Chapter 44 A Family of Four

The next morning, Tian Yu woke up with a terrible headache and a burning stomach. She thought to herself that she would never drink again; it was too unpleasant. Tang Yuan brought her breakfast, but Tian Yu had no appetite and didn't want to eat anything. She drank some water but vomited it all up. She covered herself with the blanket and continued to lie down. Tang Yuan and Xiao Ju were worried about Tian Yu and stayed by her bedside, refusing to leave. Tian Yu then said to Tang Yuan, "Tang Yuan, Mother is getting married."

"Is it with Father or Uncle Chen?"

"Who does Tangyuan want her mother to be with?"

"Of course it's Daddy. Uncle Chen is also very good, but Tangyuan wants to be with Mommy and Daddy."

"So, who does Xiaoju think Mother should be with?"

"I don't know, Mother will just be with whoever she likes."

Tian Yu reached out and patted their heads, then continued to ask Tangyuan, "If Mommy wants to be with Uncle Chen, will Tangyuan be unhappy?"

"Yes, but if Mother wants, Tangyuan will accept it. As long as Mother is happy."

“You are all good children. Even if your mother is with Uncle Chen, this is still your home, and I will still be your mother. No one can change that, understand?”

"We understand," the two children answered together.

"What about Father?"

"Your father has his own life. Your mother is no longer suitable to live with your father. Tangyuan may not understand now, but you will when you grow up."

"But Father will be sad."

"No, Mother has already explained to Father that we have agreed to live separately. Of course, if Tangyuan wants to stay with Father, Mother will not be angry."

"Tangyuan is not going anywhere, Tangyuan wants to stay with her mother."

"Okay, Mother wants to be with Tangyuan too, and with Xiaoju, the three of us will be together forever."

"Okay!" the two children said in unison.

Tian Yu hugged them tightly, not wanting to discuss the matter any further, and said to them, "Tomorrow, Mother plans to take you to the city."

"What are you going to do in the city?" Tangyuan asked.

"Mother has some errands to run, and while she's at it, she'll take you all for a good look around the county town. We're always in a rush, so this time the three of us will go together."

"Okay," Tangyuan said with a forced smile, still feeling a little uncomfortable, while Xiaoju nodded happily.

Tian Yu thought it was good that she had given Tangyuan a heads-up beforehand, so even though he was a little unhappy now, it was still acceptable.

After that, Tangyuan was taken by Zhao Moyan to read and write. Tianyu saw that Zhao Moyan did not want to talk, so she did not provoke him and obediently stayed on the bed to rest, with Xiaoju by her side.

A short while later, Li Yong brought over a bowl of herbal soup, saying it was a hangover remedy and would make Tian Yu feel better. Tian Yu was feeling quite unwell, so she drank it all without refusing. Li Yong maintained an angry expression throughout and refused to speak to Tian Yu.

Seeing his expression, Tian Yu sighed and said, "Are you still feeling indignant for your older brother? Then why prepare a hangover soup? Just leave and you won't have to see me again."

"Do you think I wanted to do this? If it weren't for my brother's orders, I wouldn't bother with you."

"Thank you. Please thank the Marquis for me too. If there's nothing else, you can leave now. I need to rest."

"You, hey, sister-in-law, don't you like my brother at all?"

"Like him? Who wouldn't like your older brother? You've said it yourself, he's such a good man, and you like him, so why don't you marry him?"

“I’m a man, how could I marry my older brother? If I were a woman, I would definitely marry my older brother.”

"So you can't be with your older brother forever because of your gender, but I also have problems that I feel I can't overcome, and I can't be with him. Do you understand?"

"No, you're wrong. My feelings for my elder brother are genuine admiration and respect, not romantic love. It's different from yours."

"Then how do you know I'm not? I only admire your older brother; I have no romantic feelings for him."

"No, you're confusing me. So, is it because you don't have feelings for my older brother that you don't want to be with him?"

What do you think?

"That shouldn't be the case!"

“There’s nothing wrong with that. If you think we can still be friends, then I’ll still be your friend. You’re welcome to come here anytime. But if you don’t want to have anything to do with me anymore because of this, I’ll accept that and I’ll never bother General Li again.”

"Wait, let me think about it some more, I'm a bit confused right now."

As Li Yong spoke, he picked up his bowl and walked out of Tian Yu's room. At the door, Tian Yu heard him call out "Big Brother," and then mutter a few words in a low voice, which were difficult to hear. After that, Li Yong rode away. Tian Yu thought that there must be something important happening at the military camp, otherwise Li Yong wouldn't have left without eating lunch.

Feeling much better after drinking the hangover soup, Tian Yu got up to take a walk. Stepping out of her room, she realized it was almost noon. Remembering there were still a few people at home to eat, she washed up and went to the kitchen to see what to have for lunch. Most of the dishes she had prepared yesterday were gone, leaving only some braised pork offal and pork rib soup. Tian Yu thought about having noodles for lunch and asked Xiao Ju, who had been following her around. Xiao Ju agreed, so Tian Yu started preparing the dough and noodles, using the leftover pork rib soup and braised pork offal. The small green vegetables she had planted outside in the yard had already sprouted, though some were still small. Tian Yu picked the larger ones and added them to the noodles. After setting the table and serving the food, Tian Yu asked Xiao Ju to call Tangyuan and the others to come and eat.

Xiaoju led Tangyuan into the kitchen. Tangyuan said, "Daddy said he doesn't want to eat and wants to be alone."

"It's alright, you all sit down and eat first. I'll take it to your father's room," Tian Yu comforted Tangyuan, who seemed a little unhappy.
