While undergoing a heavenly tribulation, Jian Ning was struck dead by a sudden bolt of lightning amplified a thousandfold.
In her final moments, a fragment of her soul fled with her celestial...
Jian Ning carried the box back and just saw Xiao Lingfeng open the door and come out.
She was also holding a steaming plate in her hand.
"My mom made some glutinous rice cakes and brought them to you."
“Thank you,” Jian Ning said, holding up the box in her hand and gesturing for him to place the plate on it.
"My brother's family built a kang (heated brick bed) today, and they still have a lot of bricks left. Uncle Li was just saying he wanted to ask if your family wanted to build one too?"
Smelling the delicious aroma from the plate, Jian Ning quickly found something to talk to him about.
I tried my best not to look at his chest. This guy has such a great physique. I don't know how he got it. Looking at those solid pectoral muscles, I really wanted to go up and pinch them.
"Okay, it's getting late today. I'll go ask Uncle Li for advice on how to build a kang (heated brick bed) tomorrow during the day. I've never done this before." Xiao Lingfeng didn't stand on ceremony.
Actually, he had seen Jian Anping moving bricks and mixing cement in the corridor during the day, and wondered what the family was up to. It seemed they were preparing for the upcoming extreme cold weather.
Although the underfloor heating in his house has been installed and he can heat it himself, it still requires electricity. Last time, Jian Ning brought back so much coal.
That stove is perfect for heating in winter, and it can also be used for cooking—it's a win-win situation. How come he didn't think of that? His mind isn't as meticulous as a woman's.
"Okay, we'll talk about it tomorrow. Please thank Aunt Wang for me. I'll bring this plate back to you tomorrow." Jian Ning carried the box and quickly went back into the house.
She'd never tried this glutinous rice cake before. It looked so white and tender, sprinkled with brown sugar; it must taste delicious. She couldn't wait to go back inside and try it.
The outer skin was crispy and fragrant, while the inside was soft and chewy, making it very delicious. She ate three or four pieces in one go, and then put the rest in a different box and placed them in her jade pendant space.
He then took out the jade bracelet with spiritual energy from the box, sat down, and began cultivating. The indoor temperature was only around 31 or 32 degrees Celsius, which was perfectly acceptable.
Absorbing spiritual energy is the most enjoyable part. You can clearly feel your power gradually increasing.
With a little more effort, reaching the Foundation Establishment stage sooner should allow me to communicate with the Immortal Abode.
The chances of surviving the apocalypse will be much greater then, and she doesn't want to die again at such a young age, having finally obtained this body.
The next day, after breakfast, Xiao Lingfeng took the initiative to invite Uncle Li to help him set up the kang (a heated brick bed). He also brought a large plate of glutinous rice cakes and a big bowl of soybean sprouts that he had grown himself.
It looks like Aunt Wang made it all. It's true what they say, having parents around is a blessing. At least Jian Ning wouldn't know how to do these things.
Since she wasn't needed for setting up the kang (heated brick bed), Jian Ning played with Tian Tian in the corridor.
"Let me show you a magic trick. Look, I have two chocolates in my hand. I can make them disappear instantly. Do you believe me?"
"I don't believe you, Sister Ning. My grandma said magic tricks are all lies; they're just fast-paced. You hid it somewhere else." Tian Tian blinked her big eyes and shook her head.
"That's because those magicians aren't skilled enough. I'm different. Look. Keep your eyes peeled and don't blink." Jian Ning said, holding out her hand for Tian Tian to see. With a thought, the two chocolates vanished instantly.
"Wow! Sister, you're so amazing! Where did the chocolate go?" Tian Tian stared wide-eyed in surprise, covering her mouth with disbelief.
"Isn't it in your pocket?"
"Really? Sister, are you a fairy? You're even more amazing than Sun Wukong!" Tian Tian took out a chocolate from her pocket, her eyes full of admiration.
"I'm not Sun Wukong. If I had his abilities, I wouldn't be staying here." Before Jian Ning could finish speaking, she saw Tian Tian staring wide-eyed out the window.
Why is that building leaning?
Jian Ning looked back and saw that the building across the street was slowly tilting, the angle increasing, and in less than two minutes, it crashed into the floodwaters with a loud bang. The resulting waves slammed directly against her windowpane.
"Tian Tian, go back inside and don't come out." Jian Ning said, quickly walking to the window. There were many families in that building, and with the building collapsing in such a short time, there was no way they could escape.
However, she couldn't bear to watch a living person disappear before her eyes, so without hesitation, she went back into the house, took out an inflatable boat and a life jacket, opened the window, and jumped out.
"My sister jumped off a building! Uncle, come quick!"
Unexpectedly, Tian Tian did not go home as instructed, but instead lay at the door watching. When she saw Jian Ning jump out of the window, she cried out loudly.
"What happened? Who jumped off the building?" Xiao Lingfeng, his hands covered in mud and dust, rushed out of the house upon hearing the cries.
"Sister Ning, that building collapsed, and she jumped off." Tian Tian's voice was full of fear.
"Impossible, why would she do something like that?" Jian Anping also ran out of the house and ran to the window one after the other with Xiao Lingfeng. When he saw the slender figure on the speedboat below, he breathed a sigh of relief.
So she went down to rescue someone. I knew this girl wouldn't jump; she has a great attitude.
"Let's go down and help too. I have a kayak in my room." Jian Anping didn't even bother helping to set up the kang (heated brick bed) and went straight back to get the kayak.
Xiao Lingfeng went back into the house and told the old man, then carried a kayak and followed Jian Anping downstairs.
In just a short while, Jian Ning had rescued five or six people, most of whom were young and middle-aged.
There was only one woman in her forties. All of these people could swim, and they jumped out of the windows before the building collapsed, which is why they weren't buried underwater.
"Please save my daughter! She's still in the house!" The middle-aged woman grabbed Jian Ning's arm and cried uncontrollably as soon as she boarded the boat.
"Let go of me and sit still. Otherwise, I'll throw you overboard." She grabbed Jian Ning's arm with tremendous force. Jian Ning felt like she couldn't even pilot the speedboat anymore.
"There are still people over there, hurry up and go." The shirtless young man pointed to the water and clearly saw two people in the distance holding a large basin, bobbing in the water with only their heads above the surface. They probably couldn't swim either.
Jian Ning swung his arm, sending the woman staggering. They quickly arrived at the large basin in the speedboat.
Everyone worked together to rescue the person from the water.
They appeared to be a mother and daughter. The young woman had been supporting her mother with her hands, trying her best to keep her from sinking. Now that they were rescued, she quickly expressed her gratitude.
"Sit still and don't move. I'll take you to the rooftop terrace over there first." Jian Ning didn't want them to go to Jinmao Mansion. It was already good enough that she had rescued them. She didn't want to be a savior and take care of these people.
Without waiting for their consent, she drove the speedboat over. The boat was already overloaded, with a high risk of capsizing. She came to rescue people, but she didn't expect to get herself caught in the crossfire.
