Chapter 113 Auditing Classes

Wen Ruan blushed deeply, feeling quite embarrassed.

Song Yan was also somewhat embarrassed, but he remained calm and tried to take Wen Ruan's hand to comfort her...

But Wen Ruan thought he was going to do something else, so she quickly pulled her hand away: "What are you doing!"

She was utterly mortified. Neither of them were usually like this; how did things suddenly turn out like this...?

After they both calmed down, Song Yan took Wen Ruan back to her dormitory and made an appointment to have dinner with her at school the next day and to pick her up on Friday night, the day after tomorrow when she had a day off.

Song Yan had been away on a business trip for more than a month and finally rushed back ahead of schedule. His boss was understanding and gave him two days off, allowing him to rest for several days over the weekend.

......

Friday afternoon arrived quickly. After finishing her last class, Wen Ruan rushed back to her dormitory, packed all the things she needed to take home, and after seeing the time she had agreed to meet Song Yan, she carried her small bag and started to go downstairs.

As soon as she stepped out of the dormitory, she saw Song Yan standing there, having been waiting for her for quite some time...

Along the way, Wen Ruan discussed with Song Yan what to do on the weekend. She felt that Song Yan had lost a lot of weight in the month or so that she should cook him some good food to help him recover.

Instead of going straight home, the two went to the nearest supply and marketing cooperative to the courtyard. Since Wen Ruan went to university, they had been eating in the cafeteria and only occasionally cooked at home on weekends. Song Yan didn't use many of the various receipts issued by his workplace, so he had accumulated a lot, which Wen Ruan planned to use up all at once this time.

Fortunately, when Song Yan came to pick up Wen Ruan, he didn't take the bus but rode a bicycle. They could tie their things to the handlebars, making things much easier for them. However, Wen Ruan still felt unsatisfied, as if something was missing.

So they decided to go to the nearest vegetable market. It used to be a black market, but recently, after the restrictions were relaxed, many people from the countryside would come to the city to sell some of the vegetables they grew themselves to supplement their household income. They were very fresh, and Wen Ruan had seen them before when she passed by.

Looking at the various spoils hanging in the car, Song Yan didn't think it was too much. He still looked at Wen Ruan with a gentle expression, knowing that she cared about him and wanted to help him recover. He felt very at ease.

He never objects to Wen Ruan's requests about where to go or what to buy; he just wants to be her "bag-carrying machine" without any worries...

When they got home, Song Yan went to the kitchen on his own initiative, and Wen Ruan quickly tried to pull him out.

"You should go and rest. You must not have eaten well while traveling. I'll cook you a meal to help you recover..."

“It’s alright, let’s work together, it’ll be faster. I’ll prepare the ingredients for you, all you have to do is cook. It’s been a long time since I’ve had your cooking, I really miss it…” Song Yan replied, then straightened his sleeves and turned to go into the kitchen.

Soon, Song Yan had prepared all the dishes. After asking Song Yan's opinion, Wen Ruan decided to have dinner with the two of them. They planned to make three dishes and a soup: stir-fried pork with chili peppers, sweet and sour pork ribs, and stir-fried spinach. Finally, they would make a pork bone soup.

Wen Ruan originally wanted to make braised pork ribs, but Song Yan took the initiative to suggest making sweet and sour pork ribs instead, since Wen Ruan liked sweet and sour flavors...

Wen Ruan worked quickly, and soon the kitchen was filled with the aroma of food. The stir-fried pork with chili peppers was glistening with oil, emitting a hot and spicy fragrance that was very appetizing. The pork, with skin and meat attached, was stir-fried to perfection.

Needless to say, sweet and sour pork ribs are Wen Ruan's specialty. They are sweet and sour, and the meat is stewed until it is very tender. It falls off the bone with a gentle lift.

The two of them ate heartily. They had long been tired of eating in the cafeteria every day, but whenever they had a holiday or time, they were alone and were too lazy to cook, thinking that they could just eat something to get by. Finally, today, they were able to eat a proper home-cooked meal again.

To complement the sumptuous meal, Song Yan even brought out a bottle of red wine. It was a gift for Song's father, who had never liked the taste. Usually, Song's mother would drink it at home, but after a medical check-up revealed that she had stomach problems, all the wine in the house was moved to the courtyard house.

The two chatted as they ate. Wen Ruan kept telling Song Yan about her experiences at school, including the grievances of senior students from the international relations department. Then, thinking about the translator selection for the exchange meeting on Monday, she became nervous and expressed her anxiety...

Song Yan listened attentively, echoing each point and occasionally expressing his own thoughts. He offered Wen Ruan advice and gentle encouragement, and only then did Song Yan feel truly relaxed.

As night deepened, the two felt they had endless things to talk about. Wen Ruan was also a little surprised because, since Song Yan returned these past few days, he had come to the school every day to have lunch and dinner with her due to his vacation, and even went to the classroom to accompany her to class.

Now everyone in the country, including classmates and teachers, knows that Wen Ruan is married and that her husband is also a handsome man who was a student at Tsinghua University.

Yesterday afternoon, Song Yan accompanied her to her World Economics and Politics class. When Professor Zhang, who was teaching the class, saw an unfamiliar face suddenly appear below, he specifically called on Song Yan to answer the question.

This drew good-natured laughter from the students below, leaving Professor Zhang on the stage bewildered.

When Song Yan was called upon, Wen Ruan was extremely nervous. Just as she was about to open her mouth to explain, Song Yan gave the answer very fluently, which amazed all the students in the classroom, who exclaimed in admiration.

Professor Zhang was very satisfied with Song Yan's answer and praised him. However, he was also a little puzzled. He had taught this class several times, but he didn't seem to remember this young man at all, which was really not right...

Later, he asked Song Yan to introduce himself and learned that Song Yan was a former student of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Tsinghua University, who was just accompanying his wife to class...

After Song Yan sat down, Wen Ruan was full of admiration and asked him how he knew the answer. Professor Zhang had assigned the question last week, saying that it would be checked in this class. Before class, Wen Ruan was very nervous and kept talking about it and looking at the page of notes repeatedly.

“You glanced at it while you were reciting it and memorized it…” Song Yan said calmly.

And so he successfully earned Wen Ruan's envious, jealous, and resentful expression...

Wen Ruan had never known that Song Yan had a photographic memory. No wonder, as Song's mother said, he never seemed to study much, but he always managed to come back with the highest score.

Wen Ruan began to suspect that he was the one who had transmigrated, possessing such a cheat-like ability. The thought filled her with envy, and she quickly lowered her head to continue reading her notes, afraid of being called on by Professor Zhang...
