After lunch, Tian Yu said she had to go out for a bit and wouldn't be reciting poetry for the time being. Zhao Moyan reluctantly took Tangyuan to play nearby. Xiao Ju followed Tian Yu to check on how the plants on the mountain were growing. Most had sprouted, some even had green leaves, but they still lacked water. Tian Yu squatted down and picked up some soil. It hadn't rained recently, and if it didn't rain soon, she might have to fetch water to irrigate the fields. Looking up at the sky, the weather was gloomy, and she felt it was going to rain, but it hadn't. The dark clouds on the distant mountains were gathering thicker and thicker. Tian Yu prayed for a heavy rain.
On the way back, they met Grandma Gouzi and chatted for a while. Gouzi had recently made a lot of money from snails, and his family's life was better. Grandma Gouzi sympathized with Tianyu, but felt that being with Chen Chong might not be a bad thing, which comforted Tianyu a lot. They met other women in the village; some smiled at Tianyu, while others whispered something behind her back. Tianyu smiled in response. Just before leaving the village, they met Sister Ju, who had helped them. She held Tianyu's hand and talked for a long time, basically saying things like, "Sister, you've had a hard life. Try to be positive, don't do anything rash, and live a good life." Tianyu could only nod and agree reluctantly. Fortunately, the weather changed and it looked like it was going to rain, so Tianyu and Sister Ju escaped. They hurried home, but before they even reached their doorstep, the rain started.
Tian Yu, pulling Xiao Ju along, ran all the way to avoid getting wet. They entered the living room and saw Zhao Jincheng and Zhao Jinxiu there. After glancing at Tangyuan and Zhao Moyan, Zhao Jincheng stood up and greeted Tian Yu, but this time he didn't call her "sister-in-law" but simply "Tian Yu." Zhao Jinxiu also shyly bowed to Tian Yu and called her "sister." Tian Yu thought she was hallucinating, but seeing her expression, she understood. Smiling, she said, "Please sit down, no need to be so polite. I have something to attend to, so I'll go back to my room first." Without looking at Zhao Moyan, she called Tangyuan and the other two and went to Tian Yu's room.
Seeing that Tian Yu was ignoring him and was somewhat angry, Zhao Moyan, who was in the living room, smiled and said, "Brother Jincheng, is there anything else?"
"Oh, nothing much, I just wanted to come and see you, Lord Marquis. My sister has been nagging me to see Brother Mo Yan, so I brought her along to catch up."
Zhao Jinxiu said coquettishly, "Second brother, it was clearly you who wanted to come, why are you blaming me?"
"Didn't you also insist on coming along?"
Second Brother
“Jinxiu has grown up. It’s been a long time since we last met. Since that’s the case, let’s get together properly another day when we have time. I have some official business to attend to today, so I can’t keep you two any longer.”
"Oh, is that so? We were being presumptuous. That's all for today. We'll visit again another day when we have time." Zhao Jincheng quickly stood up and said this, then pulled Zhao Jinxiu away.
Zhao Jinxiu looked reluctant to leave, but still bowed and said, "I'm sorry to have bothered you, Brother Moyan. I'll come to visit you another day."
"Alright, take care, you two."
"Please wait, my lord."
Although it was raining outside, Zhao Moyan still saw the two off. The brother and sister had brought umbrellas when they came. After watching the two leave the courtyard, Zhao Moyan turned around and went to find Tian Yu and the others.
Tian Yu was sitting at her desk in the room, folding paper airplanes with her two children while explaining the process. Zhao Moyan opened the door, and the paper airplane Tian Yu threw landed right in front of him before slowly falling to his feet. Zhao Moyan bent down, picked up the paper airplane, looked at it, and walked over to Tian Yu and the children, asking, "What is this?"
"An airplane!" Tangyuan answered loudly.
"An airplane? What's an airplane?"
"Mother said it's a flying machine, doesn't Father know?"
"I don't know? I've never heard of it either." After saying that, he looked at Tian Yu, waiting for her explanation.
"That? That was just my imagination, I didn't mean it." Tian Yu quickly explained, afraid that Zhao Moyan would suspect her.
"Tangyuan, take Xiaoju to the living room to play for a while. Your mother and I have something to talk about." Zhao Moyan sent Tangyuan and Xiaoju away, then closed the door and sat down next to Tianyu, staring at her intently. Tianyu felt a little guilty under his gaze and, seeing the wooden box by the door, tried to turn away. But Zhao Moyan grabbed her again, and their eyes met, their bodies pressed together. They were so close that Tianyu could feel each other's heartbeats. A little frightened, Tianyu asked, "What...what are you going to do?"
"Tell me, who exactly are you?" Zhao Moyan said, moving even closer, his eyes seeming to see right through Tian Yu.
"What, what did you say? I, I don't understand. Let go of me, you're hurting me," Tian Yu stammered, feeling uncomfortable under his gaze.
"I'll ask you one more time, who exactly are you?" Zhao Moyan continued to approach, their faces almost touching.
"Who else could I be? Of course I'm Tangyuan's mother, your ex-wife!" Tian Yu closed her eyes, pushed Zhao Moyan away, got up, and shouted.
“I’ve looked at those poems you wrote carefully these past few days, but I’ve never seen them in that book, and they weren’t written by you. Where did you see them?” Zhao Moyan said, sitting down on the cushion.
There are so many books in the world, have you read them all?
"No, but I'm quite well-read, so why haven't I read a single one of these poems?"
"Then you just didn't see it, you don't know enough. Why do you doubt me? If I weren't Tangyuan's mother, what would I be doing here? Waiting for you? Who would be so bored as to wait for someone in this remote, impoverished place for six years? Do you think I'm Wang Baochuan? You're not Xue Pinggui! Alright, alright! Do you still want to know that poem?" Tian Yu said somewhat angrily, but didn't want to explain further and changed the subject.
"If you want to, please!" Zhao Moyan also felt that it was indeed unnecessary. He still couldn't understand Tian Yu in front of him, but he didn't bother to persist.
"Before I finish reciting, there's one more thing I need to say."
"explain!"
“I can’t accept those things you gave me. Take them away,” Tian Yu said, pointing to the three large boxes in the room.
