What? I've Transmigrated, Yet I Still Have to Work?

Family, let me tell you something: I transmigrated, but it feels like I didn't fully! Except for this 21st-century brain, I brought nothing else over!

Other people transmigrate and either...

Chapter 22 Choice is more important than effort

What happened up ahead?

As soon as Joey appeared in front of the small manor, ten fully armed female soldiers rushed out to meet her.

Five archers and five heavily armored warriors.

The leader stared at Joey and asked anxiously.

"The orcs are attacking. How is Lady Catherine?"

Joey needs to learn to stick together and support each other. He doesn't believe he can break through the encirclement by himself alone. This time, the orcs aren't just sending an advance team.

"Lady Catherine is resting inside, but the commotion outside is too great, so she sent us over to inquire!"

The lead female archer glanced back at the manor and spoke truthfully.

"My name is Joey, may I ask your name?"

Joey moved aside, gesturing for the female archer to come over as well.

“Eileen Mayer, the captain of Lady Catherine’s guard!”

Eileen, what a lovely name!

The archer captain named Eileen noticed that Joey wanted to speak to her alone, so she followed him over.

Another captain. Joey thought that one captain, Puff, was enough for this outpost, but he didn't expect that there was another captain hidden in this manor. It seems that Catherine's background is indeed quite impressive.

"Hello, Captain Eileen, I just came from the gate. This time, the orcs have brought an entire army. We only have a few hundred people, which is no match for them!"

"The gate is narrow, making it inconvenient for the enemy to set up their formation. If the gate falls, they will be trapped like turtles in a jar once they get in!"

"Captain Pouf sent me here to protect Lady Catherine. I must tell you frankly, we need to prepare to leave immediately!"

Joey spoke these words after careful consideration. The dense rain of swords at the gate indicated that the orcs were numerous and well-equipped, and that a mere few hundred men could not hold them off.

Puff had advised that leaving immediately and retreating to Ashfury was a wise decision, but Catherine's insistence on staying and entrusting the lives of these hundreds of people to Ashfury's reinforcements was rather willful.

"I understand what you're saying, but Lady Catherine's temper is beyond my ability to persuade!"

Eileen looked helpless; it seemed she had already explained the pros and cons to Catherine.

"Could you take me to see Lady Catherine? After all, if Lady Catherine were to be put in danger, the responsibility would be one that neither you nor I could bear!"

While saying this, Joey was actually cursing this willful little fairy in her heart. What kind of time is this to be so willful and reckless? Don't think that the whole world has to revolve around her. If she doesn't want to live, don't drag others down with her.

"All right!"

Although Eileen seemed a little hesitant, she gritted her teeth and agreed to Joey's request.

She led the way, and Joey hurriedly followed, but as she passed the bearded man, she whispered a few words in his ear, and the bearded man ran off in another direction.

"Knock knock knock—"

Eileen gently knocked on Catherine's door.

"Lady Catherine, Joey wishes to see you!"

Although Eileen was anxious, she still spoke in a normal tone from outside the door.

"It's that so-and-so?"

Catherine's voice is still pleasant, even though she has a bad temper.

"Lady Catherine, it is indeed me!"

Joey didn't have that much patience; with things so urgent, how could he possibly remain calm?

"Come in!"

Catherine didn't seem to mind and said softly.

Bang--

Joey pushed the door open, which startled Catherine.

At this moment, Catherine showed no sense of impending doom. Instead, she was wearing a gorgeous long dress, holding a cup of hot tea in her right hand, and leisurely enjoying her tea.

"What are you doing? Is the sky falling?"

Joey's recklessness angered Catherine, who put down her teacup and spoke with great displeasure.

"I don't know if the sky will collapse, but this place is about to collapse!"

Joey rushed to Catherine's side and gave her a quick and simple description of the current situation at the outpost.

"You're so scared by something this small?"

Catherine smiled slightly. It has to be said that she looks really good when she smiles, but her brain really isn't very sharp.

"The carrier pigeons must have arrived in Ashfury City long ago. Father will send people over, and then it will be the end of the orcs!"

Joey had to admit that people do look quite handsome when they are confident, just like Lady Catherine in front of him, who remained calm and composed throughout.

But overconfidence is foolish, and Lady Catherine in front of me certainly fits that description.

The orcs have already reached our doorstep, and reinforcements haven't arrived yet. Staying here is just waiting to die, isn't it?

Joey glanced in the direction where Eileen was standing, but she just shrugged, seemingly used to this kind of situation.

"Excuse me!"

Joey suddenly rushed towards Catherine and delivered a karate chop to her neck. Before she could react, her body went limp, and Joey hoisted her onto his shoulder.

Without the obstruction of heavy armor, Catherine's soft body came into close contact with Joey, almost causing Joey to lose his senses again.

What do you want to do?

When Eileen saw Joey attack Catherine, she rushed over and drew a short knife from her waist, holding it to Joey's neck.

Do you have a better idea?

Joey offered no resistance, simply asking the question casually.

Eileen slowly sheathed her dagger, sighed, and said nothing more.

When Joey carried Catherine to the others, they were somewhat surprised, but seeing that Eileen didn't say anything, they remained silent as well.
