What? I've Transmigrated, Yet I Still Have to Work?

Family, let me tell you something: I transmigrated, but it feels like I didn't fully! Except for this 21st-century brain, I brought nothing else over!

Other people transmigrate and either...

Chapter 18 First day at work: Get paid first.

The next day.

Just as dawn broke, a sharp, metallic sound rang out from the training ground into a dormitory.

"What's going on? What's going on? The orcs are attacking?"

The bearded man sprang up from the bed, looking around nervously.

"Stop yelling, Sam. This is Tiger Rock Outpost. There are no orcs here."

A burly human patted the bearded man on the shoulder, then quickly donned his plate armor.

"You...you...you're the soldier I drank with yesterday?"

The bearded man slapped his head hard; the hangover was still quite strong, and his head was still aching.

"That's me! Not only did I pay for your drinks, but I also had to carry you back. I'm really getting ripped off!"

The plate-armored warrior wore a bitter expression, but his hands didn't stop moving.

"You carried me back? What about Joey?"

Suddenly, the bearded man seemed to remember something and asked urgently.

"Oh, your own brother?"

The armored warrior paused, a look of doubt on his face, and then said, "He went out. He got up a long time ago, but I don't know where he went!"

He finally slipped his boots on, urged the bearded man on, and ran off.

"Why are you in such a hurry? It's not like we're going out for drinks!"

The bearded man muttered something and prepared to go back to sleep.

"Hey bearded guy, get up! We're gathering at the training ground!"

Just as the bearded man lay down, Joey's voice came over.

He looked in the direction of the sound and saw Joey, also dressed in heavy armor, standing at the dormitory entrance urging him on.

"Okay, okay!"

Joey's words always made the bearded man obey. Before he could figure out the situation of gathering at the training ground and Joey's outfit, he jumped off the bed in a hurry and frantically searched for clothes.

Wear this!

Joey pulled a bundle from behind his back and tossed it to the bearded man.

The bearded man caught it easily; it was quite heavy.

He opened it and found a set of armor inside. Although it was a bit old, it was indeed heavy armor that only warriors could wear.

"Hurry up and put it on, don't just stand there. Today is the first time we're all assembled, don't give anyone a reason to do something wrong!"

Joey urged him again.

The bearded man excitedly put on his "new" clothes, even though he felt he didn't have the braids Joey had described, at most just two braided mustaches on his lips.

He followed behind Joey, running quickly toward the training ground. This heavy armor was the shortest Joey could find, but it still looked a bit too big on the bearded man, like a son wearing his father's clothes.

"David, what's the purpose of gathering so early?"

Joey and the bearded man squeezed next to the soldier from yesterday, standing up straight, clearly fresh recruits.

"Your name is David?"

The bearded man's question was raised again at an inopportune time.

"So you spent all that money on drinks and you still didn't remember my name?"

The soldier named David was clearly unhappy. He had been trying to appear enthusiastic that morning, not wanting to seem petty, but the bearded man had really made him break down.

"Don't mind it, don't mind it. My brother has this problem; he blacks out easily when he drinks too much. See, I remember it perfectly, don't I? David's David, David's Wei, what a nice name!"

Joey awkwardly tried to smooth things over for the bearded man, but fortunately, the bearded man's drinking capacity had indeed impressed everyone yesterday, so David actually felt a little proud.

David rolled his eyes at the bearded man and turned to look at Joey.

"Captain Pouf must be taking his anger out on us!"

"I heard that he failed to persuade Lady Catherine to withdraw from Tiger Rock Mountain, and was instead ordered by Lady Catherine to hold out here!"

"The messenger pigeon has flown away. Ashforge will send reinforcements to wipe out these ungrateful orcs!"

David was clearly unhappy when he said the first sentence, but he became more and more excited as he spoke, and was already describing the scene of him killing the orcs.

"Our Lady Catherine is truly wise!"

Joey outwardly echoed David's words with excitement, but inwardly he was seething with frustration.

"That spendthrift woman, pretending to know everything, I think she just wants revenge for her injured shoulder!"

"Several hundred people are thinking of holding out here. Before the reinforcements from Grayforge arrive, this place will be completely overrun by the orcs!"

"I originally planned to change jobs, get a higher-level position, and make some extra money, but now that she's done this, the danger level of this job has been instantly increased to the maximum!"

Having figured out the pros and cons, Joey decisively decided to give up the job offer and quickly packed up his bucket and ran away.

He tugged at the bearded man's plate armor, signaling him to run away with him.

Although the bearded man hadn't quite figured it out yet, he still had complete faith in Joey's decision.

However, just as the two moved, a shout came from above.

"You two in the back, stand still and don't move! Captain Pouf has arrived!"

Reminded by these words, everyone in the training ground looked at Joey and the bearded man who were about to leave.

Joey sensed something was wrong, so he stopped trying to run away and pulled the bearded man back into the group.

But their unusual behavior had already been noticed by Puff, who had rushed over.

He placed his left hand on the hilt of his sword and slowly walked towards the back of the group.

"You can't see me, you can't see me, you can't see me..."

Joey silently repeated countless times in his mind, hoping that Puff wouldn't discover him. It was just like when you weren't paying attention in class but the teacher called on you to answer a question. However, in such situations, the chances of being called on are usually very high.
