Chapter 73 The Second Day of the Lunar New Year: Returning Home

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Mu Yi'an woke up a little late because she had gone to bed too late the night before.

Last night, the two of them felt a little down when they thought about their biological parents.

Mu Yi'an got dressed and came out of the inner room. Pushing open the door, a cool breeze blew in, which was quite comfortable.

Go check the kitchen. What should we have for breakfast? Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year, and we're going to visit relatives and friends later. Let's make something simple.

Tomorrow is the second day of the Lunar New Year, the day when married daughters return to their parents' home. The New Year's gifts have already been prepared, and there's nothing else to do.

They had already given all the gifts they were supposed to give before the New Year and had received quite a few return gifts, especially from Madam Wei and Manager He. The return gifts were much more valuable than the ones they had given out, so they had gotten a good deal.

While these trivial matters occupied her mind, Mu Yi'an's hands didn't stop; she had already kneaded the dough and planned to make hot noodle soup later. There were soaked dried shrimp at home and fresh bok choy in the yard; a pot of bok choy and shrimp noodles, with a few poached eggs, should taste quite good.

"Second Sister-in-law, Happy New Year!"

"Jiang Qi, Happy New Year!"

Mu Yi'an looked at Jiang Qi as she pushed the door open and entered. In private, she was still used to calling her by her name and not as if she were her sister-in-law.

"Second sister-in-law, what are you making this morning?"

"Bok choy and shrimp noodles, I want some noodle soup."

"Now that you mention it, I'd like to have a drink too. I'm going to go pick some bok choy in the yard."

"Okay, just a small bowl will do, not too many."

Mu Yi'an prepared the soaked shrimp, and then added noodles after the children woke up.

After the whole family enjoys a hot bowl of noodle soup and eats the fragrant noodles, it feels like every pore on your body has been opened up, and you feel completely comfortable.

"Eat, eat..."

Chuyue grabbed a noodle with her hand, stuffed it into her mouth, and ate it with great relish.

Mu Yi'an remembered her married colleague from her past life saying that children should be trained to eat by themselves, and that she shouldn't be afraid of getting their clothes dirty. Even if they couldn't use a spoon, they could use their hands to eat, which would help develop their finger dexterity.

Shao Yun can now use chopsticks skillfully; this child has exceptional athletic ability and is very agile.

Shao Ming has excellent table manners; he doesn't drop food, smack his lips, put chopsticks in his mouth, or rummage through the dishes.

After dinner, Mu Yi'an changed the children into clean clothes. Their new clothes from yesterday had gotten dirty, so she washed them and said they could wear them again when they went to their maternal grandparents' house tomorrow.

Jiang Shuyun took the two older children, while Mu Yi'an carried the younger one, and they went together to the Jiang family's old house to pay New Year's respects.

When Mu Yi'an and the others arrived, there were already quite a few people in the courtyard, all of them younger members of the clan, who had come to wish Jiang's father a Happy New Year.

Jiang Shuyun and the others went inside to wish their parents a Happy New Year, and the children received red envelopes from their grandparents. Next came the exchange of red envelopes. Jiang's sister-in-law gave red envelopes to the children from the other two families, and Mu Yi'an and Li Qiuniang did the same.

In the end, only Li Qiu's family lost out, as they only have one child, Shao Kun. Mu Yi'an's family and Jiang's sister-in-law's family have the same number of children, and next year Jiang's sister-in-law's family will have one more.

It seems that Li Qiuniang needs to catch up quickly.

After paying New Year's respects to Jiang's parents, Mu Yi'an carried Chu Yue and Jiang Qi home. The two little ones wanted to follow Jiang Shuyun to visit other families, Shao Kun was taken along by Shu Wen, and Li Qiu Niang joined Mu Yi'an and the others to join in the fun, a rare treat as she didn't have to look after the children.

"Second sister-in-law, did you see the look on your eldest sister-in-law's face? She looks like she's gotten a great deal. No way, I must try my best to get pregnant again this year. I can't let her be too happy."

As soon as she entered the door, Li Qiuniang started talking to Mu Yi'an about Sister-in-law Jiang.

"Whoever wants to have more children can have them. I'm not planning on having any more. Three children are enough. It's okay, you can have as many as you want. I'll make sure to prepare plenty of red envelopes."

"I can't have too many children, maybe two more at most. If I have too many, I'm afraid I won't be able to raise them all."

As Li Qiuniang spoke, she began to laugh at herself, completely bewildered by Jiang Dasao's exasperation.

Jiang Qi looked at her second sister-in-law and third brother's wife. The two sisters-in-law had such a good relationship. She and her eldest sister-in-law from the Fan family never spoke so well to each other. Every time they opened their mouths, their words were full of hidden meanings, a mix of sarcasm and attacks.

They didn't go to the old house for dinner that night, but Jiang Shuwen and his family of three stayed at Mu Yi'an's place for a meal.

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, early in the morning, Mu Yi'an and her family of five dressed neatly and prepared to go back to Mu Yi'an's parents' home.

Jiang Qi is also going back to the Jiang family's old house today. No matter what, she is a daughter of the Jiang family and should return to her parents' home.

The eldest and second daughters-in-law of the Mu family also returned to their parents' home with their husbands and children. This was at the behest of their mother, as they all had daughters and had been looking forward to this day.

Therefore, when Mu Yi'an and the others arrived, only Mu's father, mother, and Mu Ziyi were at home.

"Happy New Year, Mom and Dad!"

"Grandfather and Grandmother, Happy New Year!"

"good luck!"

Shao Yun followed her brother and said some auspicious words.

"Come in quickly, come in quickly! Shao Ming and Shao Yun have both grown taller, and Chu Yue has grown quite a bit too."

Mu's mother was happy to see her daughter, and even happier to see her grandchildren.

Father Mu took Jiang Shuyun to talk, and Mu Ziyi followed, as he had some questions to ask his brother-in-law.

"Come on, Shaoming, take your little brother to eat something delicious."

Mu's mother laid out all the food that Wang Ma had made and asked Shao Ming to take Shao Yun to eat.

"Come on, let's have a chat, mother and daughter."

Mu Yi'an picked up the restless Chu Yue and carried her away. The little girl had sharp eyes; when she saw her brothers eating, she reached out to grab them.

Mu Yi'an took a fruit and put it in Chu Yue's hand, letting her gnaw on it slowly. She already had eight teeth and could chew on things.

With food, Jiang Chuyue became well-behaved, sitting quietly on her grandmother's bed, wrestling with the fruit in her hand.
