Yun Zhiyi always thought she was the fake young mistress who had taken another's place. After the real one returned, she held back in every way.
Only after being thrown into the mass grav...
Yun Zhiyi looked up and saw three people in front of the shop.
An old man wearing a coarse cloth short coat, and an old man in his fifties or sixties wearing an embroidered robe and a hat.
A handsome young man stood behind him.
She remembered the former; she had bought groceries there before.
I haven't seen the latter two before, but judging from their demeanor and clothing, they should be the steward and servant of a wealthy family.
The old man stepped forward, glanced at the vegetables on the wooden board, and was quite surprised.
These dishes are indeed exceptionally well-presented.
He picked up a cucumber and broke it in half.
Instantly, the aroma of cucumber filled the air.
The old man was startled and couldn't stop it in time.
Seeing this, Yun Zhi raised an eyebrow and got up to walk over.
"Cucumber, thirty coins. Thank you for your patronage."
The old man was somewhat dissatisfied with her attitude, and looked up at her scrutinizingly with sharp eyes.
"Where did you get these vegetables? Are they safe?"
Yun Zhiyi said lazily, "It's an exclusive secret, please don't pry."
The old man frowned again, his expression growing increasingly dissatisfied.
However, considering something, he didn't get angry, but instead gave orders by pointing to the four kinds of vegetables on the stall.
"Cook some of these four dishes for me to try. If they're really good, I'll take over your business from now on."
Looking at his arrogant demeanor, Yun Zhiyi curled her fingers and lightly tapped the purchase limit panel next to her.
His tone remained lazy and infuriating.
"The tasting event has ended. There is a purchase limit per person. The cucumbers are ruined and must be purchased. If you do not intend to buy anything else, please pay now."
The old man stared at the purchase restriction panel, his brow furrowed so deeply it could almost trap a mosquito.
He frowned and said, "How can you do business like this? I won't talk to you anymore. Let someone in your family who can make the decisions come here."
Yun Zhiyi pulled out a crisp peach from somewhere, took a bite, and said, "I'm in charge of this shop."
"You!" The old man was so angry that he glared at her and puffed out his beard.
But in the end, reason prevailed. He stuffed the broken cucumber into the old man's arms and said to the servant.
"One of everything!"
After saying that, he turned and stormed off.
The waiter quickly asked about the prices of each item, counted out the corresponding amount, including the broken cucumber, and paid the bill.
They quickly caught up with the old man, carrying vegetables.
Yun Zhiyi didn't take this little incident to heart. She put away the money and turned to continue eating.
Mr. Chen, who was waiting outside for the braised noodles to be delivered, watched the whole process and couldn't help but offer a reminder.
“That man looks like he’s either rich or powerful. Shopkeeper Yun, aren’t you afraid he’ll cause you trouble by offending him like this?”
Yun Zhiyi smiled helplessly, "There are so many rich and noble people in this city. If I had to shrink back from them all, this shop would be useless."
Seeing her confident and fearless demeanor, Boss Chen became even more certain that she must have some kind of powerful background.
Even with a background, there are differences in scale.
He felt that the shop owner was still too young and arrogant. If she really offended someone with a stronger background, she would probably suffer.
He shook his head and said no more.
Yun Zhiyi appreciated his kindness, saying, "Thank you for reminding me, Shopkeeper Chen. Here's a peach for you to try."
Mr. Chen hurriedly caught the peach that was tossed to him.
After spending half a month together, I got to know her personality a bit, so I didn't refuse and just shook my head helplessly.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "Too much rigidity leads to breakage; sometimes it's best to avoid it if possible."
Yun Zhiyi simply nodded, thanked her again, and went back to continue eating her noodles.
Unfortunately, after this interruption, the noodles had cooled down and tasted much worse.
After finishing her meal, she took out a rocking chair, intending to lie down, read a book, and then take a nap.
Just as she put down the book and closed her eyes, she heard a shout.
Then I heard Mr. Chen and Mr. Xu talking.
"Why did you come today?"
"Yes, there are still five days left."
Yun Zhiyi got up and looked outside as well.
Then you can see several burly, fierce-looking men patrolling the stalls and shops in the distance.
Not only did they reach out and take the money, but they also casually took things from the stalls or shops and pocketed them.
The people in the shop didn't dare say anything and had to politely see the person off.
At that moment, one of the men was shouting in front of the fried noodle stall.
The fried noodle stall owner's son had never been here before and didn't know anything about these people.
Seeing that they came over asking for money and even took some fried noodles meant for the customers, he was a little dissatisfied and said something.
Although the noodle stall owner pulled his son behind him in time, it still angered the man.
Fearing they might overturn the stall and beat his son if they got angry, the fried noodle stall owner quickly took out 50 coins and handed them over humbly.
“Brother Wang, my son is new here and doesn’t know any better. Please be magnanimous and don’t take offense. This is our monthly allowance.”
The man with slanted eyes glanced at the copper coin in his hand and grinned.
"This isn't enough. Your business has expanded, so you need to double the amount. Hmm, your noodles are really good. Fry me another twenty servings to take away."
The noodle stall owner's expression changed, and he said in a low voice with a bitter face, "Brother Wang, we're all running the same stall. If it's not feasible, we can pack up the other side now, is that alright?"
The man raised an eyebrow, smiled at him, then his face turned cold, and he said menacingly, "No, hurry up, stop talking nonsense, give me the money and the fried noodles."
Yun Zhiyi squinted and asked the two about the situation.
The two then realized that she was also new and probably didn't know the identities of these people or the rules here.
Mr. Chen then gave her a brief explanation.
After listening, Yun Zhiyi merely frowned.
It was roughly the same as what she had just guessed.
No matter where you are, there will always be black, gray and white.
