward.
The family ran quite a distance, until they were drenched in sweat, before they finally stopped.
Zuo Ling did a few chest-expanding and leg-kicking exercises. "It feels so good. I haven't felt this good in a long time."
The dog stood on its hind legs and draped itself over her. Pei Nansheng laughed at her, "Look at you, the dog is almost as tall as you."
Zuo Ling turned around and saw the dog standing upright, its big head almost level with hers.
"That's true."
Hug the dog's head, "Look how well I've taken care of you. You're lucky you met me, otherwise you'd be nothing but bones."
The dog nestled into Zuo Ling's arms, looking incredibly happy.
The little wolf was extremely jealous. It plopped the dog down to the side, stood up, wagged its tail, and gestured for Zuo Ling to pet its head.
