Chapter 35 Misplaced Anger
"President Luo," Cheng Zheng sent Luo Huayi a news pop-up, "the Zhou family is going to invest in this project?"
Luo Huayi had just come out of the bathroom when, outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, which were completely covered by curtains, the rain continued unabated, as if it were about to flood the city.
He was drying his hair while checking the messages sent by Cheng Guo.
"What is this..." Luo Huayi's brows furrowed. "A girls' academy?"
He then thought of what had happened when he was at the Zhou family's house.
At the time, Zhou Zichuan clearly had a big argument with him and went to the study, but after Luo Huayi and Xin Que came out of the strange incident of being trapped in a maze, Zhou Zichuan was not at the Zhou family home at all, according to Cheng Zheng.
They said they went to other places to inspect projects.
To this day, Luo Huayi is unsure whether his memory is faulty or if he has truly encountered a ghost.
Perhaps due to the brain's self-protection mechanism, the memory of the entanglement between the Zhou family and those wealthy individuals has become quite blurred in his mind.
Afterwards, Zhou Zichuan called him again, acting as if nothing had happened, and invited him to dinner and a get-together.
However, Luo Huayi has no intention of ever having any further dealings with Zhou Zichuan.
Zhou Zichuan was shocked when he heard the news that Luo Huayi wanted to sever diplomatic ties.
......
"Don't worry about the Zhou family anymore." Luo Huayi replied to Cheng Zheng with a headache.
Cheng Zheng replied that he had received it.
As Luo Huayi turned off the lights and got into bed, she listened to the raindrops hitting the French windows and gradually became sleepy.
The rain should stop when I wake up tomorrow.
......
"Tap!"
With a flick of her wrist, Xin Que sent the military knife flying, which landed firmly on the cabinet door behind the desk.
The woman then put her mask back on, pulled up the hood of her raincoat, and turned to leave.
After the rain stops, the real show begins.
......
In the latter half of the night, Director Wu and his men did not dare to split up and act again.
It wasn't until dawn, when no more people were killed, that Director Wu finally relaxed.
No matter how many times we called Vice President Zhang and President Ning, the couple's answer was always the same: we couldn't call the police.
He stretched his stiff body, but still didn't dare to let go of the riot fork in his hand.
The rain outside had lessened, but it hadn't stopped; it drizzled on and off, which was quite annoying.
The air was filled with an earthy smell, and the moisture made people feel extremely damp and uncomfortable.
Director Wu, along with a few of his trusted henchmen who were already numb with rage, went to deal with the corpse hanging on the second floor.
Perhaps stimulated by the successive deaths, these people's nerves were constantly on edge, and their emotions were on the verge of spiraling out of control.
No one spoke this time.
Everyone silently cleaned up the bloodstains, moved the body, roughly stuffed it into a suitcase, and then threw it into the van.
"Xiao Wang, you and he go and deal with this suitcase," Director Wu said, his voice hoarse as if it were rusted. "The dean is coming this morning to inspect the preparations for the inspection."
Xiao Wang nodded numbly.
The van stopped once again in front of the heavy iron gate.
The horn blaring impatiently urged the door to open, each blast higher and shorter than the last.
"Fuck you!" The instructor driving the car slammed his fist on the steering wheel, his eyes bloodshot and practically bursting. "Is the gatekeeper dead or did he just run away?!"
"Are you deaf?! Get over here and open the door!"
Finally, all four people in the car opened the doors and rushed into the guardhouse.
The security guard was woken up by being kicked.
His head was throbbing so badly it felt like it was going to split open. He focused his vision and saw it was one of the instructors or teaching assistants from the academy. He scrambled to his feet, pointing frantically at the door, "Thief! A thief broke in and knocked me unconscious!!!"
He was met with another punch.
The gatekeeper's mind went blank for a moment, and he barely managed to steady himself.
He spat out the blood in his mouth, and a belated surge of anger welled up inside him. "Did you eat shit?! Why did you hit me?!"
The fluctuating emotions of the group throughout the night finally found an outlet with the gatekeeper's retort.
The security guard, outnumbered by three opponents, eventually succumbed to exhaustion and was kicked into a corner and beaten.
"Damn it," someone spat, followed by another kick, "Useless piece of trash, why didn't you yell for help if there was a thief?"
"Can't you hold him off?!"
"Still barking at me like a dog... I was scared by that guy surnamed Li all night, and now you, a mere gatekeeper, are riding on my head and cursing me?!"
Xiao Wang didn't join them; he squatted in the guardhouse, his gaze vacant, smoking one cigarette after another.
It seems like this can help me relax a bit.
After a long while, he turned around and said timidly, "Stop hitting it, or we won't have time to deal with the things in the car."
The guards in the gatehouse then stopped cursing.
Xiao Wang glanced past the group at the guardhouse.
The gatekeeper was huddled in the corner, his fate unknown. Blood and muddy water brought into the house by the men were mixed on the floor, making it filthy and disgusting.
"How can he open the door for us like this?" Xiao Wang stood up, looked at the gatekeeper who was huddled in the corner like a dead pig, and asked, holding a cigarette in his hand.
"You're not dead," the last person to come out turned back and kicked him. "Stop fucking playing dead, get up and get to work!!!"
The man huddled in the corner was kicked over.
The bloody hole that had sunken into his head was clearly visible to them.
Xiao Wang's lips moved, and he trembled as he raised his hand to take a drag of his cigarette.
Following the direction the man had retreated, he saw the blood-stained corner of the table.
He probably bumped his head on the table by accident.
"...Dead?" The man's voice finally subsided, no longer filled with rage.
"Who's so clueless?" He stood up instantly, shifting the blame. "Don't they know that table corners and such can easily cause accidental injuries?"
The remaining two men who had started the fight denied it and were about to roll up their sleeves and fight the other man again.
"Alright," Xiao Wang said, taking the cigarette out of his mouth. "It wasn't you guys who did it; it was that guy surnamed Li who killed him."
He stared blankly at the gatekeeper whose pupils had already dilated, his timid voice unusually assertive, as if he had finally found his home turf.
“We brothers came to rescue him too late,” Xiao Wang said, a numb smile twisting his lips as he sang a cigarette. “It was just bad luck for the gatekeeper; he got killed by a murderer last night.”
The group slowly lowered their hands and exchanged glances.
"Put him in the trunk," Xiao Wang said, seemingly adopting a bit of Director Wu's demeanor. "I'll explain to Director Wu when we get back."
The group huddled together in the guardhouse, and after a long while, they suddenly realized, "Yes, yes, Assistant Instructor Wang is right."
"Assistant Wang is really quick-witted!"
"That's why Director Wu has always been willing to mentor Teaching Assistant Wang; he's so young yet has such a promising future..."
The van, carrying an extra piece of luggage, quickly drove off.
The rain was getting lighter, but the dark clouds remained over the mountain, and it was unclear when they would dissipate.
