Chapter 44 A Family of Four

After settling them in, Tian Yu found a tray, filled it with a bowl of noodles and a small portion of braised pork, and took it to Tang Yuan's study.

Tian Yu knocked on the door first, and after waiting for a while without any response, she said, "Zhao Moyan, I've brought you your food. I'm going in now."

After saying that, she pushed open the door and went in. Zhao Moyan was still sitting alone at his desk, but this time he was writing. Tian Yu walked over, squatted down and put his things away, and looked at Zhao Moyan in a conciliatory way, saying, "Eat something first, it's not too late to write later."

"Put it down, I'll eat it later." Zhao Moyan was still writing, without even looking up.

"Okay, then you must remember to eat." Tian Yu instructed, then got up and leaned closer to see what Zhao Moyan was writing. She saw that he was writing some simple poems that she had written for Tangyuan. Although she didn't recognize some of the characters, Tian Yu could still tell that they were poems she had written.

Tian Yu smiled and said, "This is what I wrote for Tangyuan. It's just some simple poems. You don't need to take it so seriously. Why don't we eat first?"

"Simple? Your poems are all very good, but they don't quite match your handwriting. I'll rewrite them so that Tangyuan can read them more comfortably."

"Hehehe, okay, okay, thank you for your trouble." Tian Yu didn't want to provoke him now, so she could only force a smile and say perfunctorily.

"Who taught you to write? How can it be so ugly?"

"No one taught me, so I learned on my own."

Zhao Moyan glanced at Tian Yu, then shook his head and continued writing. Tian Yu wondered if he had memorized all her poems? His handwriting was indeed much better than hers, flowing smoothly and majestically. It was clear he had trained diligently since childhood.

“The poem you memorized last night isn’t here,” Zhao Moyan said, looking up at Tian Yu as he finished writing the last stroke.

"Huh? That poem... I didn't memorize it last night?"

"Don't you remember drinking last night?"

"I remember, I remember going to the kitchen to drink, and then I went back to my room to sleep, didn't I?"

Zhao Moyan looked at Tian Yu for a while, as if to confirm that she really didn't remember, and then said, "Have you not seen the Yellow River's waters come from the sky, rushing to the sea never to return?"

"Huh? What does that mean? This is a poem by Li Bai."

"You memorized this last night when you were drunk, but you only memorized this one sentence."

"I didn't do anything else but memorize this poem?" Tian Yu asked with some concern.

Seeing Tian Yu's anxious expression, Zhao Moyan nodded.

Seeing Zhao Moyan nod, Tian Yu breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if a great weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She smiled and said to Zhao Moyan, "This poem is very long. Why don't you eat first, and I'll tell you after you've finished eating?"

"I'm not hungry."

"Alright then, I'm going to eat first. Tangyuan is still waiting for me. If you want some, come and eat with us."

As Tian Yu spoke, she picked up the tray on the table and carried the noodles away. When she was almost at the door, she turned back and said, "Noodles won't taste good if they're left out for too long. I can't recite poetry if I don't eat!"

Zhao Moyan watched Tian Yu leave, feeling both annoyed and amused. He finally shook his head, got up, and went to the kitchen to eat.
