Eight years ago, Chen Zhennan transmigrated into a chaotic era, intending to live a simple life, but unexpectedly found a fallen empress.
In this turbulent world, the two became each other...
The aftershocks of the explosion echoed through Cuiming Mountain. Chen Zhennan turned to look at Chu Feng and the other two.
"Get ready, I'll make the move first, then you can make the move, understand?"
Chu Feng and the others nodded and took out grenades from the box and held them in their hands.
On the mountainside, Hou Jing, his face covered in dust, looked around. The soldiers were all ashen-faced and still in shock.
The sudden explosion, like hellfire, devoured their courage.
Hou Jing shook his arm, which had just fallen to the ground, and, enduring the pain, ordered his men to line up and prepare for battle.
"Line up! Prepare for battle!"
After shouting, Hou Jing turned to look at the woods. Those soldiers who had entered the woods were probably in grave danger.
Hou Jing led his army to continue advancing towards the mountaintop. The surrounding silence made his heart race, and the quieter it was, the more uneasy he felt.
Finally, just as they were about to reach the summit, Hou Jing hurriedly ordered the army to disperse to avoid becoming the target of a concentrated enemy attack.
Following Hou Jing's order, the army began to disperse, while Chen Zhennan, in the trenches, stared intently at the densely packed figures ahead, who were getting closer and closer.
Chu Feng and the other two were also infected by the tense atmosphere, their hearts pounding so hard they felt like they were about to jump out of their throats.
Just then, Chen Zhennan's eyes flashed like lightning. Finally, when the enemy was less than fifty meters away from the trench, he decisively pulled the pin on the grenade and whispered, "Ready, throw!"
"yes!"
Chu Feng and the other two responded in unison, and four grenades streaked across the night sky like meteors, flying into the crowd ahead.
"boom!"
With the deafening explosion, Hou Jing's army was thrown into chaos once again, and the soldiers scattered in terror, like a flock of startled birds.
"Fire!"
Without hesitation, Chen Zhennan picked up his submachine gun, pulled the trigger, and bullets rained down, instantly taking down more than ten people.
Chu Feng and his two companions quickly followed, picking up submachine guns and firing wildly. Their firepower was as fierce as raging waves crashing against the shore; the firepower of the four men was even more intense than that of the three hundred members of the Special Forces.
The gunshots were deafening, and the air was thick with the smell of gunpowder. Chen Zhennan couldn't see the bullet impact points, but he could see figures falling one by one.
"Quickly, lie down!" Hou Jing's voice was hoarse and urgent, as if it were squeezed out from the depths of his throat.
The instant he gave the order, a bullet whistled through the air and struck his arm.
Hou Jing felt a sharp pain, and his face showed shock and pain, as if he were being tightly gripped by an invisible hand.
Blood instantly streamed down his arm, staining his clothes crimson.
"Don't panic, everyone lie down!"
Hou Jing shouted again, but his orders seemed weak and powerless on the battlefield. Soldiers fell one by one, like autumn leaves swept away by the wind, instantly losing their vitality.
The submachine gun's firepower was like a storm, the dense bullets like merciless death, frantically tearing through the air and striking the tree trunks with dull echoes.
Hou Jing's heart tightened. Faced with such overwhelming firepower, he felt powerless. Anger and despair intertwined, almost overwhelming him.
Finally, after Chen Zhennan and his three men had been firing wildly for three minutes, the gunfire stopped abruptly.
Chen Zhennan lay prone on the trench, his eyes fixed intently ahead, with a series of grenades placed in front of him.
"If the enemy continues to attack, throw all these grenades out; if you can't throw them all, leave them in the trench."
Chu Feng and the other two nodded in agreement, then opened the box and, imitating Chen Zhennan, placed the grenades in front of them.
Hou Jing clutched his injured arm, the pain causing cold sweat to bead on his forehead.
He hid behind a tree, his gaze piercing through the night, trying to make out the distant trenches, but his vision was blurred, the night like an insurmountable barrier.
"What's the casualty situation?" he asked the soldier beside him in a low voice, his tone trembling slightly.
The soldier did a quick count and said in a deep voice, "General, about one hundred men have been killed in action, and more than two hundred are wounded."
Hou Jing felt as if he had been struck by a heavy hammer. These soldiers were his brothers from Lingnan, who had fought side by side and shared life and death with him. Now they had died while attacking the commander-in-chief. It was truly tragic.
An indescribable pain welled up in his heart, as if an invisible hand was tearing his soul apart.
Hou Jing gritted his teeth, looked around, and realized that they had reached the top of the mountain and were now at this point, with no reason to retreat.
Hou Jing quickly bandaged the wound, but blood still seeped through the bandage, casting shadows on his face.
He slowly stood up and said through gritted teeth, "Everyone spread out and attack the trenches from both sides. We must take out the people inside!"
At Hou Jing's command, the army suddenly began to disperse, and more and more soldiers gathered on the mountaintop, starting to flank the trenches from both sides.
In the trench, Chen Zhennan stared at the throng of people opposite him, feeling a sense of helplessness.
Those were brothers from Lingnan, who had fought side by side and shared life and death, but now they were turning against each other.
His heart was filled with complex emotions, and he was lost in deep memories.
Just then, Chu Feng's voice suddenly rang out: "Commander, the enemy has spread out, it looks like they're trying to encircle us!"
This reminder was like a resounding slap in the face, jolting Chen Zhennan out of his reverie.
"Quick! Get ready!"
Chen Zhennan reacted quickly, pulled the fuse, and began frantically hurling grenades. The explosions were deafening, like thunder, tearing apart the surrounding air. The flying dirt and blood mingled together, creating a bloody scene.
