Chapter 7 Doubt and Gratitude

After the meeting, Fan Shengmei looked at the documents delivered by Meng Yanchen's assistant, her doubts growing stronger. She knew that if it weren't for Meng Yanchen's intervention, she would have been doomed. The rain gradually subsided, and Fan Shengmei made up her mind. She packed her things, left the company, and headed towards Meng Yanchen's company. She was determined to ask him face-to-face why he had helped her so promptly.

Fan Shengmei stood in front of Meng Yanchen's company building, looking up at the towering skyscraper, which exuded a cold and majestic aura under the afterglow of the setting sun. The glass curtain wall reflected an orange-red light, making her squint slightly. She took a deep breath and stepped through the revolving door.

The reception area was spacious and bright, with a gleaming marble floor that reflected the magnificent crystal chandelier on the ceiling, refracting a dazzling array of colors. A subtle scent of high-end perfume mingled with the fragrance of flowers, while soothing and elegant classical music flowed softly through the space. Unique and expensive artworks were displayed around the room, ranging from abstract sculptures to vibrant oil paintings, each piece showcasing the company's exceptional status and luxury.

Fan Shengmei walked to the front desk and said softly, "Hello, I'm looking for Meng Yanchen. My name is Fan Shengmei." The receptionist had a professional smile on her face, but her eyes revealed a hint of scrutiny: "Mr. Meng is in a meeting. You can wait over there for a moment." As she spoke, she pointed to the rest area next to her.

Fan Shengmei walked to the rest area and sat down on the soft leather sofa. Everything around her felt both unfamiliar and novel. She watched the employees coming and going, each one hurrying along, their faces showing focus and confidence. They held documents in their hands, either talking in hushed tones or quickly reporting on their work on their phones. Fan Shengmei noticed that the employees here, in both their attire and their demeanor, exuded a professional and elite aura.

She couldn't help but think of her own small company, where the office environment was cramped and chaotic, and colleagues were constantly scheming and passing the buck. Here, however, everything seemed so orderly and efficient. Meng Yanchen, controlling everything in such an environment—what was his world really like? Fan Shengmei's curiosity about Meng Yanchen grew even stronger.

Time ticked by as they waited, and Fan Shengmei grew increasingly restless. She glanced at the clock on the wall, then looked towards the conference room. Finally, the conference room door opened, and a group of people escorted Meng Yanchen out. Meng Yanchen wore a well-tailored black suit, his white shirt collar slightly open, revealing his delicate collarbone. He stood tall and straight, a confident and composed smile on his face, as he conversed with those around him.

Upon seeing Fan Shengmei, Meng Yanchen was slightly taken aback. He then exclaimed a few words to the people around him before walking towards her. "Why are you here?" Meng Yanchen's voice was deep and magnetic.

Fan Shengmei stood up, looked directly into Meng Yanchen's eyes, her gaze filled with doubt and gratitude: "Meng Yanchen, I want to know, why did you help me? And so promptly at that time."

Meng Yanchen looked at Fan Shengmei, a faint smile playing on his lips: "This is part of our deal, isn't it? I said I would help you solve your workplace problems."

Fan Shengmei frowned, clearly dissatisfied with the answer: "Is it just because of the deal? But..." She hesitated, feeling that things weren't that simple.

Meng Yanchen, with his hands in his pockets, looked at Fan Shengmei with gentle eyes: "Otherwise what? What other reason do you think there is?"

Fan Shengmei was momentarily speechless. She truly had no evidence to prove that Meng Yanchen had any other motives. But her intuition told her that Meng Yanchen's help to her seemed to be based on more than just a transaction. "But how did you know I was in trouble at the company, and how were you able to send over the supporting documents in time?"

Meng Yanchen chuckled softly, a hint of cunning flashing in his eyes: "Don't worry about that, I have my own channels. You just need to know that since I promised to help you, I will definitely do it."

Fan Shengmei bit her lip, her doubts still unresolved. But she also understood that she probably wouldn't get any more answers from Meng Yanchen for the time being. "Okay, anyway, thank you," Fan Shengmei said sincerely.

Meng Yanchen nodded: "You're welcome. I hope you can resolve your workplace issues as soon as possible. Our transaction is still ongoing."

By the time Fan Shengmei left Meng Yanchen's company, it was completely dark. The city's neon lights flickered, and her figure appeared somewhat small amidst the bustling streets. She glanced back at the brightly lit building, her mind filled with conflicting thoughts. Had Meng Yanchen truly only helped Fan Shengmei because of a deal? Had his feelings for her begun to change?
