Chapter 146 Feeling Stuck

The three of them descended Shiling Mountain, helped the mute girl onto her horse, and galloped quickly towards Granny Ye's house.

When the three arrived at Granny Ye's house, the mute girl learned that her husband had been brutally murdered by bandits and had died. She then embraced the old woman and wept bitterly.

The two cried for a while before the old woman wiped away her tears and made the mute girl and Mu Jin and Nangong Min kowtow to express their gratitude.

“My two benefactors, you risked so much danger to save my daughter-in-law. I will repay you even if I have to be your slave in my next life.”

Mu Jin said, "No need to be polite, but it may not be safe for the two of you to stay here any longer. Once the bandits on the mountain discover that their people have been killed and your daughter-in-law is missing, they will definitely come here to seek revenge."

The old woman and the mute girl were taken aback when they heard Mu Jin say this. Then they realized what was going on and looked at Mu Jin and Nangong Min in panic, asking what to do.

Mu Jin frowned as she looked at the old woman and the mute girl. In this chaotic world, where could they find a place to live?

Mu Jin said slowly, "If you want to escape, we can only take you to the next town at most. We can't help you any further."

The old woman quickly said, "Kind people, you have already helped my daughter and me so much. It would be no loss if I, an old woman, died alone. But my poor daughter-in-law is still so young. She cannot die. If you can help us leave this place, we will be extremely grateful. But we are just causing you trouble again."

"It's alright, I'm just giving you a ride for part of the journey. The rest of the way, you two will have to rely on yourselves."

Since the old woman had already decided to leave, there was no time to lose. The two helped the old woman and the mute girl pack a few clothes and then left Liangcheng that very night, heading towards the next town.

The night was as dark as ink. Mu Jin and Nangong Min dared not stop along the way, for fear of unforeseen circumstances. Finally, at dawn, they arrived at their next town, Nanyue City.

The four rode into Nanyue City. There was nothing unusual within the city, and all four were exhausted from their night's journey. Mu Jin decided to find a place to rest before making further plans.

A moment later they found an ordinary inn. Nangong Min paid some silver and asked for three rooms.

The old woman and the mute girl shared one room, while Nangong Min and Mu Jin each had their own room.

After settling the elderly woman and her child into the guest room, Mu Jin checked the woman's leg injury and found that the wound had swelled up a bit due to the bumpy ride of riding a horse all night.

An ordinary person would probably be complaining endlessly, but the old woman actually gritted her teeth and didn't shout for them to stop, which Mu Jin admired.

Mu Jin helped the old woman change her dressing, gave her anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving pills, and then left the mother and daughter's room.

Mu Jin returned to her room and found Nangong Min waiting for her. Bathwater and food had been prepared for her in the room.

When Nangong Min saw Mu Jin return to her room, he quickly stood up and spoke to her.

"You must be tired. Come and have your meal."

Mu Jin smiled and asked, "Did you send it to that mother and daughter as well?"

Nangong Min nodded: "I just asked the waiter to prepare it, and it should have been delivered to their room by now, so you don't need to worry."

Mu Jin smiled and said, "What could I possibly worry about when you're handling things? Have you had your meal?"

Mu Jin's words were unintentional, but for some reason, they made Nangong Min feel a tightness in his chest.

Ever since Mu Jin learned that Zhao Dazui was a bandit, and Mu Jin lowered herself to deal with Zhao Dazui in order to find out the whereabouts of the mute girl, Nangong Min felt a tightness in his chest, a suffocating feeling.

Nangong Min thought this to himself, but didn't show it on his face. He shook his head with Mu Jin and said, "I'll wait for you to come together."

Mu Jin felt a warmth in her heart and walked to the table to sit down. The two sat facing each other, eating and chatting casually.

"After you finish eating, take a hot bath and rest well. Then we'll leave some money for Granny Ye and leave Nanyue City," Nangong Min said to Mu Jin.

What Nangong Min said was also what Mu Jin was thinking; they had been delayed in Liangcheng for too long this time.

Mu Jin smiled slightly at Nangong Min, "Okay! Let's eat quickly, then go back to our rooms to rest. We'll leave before the city gates close."

Nangong Min looked up at Mu Jin, who looked exhausted, and felt very guilty. After all, it was his momentary soft-heartedness that caused their trip to be delayed and brought unnecessary trouble and danger to Mu Jin.

Nangong Min suddenly lost his appetite. He put down his chopsticks and squeezed Mu Jin's hand.

"Are you blaming me this time? If I hadn't been soft-hearted, you wouldn't have suffered along with me."

This wasn't the first time Nangong Min had asked Mu Jin this question.

Mu Jin knew that Nangong Min was blaming himself again. She had always known that Nangong Min was a kind and good-hearted person.

Even if it were someone else, he would probably feel guilty if they were implicated because of him. Not to mention that he was the one Nangong Min loved.

Mu Jin put down her chopsticks, turned around and covered Nangong Min's hand with her other hand, and laughed.

"If I don't like it, I won't compromise. Please don't blame yourself for this, okay? It makes me feel bad too."

Hearing Mu Jin say this, Nangong Min felt guilty, but Mu Jin's words still made him feel much better.

Nangong Min forced a smile and said to Mu Jin, "Okay!"

After the two finished their meal, Nangong Min returned to his guest room, and Mu Jin quickly took a shower before climbing into bed and falling asleep.

When Mu Jin woke up again, she looked out the window and saw that it was getting late.

She quickly got up and went out of the guest room, where she found Nangong Min helping the mute girl up outside her door.
